Part of the appeal of the massive copyright-shattering cast is how Lazerbot includes characters who are iconic despite having very little personality, then spatter-paints over the blank slates like Jackson Pollock on bath salts. For a really good book explaining the phenomenon of the expressiveness of this art, Ivan Brunetti's 'Cartooning: Philosophy and Practice" is a good read. The basic idea is that crude drawing is more immediate than polished drawing, and closer to "pictoral language." Like how a smiley face communicates a smile with a two lines and two dots.

If I were frozen Walt Disney I would immediately give over my characters to Lazerbot no question asked. This is BY FAR the best depiction of Coyote and the Tunes characters ever. Whynne understand this, lazerbot HONORS these characters rather than try to milk them like failddit does.
the awesome, the power, the gay, the bastard, the guy with no ears, the fire power, the sissy, These were the ingredients chosen to make the perfect little girls.
As a professional artist It took me 30 minutes to get 10 minutes into this video, I am pausing on every panel to admire this awesome, yet ofc stylized and quirky, yet all the same masterful artwork. The comedy is really next level, the timing and the juxtaposition had me rolling and wtfing... and yeah I agree with people, I wish I could get some of the emotive qualities of these characters and the fluid movement and pacing in my own art. The disclaimer in the beginning about outside art was interesting.
If lazerbot was a bad and lazy artist he wouldnt spend so much time and effort drawing hands in different positions and angles, he clearly is an artist at heart
Tails gets trolled art is good art in the same way that ONE's one punch man and mob psycho is good art. It's someone using their minimal art skill to express the emotions and actions a character has to the fullest degree. It's like pictionary where it's obviously not someone's grand masterpiece with detail or "shading" or "perspective", but it does explain and connect with someone what your point or subject is. In this way, the art in Tails gets trolled may not be "good", but it IS "effective".
Lazerbot largely draws like a cartoonist Just because it's ain't your typical overly detailed animu artstyle doesn't make it bad. It just different from what you used to.
“He didn’t have a mouse.” Oh, that sucks. “He didn’t have Internet.” Damn, that really sucks. “He didn’t have a computer.” Damn dude! “He was even homeless for a brief time.” WHOA! WHOA! Jesus, guy!
I think the most interesting thing about TGT is it's audience interaction elements. Lazerbot was keenly aware of people reading his comic during the entire time he was drawing it, and this both improved the comic and made it worse in equal ways. On one hand, the audience reactions were often keenly incorporated into the comic as some really great punchlines and setups, and on the other hand, lazerbot got confused about what people liked about the comic and routinely tried to steer it into directions that he personally thought the audience would have liked more. You can see that really deeply with TGTP, the added shading and darker thematic elements clearly meant to be directed towards the audience's adoration for the dramatic elements of the story. Of course what lazerbot forgot was that the dramatic elements were so beloved because they were well directed, clashed with the E-Rated copyrighted characters, and the story still contained a lot of absurd humor. People also loved the insane anime fight scenes, and now we have an insanely long, supremely over-the-top slugfest between Coyote and Demaro that's taken the better part of a *decade* to get through. It feels like lazerbot being told why people enjoy his comic is inversely affecting it's quality. Maybe there's something to be said about this, that outsider art struggles once people catch note of it. It feels like TGT's earnestness is borne out of the comic's relative isolation, and that earnestness combined with the absurd content ultimately elevates it into something both ironically and unironically enjoyable. But now that people know about the absurdity of the comic, it's trying to ditch those ironically enjoyable elements to become something more serious. I dunno, I think it's fascinating.
@@zenzenulous2243 we only say this fight sucked because we have been waiting YEARS for it to conclude. For people who are reading it NOW that the fight is over it is very enjoyable because it did not take years to reach the conclusion. This is the same shit that happened with the boat in Berserk or the Meruem fight in HXH that took like 3 goddamn years to conclude. People that were there during the CA arc HATED IT because it was very long and the art was terrible... The process SUCKED. But now that the arc was adapted and the art is good again suddenly Chimera Ant arc is one of the best arc in history.
Something you come to understand about TGT over time is that Lazerbot is actually a goddamn genius savant who actually writes and portrays certain things better than a crazy amount of professional creators, despite the wildly unconventional presentation.
