I taught guitar for (too) many years man ,and, I have to say this is a Really Good lesson! Retired now but giving my friend and neighbour a few lessons..I will certainly use this,as, we're doing Voodoo Chile at the moment!

I love it when u say we're not gonna sound like Hendrix. We all want to sound like our hero's when we 1st start playing. But over the years. We all get are own tone. Yes they still know what we're playing. But we all end up with our own tone. I think SRV is better then Hendrix. But W/O Hendrix. Would we ever of had SRV? & if we did, would have he sounded the same? I'm guessing yes because he would of still been a great guitar player. But maybe not as great as what we know him as. Tone, Tone, Tone. If someone has great tone it's like a voice. You just know who it is. The 1st time I heard the song Smooth. I knew that was Calos Santana. Same with Velvet Revolver. I knew that was Slash on guitar.

YOu can do either - all depends on what sounds you are going for. In the SRV version he shuts it off for parts of the tune - same with the Hendrix version - but whichever sounds best to you. Great lesson! Learned a lot!
I love it when u say we're not gonna sound like Hendrix. We all want to sound like our hero's when we 1st start playing. But over the years. We all get are own tone. Yes they still know what we're playing. But we all end up with our own tone. I think SRV is better then Hendrix. But W/O Hendrix. Would we ever of had SRV? & if we did, would have he sounded the same? I'm guessing yes because he would of still been a great guitar player. But maybe not as great as what we know him as. Tone, Tone, Tone. If someone has great tone it's like a voice. You just know who it is. The 1st time I heard the song Smooth. I knew that was Calos Santana. Same with Velvet Revolver. I knew that was Slash on guitar.

Once the intro is done, do you shut the wah off and have a high gain fuzz tone or keep the wah on the whole song?
YOu can do either - all depends on what sounds you are going for. In the SRV version he shuts it off for parts of the tune - same with the Hendrix version - but whichever sounds best to you. cool lesson but you got the name of the song wrong,you're playing Voodoo CHILD(slight return) not Voodoo CHILE...two totally different Hendrix songs....you should do a Voodoo Chile lesson in the future.
