I love their relationship because he doesn't try to change her (unlike David). He meets her where she is.

When I was a small child, I always hoped Christy would end up with David (mostly because I thought they looked good together), but now that I'm a woman, I understand the difference and see that Neil was perfect for her. He had the sacrificial love towards her that David never could.

I agree that Neil seemed to love her on a deeper (and probably more sacrificial) level but I did just watch the episode where David goes after her when she was taken hostage and that was after waking up in the river shot in the shoulder weak from bloodloss and barely able to stand. They definitely have a different chemistry but I do think he loved her and was willing to sacrifice for her.

@@married1751the show made him more ardent and added things where he really did stuff for her, but that’s not in the text. In text he was so flimsy in his own identities. And he was actually more prideful and selfish. Ironic since MacNeil is so stubborn.

Christy and Neil, a staple love story in my childhood. I grew up loving this series and come back to it often. Great video! Does anyone remember a Christy and Neil video set to the song In Her Eyes by Josh Groban? I can’t find it on TH-cam anymore.

Yes there was also one to Elliot Yamin's Can't Keep on Loving You From a Distance that I loved. I was so devastated when I couldn't find it anymore. I don't know why all the ship music videos keep getting removed. The "It Is You (I Have Loved)" one is gone too.

This is best fan compilation for c&N ever. Plus song is perfect especially from Neil’s perspective. LOVE all the looks between them. They acted and casted this so perfectly. The actor for Neil somehow perfectly showed the love attraction and hesitancy of character. I’m still so sad they never made another season with this og cast and production team and set. There were so many more beautiful Christy and Neil moments we never got!!! The dance and flirtation at ruby maes wedding the prayer over her when sick-I mean they did this scene at least in remakes but with b sacrilegious Christy and terrible cutter gap locatioon/set, I feel cheated 😭

No matter how many times I watch it, the ending of the original series is always is sooo frustrating! The show had so many more potential story lines to explore! I’ve watched the movies they made afterwards to give “closure” to the story line, but they are ultimately disappointing due to the reasons you mentioned, new Christy actress, location, etc. Wish the powers that be could make a new series/miniseries with the original actors in the original location set in the 1930s-40s or something.

@@christie7201honestly yes AS LONG AS they cast it as well as they did first go aground (except for David-that actor was just so overdone/forced) and they actually keep deep honest Christian themes and conversations. There are better Christian production companies now, Angel studios (not fan of Mormons, but movies better quality and at least they don’t cut all talk of god and prayer etc) but yeah even more accurate redo of book would be fun!! And there’s SOO much wocialmjustice and modern approaches in book anyway, how god and Bible is bigger than religion how love and forgiveness is complicated but powerful how we need to see people past seeing assumptions or stereotypes. It’s sellable to wider audience even with all Christian things!

@@lizziebkennedy7505 If I recall correctly, in the book, Christy's story is being told by Christy's daughter. It's clear that her mother--Christy--married the doctor. I did not watch the TV show, but it seems weird she would marry the preacher, unlike the book. As the book goes along, it's kind of easy to understand why Christy ends up more attracted to the doctor. BTW, the author of _Christy_ , Catherine Marshall, based Christy's story on her own mother's experiences teaching the poor in Appalachia. Both Catherine Marshall and her mother married ministers.

they screwed up in the last few episodes of the lovely series..one in bringing back a dead wife to put a spin on things ( typical script writer crap to drag a series )..two is dragging out her choice between the doc and the Preacher...which ultimately resulted in lower viewership..lower ratings..and the show getting tanked...happens all the time to TV Shows when new script writers join production and are not in tune with the viewers and think they know better....a great series with a garbage ending tat the producers tried to redeem a few yrs later by bringing out a three part movie to tie up all the loose ends...with a aging actors and a too young Christy..resulted in him looking more like her father than her husband...Amen to my rant....

Yep!! They def played up drama as series progressed instead of sticking with what source gave us-which is pretty crazy bc book is VERY dramatic, I mean two beloved characters die!! But show obviously didn’t want to go that dark or loose characters. But yeah second series I was most annoyed with her stupid accent. Like who decided that was necessary?? But also I don’t think decision to cancel had to do with viewership-I believe it was a change in network management/finances and for logistic reasons or ignorance they cut the show. :( and yes tried to make money few years later when they realized how believed it was, but went about it entirely wrong way!! Should have recast everything, or waited till they could get og Christy back.

To be fair the doctor in the book and series *was* supposed to be older than her, being 32 in the book vs Christy's young age of 19, they have a 13 year age gap. That's why their conflicts worked so well- an older man with experience of the world butting heads with a stubborn teenage girl who he constantly underestimates, likely because of her age.
I love the OG Christy but always thought that the actress looked too old to be a 19 year old, she's supposed to be barely older than some of her students, that's a huge self conflict of hers in the book.

Just so you know it isn't lust that Christy feels for Neil. If you watch the series or read the book you will see their connection is deeper than that. As far as being a non-believer, Neil finds God because of Christy in the end.

She doesn't marry him until after he has become a believer. In the tv show their relationship starts before either of them even know he is still married. They think his wife is dead. In the book she is dead and never magically returns. She and their son both die during an epidemic. That's partially why he has turned from God, but he turns back to him when he realizes he loves Christy and can't do anything to save her life. He comes to a point where he realizes that she is in God's hands. It's a good book. The show like most shows takes a few liberties that change the storyline a bit from the book.

You guys really believe what you say? No one sets out to do that, no one aspires to love married people. We don't choose who we love. Lust is part of being human, and until all your priests and pastor get a handle on their hypocrisy, I suggest you criticise them and leave fictional characters and the rest of us in peace. And God works in very mysterious ways. I just wish he'd let more of his so-called Christians in on it.

@@ygoldberg1287 the program needs a wider audience that just those who need their pastor's approval to watch something. It isn't canon law, it's entertainment in a capitalist market.