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 Unsure how anyone can explain it, but when I did read the comic some of it is stupid, while others is arguably genius in story telling. One example is despite the "bad" art it is somehow able to portray emotions better than "good" art. I am unsure why this is the case, but it just is.
To be fair SMBZ's creator kinda got fucked over with a swift cease/desist to his patreon courtesy of Shiggy and Co. which lead to the remaster slowing down, plus he wasn't having the gayest of ole' times during production to begin with. The remaster was because he wanted to start over after a lengthy hiatus and seeing the Newgrounds flash era come and go and didn't expect the wrench in his plans. I get where Nintendo was coming from, but fuck why is it always the fun and passionate fanworks that get shafted the most.
One of my favorite parts of the comic is when the art becomes genuinely good or completely sells a fight or gore effects, unintentional or not I really dig it, he even had decent choreography it's nuts but he genuinely inspires me to start working on my comic i never started
Lord this comic is amazing. I needa make my own video on it damn. It really is a good comic. Keep uploading btw your content is banger. Giving me a new appreciation for Sonic.
The difference between this and many other deviantart comics is those are all one trick pony so bad it’s good. This comic goes so off the rails, it captivates you with either morbid curiosity or wonder of it’s ability to one-up itself
This is like someone took a hundred tabs of LSD and made an OC Kingdom Hearts comic. I fucking love outsider art like this, you're absolutely right that more people should learn to accept alternative and Avant Garde art which disregards conventions, because trolling or memeing aside, this comic is fucking excellent lmao
I hope you changed in those two years but those "ougghhhh I CANNOT IMAGINE anyone being creative they must take the DRUGS" type of comments are so cringe
I love how tails gets trolled and sonichu are almost the same thing in how they started, a sonic fan makes a webcomic of questionable quality, but tails gets trolled and sonichu are so much more different in that tails gets trolled had humility and an honest feel to it, like a kids first words, that kinda feeling. Whereas sonichu just makes you feel repulsed at the sight of it. Especially after recent events.
"While I would love to demand he continues to bring us free [content]. Theres no point bothering someone who doesnt want to do something." Feels like a callout lol
I remember binging this after my friend gave me a brief summary of Shadow in this series. This webcomic unironically utilizes its oddly well crafted, logistical plot structure to a hilarious degree and handles the idea of "subversion" WAY better than most modern Hollywood cinema.
There's nothing more amazing than reading this comic, liking it ironically, and then liking it unironically after you come to the dawning realization that it's actually a really damn good shonen manga disguised as a deviantart comic. I think it's actually a masterpiece; lazerbot's art is still completely readable despite being conventionally bad. You never feel like the characters are talking too much (unless that's the joke) and you can always tell what's going on in the fight scenes. They're actually choreographed brilliantly.
Dude, you got me into reading TGT and this shit got me wheezing! I reached chapter 8 and I cannot express how much I appreciate *a* : TGT and *b* : you, for making this video. I just really hope my English won't deteriorate too much
I went in reading Tails Got Trolled and expected to give up but I kept reading and then I unironically ended up enjoying it. Really sad about the hiatus after he announced he was getting help to finally finish it
It feels weird to say this when it also applies to the SMBZ creator, who most people would agree really knows what he's doing, but going back to remake old stuff is a really big and common amateur artist trap. The fact of matter is, if you go back to remake old stuff because it doesn't meet your standards anymore... by the time you're caught up, your standards will have increased yet again. You will always be growing as an artist, so things you made in the past will almost never live up to the standards of what you can do now. Moral of the story, to any aspiring artist: make things, and finish them. Even if they're small and bad at first, you gotta keep moving forward.
@@Narutass43 this video also references the comic coming back which happened like, a few months ago, so yeah if there was any doubt Cybershell is actually back this video pretty much confirmed he actually is at least for now.
