He wrote "Marge vs. The Monorail", "New Kid on the Block" [the one where Bart has a crush on the teenaged daughter of a divorced woman and Homer sues a seafood restaurant because he didn't get his fill at the "all-you-can-eat" buffet], and "Homer Goes to College" (he also wrote the "Nightmare Gallery" wraparound scenes for "Treehouse of Horror IV" [the one where Homer sells his soul for a doughnut, a gremlin dismantles the school bus while Bart is on it, and Mr. Burns is Dracula] and wrote the unproduced episode where the mental patient who thought he was Michael Jackson on "Stark Raving Dad" returns, now thinking he's Prince and leads the town into acting sexually liberated). The episode that had the scene of Homer making Mr. Burns cold cereal for breakfast and it explodes for no reason is from season seven and it's called "Homer the Smithers". The writer for that episode is John Swartzwelder.
I always thought they purposely made this bit as satire pointed at Leno’s headlines which at least some were faked but unironically acted like they weren’t, but they couldn’t say it directly.
