    I preferred Neal when I was 20. Now, at 42, I still prefer Neal ❤

    5:48 Mountain man indeed. Those rivers are freezing even in the summer! And the rocks slippery. I can't imagine bathing in one.
    Production built Neil McNeil's cabin right next to the mission house on set but they usually filmed scenes like these in the Great Smokey Mountains National State park. I was blessed many years ago to visit both the Townsend farm where most of the buildings were and the park :)

    3:32 - The _donkey_ was *The PERFECT* symbolic "stand-in" for Neil as Christy practiced her speech! 😄

    Stellar music, stellar casting, stellar storyline. They don't make shows like this anymore, I grew up on this and nothing has come close to such a perfect blend all coming together in one place.

    Actually Christy married the preacher. Based on Catherine Marshall's mother. Named my daughter Christy. My all-time favorite book.

    @harrietcow you basically summed up my thoughts exactly as I watched this a few years ago with my friends they couldn't believe how I like Neil over the preacher and I couldn't understand how they weren't melting at the Scottish hunk before our eyes! ;)

    So cute... she's so inexperienced - she couldn't tell he thought it was a date!
    And what's even more cute, they're both as crazy about each other even after their fight and neither of them will admit it to themselves!

    I love this "pairing." McNeil is such a gruff teddy bear that I can't help but love him. I really dislike the way Daniel treats Christy, but Neil tries to challenge her mind, and I love the fact that Neil went and basically *jumped* into the water to get clean. But nothing can go right for Christy! The second hand embarrassment is strong with this one! :P

    • @ThatClassic70sGirl
      @ThatClassic70sGirl 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +vampblckheartofdeath - Didn't you mean "the way *David* treats Christy"?
      But yeah, maybe Christy should've fixed another meal or two for Neil before asking him about Daniel Scott (a la _The Book of Esther_).

      You mean, David? The preacher? Yeah, he's controlling and wants a woman to hold up his ego by being subservient and obedient. Blerk.

    ok, so I haven't watched the rest of the episode but so far I agree with Dr. McNeil...they all assumed he wanted a helper and now he has to change his life around?? Naa, it's not his fault.

    OP I just want to thank you for posting these! I have despaired of seeing a resolution in at least *fanfiction* of this show, and as one does, sometimes a person has to do it themselves! I appreciate being able to check little things like whether Neil's cabin has curtains at the windows!

    something I find interesting is how many of these actors and actresses have bright blue eyes! Often times it is the color of their eyes that is all I see since they are so bright compared to everything else on the screen.

    Everyone there is prejudice expect the people at the mission, even the Christian ones. I'm not making excuses for Neil's prejudice but just keep in mind he is far from alone. I feel so bad for poor Dan. How he keeps his head is beyond me.

    I just realized Ruby Mae Morrison, ( Emily Schulman ) was the annoying little red headed neighbor kid of the Lawsons on the 80s tv sitcom ," Small Wonder" . The father , Ted Lawson, plays a robotics engineer who creates an android named Vicki.

    I always liked Neil more than the preacher. I always loved how he had such feelings for Cristy but didn't outrightly pursue her like the preacher did. He was subtle and reserved about it. Overall Neil just always seemed more right for Cristy. I was so happy they got married in the end.

      I sometimes wonder how it might've been if Miss Alice and Christy had phoned from Kentucky to inform Neil of the plan; but just left out the fact that Daniel Scott was black. :) *That* would've been interesting; because then Dr. MacNeill would've had no other excuse.

    Which episode shows a burning house in the opening theme i've never seen that episode, this episode is the epitomy of racism what other reason could there be for allowing someone to read the medical book and not practice other than for him to assume that Dan Scott's not educated enough.

      Could you have been thinking of _The Hostage_?

    • @raea3588
      @raea3588 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It wasn't racism. And no one knew better than Dr. McNeil, who came from a poor mountain family, what it was to have people believe you were nothing but uneducated. One must watch the whole series to understand Dr. McNeil's view on Dan Scott who he came to highly respect.
      First of all, he was not happy that Alice brought Dan there and just expected him to train him when he was so busy as it was. And Second, he knew how the mountain people would react to not just a black man but any outsider. Neil was scared of the trouble it could bring. All he had to fall back on as a doctor was the trust he had in his own mountain people while trying to lead them slowly into a world of modern medicine.
      So, yes. Neil was being cowardly and arrogant and selfish. But not racist.

    I guess it's just me but when I see them together I see a father and a daughter not a real relationship between a man and a woman. They don't look like a right fit to me.

    • @ThatClassic70sGirl
      @ThatClassic70sGirl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was not unusual a hundred-plus years ago for the man in the relationship to be significantly older than the woman. Sadly there seemed to be more remarried widowers than widows, in part due to maternal mortality factors in childbirth; plus a man was expected to have an established career, homestead and other property at the time he married.

    • @abigailtrumbo178
      @abigailtrumbo178 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      She's very immature. I don't think it's an age thing, I think it's a stubbornness and self-delusion thing.

    • @bethanyriley5068
      @bethanyriley5068 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can understand that. Back then it was common and normal for a man and woman to get married that far apart back in the day. Probably because the man was more mature and had more life experience and could support that young woman. But nowadays, getting married at that age difference would be weird. But even nowadays if someone got married to someone else 20 years older, I don’t think it would be weird if the woman was 25 and the guy 45. Anything below the age of 25 would definitely be weird nowadays. That’s just my opinion. I certainly wouldn’t get married to someone 20 years older than me.