The greatest success of the comic for me is how funny it is without really trying. Everything from the art, writing, and presentation lends it to being one of the funniest things I've ever read. It's interesting that lazerbot wanted to remaster his work too, since that was something I was going through awhile ago. I wrote a pretty well received Monster Musume fanfiction story, however I wasn't satisfied ever with how I started it off and wanted to go back to the start to try and fix it. Although, maybe fixing it might alienate people from what made the story fun to make in the first place xD
This is my favourite Cybershell video for some reason lol, every so often I find myself returning to this video and rewatching and so fascinated by the absurdity and level of abstract art displayed by Lazerbot. I love how there’s use of copyrighted characters with no fucks given, freaking Sonic and looney tunes in the same universe, original cool but crazy concepts, surprisingly intelligently choreographed action scenes and somehow lore and a story that consistently builds off itself in seemingly impossible to predict ways Thank you Lazerbot and thank you Cybershell for this piece of deliberate and sometimes accidental madness
This guy had a tough life, but I really respect how he managed to say professional and generally makes the comic for fun. He just does it and enjoys it. That's why I enjoy the creator and his comic.
I can understand an artist wanting to restart their magnum opus that they've been working on for years. They feel like they have improved as a story teller and artist and thus they want their whole story to end up being as good as their later chapters. And in some cases an artist can improve a story by restarting, like Super Mario Bros. Z like you mentioned in the video. Its first episode felt much more in line with the future episodes of the series with the match being a fighting match instead of a kart race, and yeah maybe it would be better to just carry on where it left off, but so far at least it looks nice. Another example would be Scottymation's Zelda UO, his art and voice acting skills has truly evolved; that series has been in weird forms of existence for about a decade now, but he is determined to finish that series one day.
I’m so glad he mentioned Mario bros Z. That was literally the FIRST thing I thought of when he mentioned TGT was getting ‘remastered’ from the beginning for no reason
8:52 I think it's because amateur artists (not to knock him down or say it in a condescending) don't worry about those other aspects of art that make it "good art". When you improve your skills and learn about things like lighting and perspective, it's easy to fall into this trap where you're more focused on making it look good or "correct" rather than making whatever's in your head. You get caught up in those facets of art, and that makes you not wanna risk failing or looking bad. Using myself as an example, I can't tell you how many half finished high- or low-angle sketches I made and subsequently scrapped because it didn't look good to me. And I've yet to make comics or write things down because I'm less focused on getting my ideas out there and more so on learning how to write at all so it's at a decent level Amateur artists and people who just doodle for fun often don't worry about that. They just draw it to draw it, and then they show it off. Myself as an example again, I get a lot more done when I'm doodling and dump whatever dumb idea of mine onto the digital canvas without worrying so much about it looking great in that moment
As an artist this was really interesting! I also had a crossover project many years ago so I totally get how he might he started doing it for the fun of it but then take every plot point and line very seriously. I also get why he would update less frequently, want to do a project with original characters or change stuff from early on, because it can be weird to present your work with something you did when you were really young or different. People really change over time, but I guess you need to trust the reader's ability to comprehend that fact. At the end of the day, it was that journey that took you to the current point naturally, so it would be weird to try to suddenly change it. I wish someone was willing to finish my stuff for me, though xD
On the note of the art though, it's really interesting comparing early panels in a long-form work like this to the later ones, plus seeing where the artist KNEW they pulled something off way better than usual and were super proud of it. The work is consistent, which isn't something to scoff at either!
Tails gets trolled actually does good on making the villans look like a threat and making the heroes look powerless to them and they dont make the heroes defeat the villans like 5 seasons in they actually extend the villans story tk where you kinda know whats going on they actually put it to where you could actually care about the characters and what happens to them TGT is very underrated
I’ve never heard of this comic but the artwork looks great if you ask me. It’s not badly drawn, but it just looks so weird somehow. I can’t work out why. It makes it stand out though. I can barely draw, and I’ve found that making things look deliberately shitty is a surprisingly good way of making your stuff stand out. Imagine wasting time on actually drawing well.
Man, I found this comic in like 2012 and I agree it makes you want to introduce new people to it. I honestly believe Lazerbot is a genius, hope everything goes well for him.
The obvious analogy here is that he totally George Lucas-d it, going back to "improve" the originals and even prequel-ing it up. Let us hope he can bring balance to his own life and work.
As a "true" artist (trust me I want to put way more quotations around that "true") I remember early on actually being confused when first posting my art online, as other people I saw as objectively "worse" artists would get far more attention than me, and it really was a blow my ego desperately needed. Sure you can become "good" at art, but at the end of the day, it's up to people to determine why they like any piece of "art" they observe, and sometimes there is just an unknowable nebulous feeling some art outputs regardless of how the "fine arts" might grade it's quality. So, I'm actually pretty happy these days to see something like this get so enjoyed- It kind of has a weird "hylics" kinda atmosphere to it.
Honestly, other than the PCP lecture, I think this is the best video on TGT made yet. Despite other videos that boil down to "TGT funny and epic fightan," it felt like you had something to say. Glad you made this.
Chris Chan: Drowned in trolls that he hinself created so badly that his IRL life was destroyed beyond any possible hope of recovery. TGT: Kills and humiliates trolls, within his comic and IRL. Just one of his panels was jettisoned into Legendary meme status without him knowing, and without us even knowing where it came from. His "shit art" literally broke the entite reality of personifying emotions through drawings WITHOUT even trying, which is something "real", serious artists that spent years and years and years in school for could never hope to accomplish!!!! TGT is *nothing* like Sonichu.
You're such a sordid human for trying to further mock CWC. This guy has been destroyed for years and you still keep mocking him He didn't create his own trolls, they're the ones who decided out of their own free will to harass him.
Tails Gets Trolled really is the Beserk to Sonichu's Redo of Healer
Tails gets trolled art is good art in the same way that ONE's one punch man and mob psycho is good art. It's someone using their minimal art skill to express the emotions and actions a character has to the fullest degree. It's like pictionary where it's obviously not someone's grand masterpiece with detail or "shading" or "perspective", but it does explain and connect with someone what your point or subject is. In this way, the art in Tails gets trolled may not be "good", but it IS "effective".

Yeah tbh, the Coyote vs Demaro fight is one that should have ended a long time back. Yet Demaro continuing to survive? That was lowkey badass as fuck.

Something you come to understand about TGT over time is that Lazerbot is actually a goddamn genius savant who actually writes and portrays certain things better than a crazy amount of professional creators, despite the wildly unconventional presentation.
Like what?
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 Unsure how anyone can explain it, but when I did read the comic some of it is stupid, while others is arguably genius in story telling.

Cheers lad! Delighted you're back.

It's interesting that lazerbot wanted to remaster his work too, since that was something I was going through awhile ago. I wrote a pretty well received Monster Musume fanfiction story, however I wasn't satisfied ever with how I started it off and wanted to go back to the start to try and fix it.
Although, maybe fixing it might alienate people from what made the story fun to make in the first place xD

tails gets trolled is such a great web comic
Me and my friends actually tried dubbing tails gets trolled and we laughed about every other line
“I’m now going to teach you the fine art of patience”
“Aaahhh so gay”
I’m so glad he mentioned Mario bros Z. That was literally the FIRST thing I thought of when he mentioned TGT was getting ‘remastered’ from the beginning for no reason
wow, I must be old because I never heard of this but could recognize a lot of the panels and reaction images that have become memes
And I've yet to make comics or write things down because I'm less focused on getting my ideas out there and more so on learning how to write at all so it's at a decent level
Amateur artists and people who just doodle for fun often don't worry about that. They just draw it to draw it, and then they show it off. Myself as an example again, I get a lot more done when I'm doodling and dump whatever dumb idea of mine onto the digital canvas without worrying so much about it looking great in that moment
I know these daily uploads will stop one day but I’m enjoying it while it lasts 👍
What is great about it is how "pure" it is , un-touched by little else than the artist's creativity.
Man, I found this comic in like 2012 and I agree it makes you want to introduce new people to it. I honestly believe Lazerbot is a genius, hope everything goes well for him.
"Tails Gets Trolled is unironically good"
Dude, same
Scoob and Shag is like a spiritual successor to TGT, it is honestly one of the best things I've ever read.
Tails Gets Trolled is like Koishi Komeiji's Heart-Throbbing Adventure, if you enjoy the former you will probably enjoy the latter also,
