Tons of Brightdrop EV vans being used by FedEx in my area of SoCal.
Any chance you've talked to the drivers asking them how they like them? Here in GA I've seen no rivian edvs or brightdrops.
But my local amazon drivers are starting to use Ford's e transits since the beginning of the year. So far the drivers seem to like them. 🤔
Gotta be less fatiguing to drive than a ICE Pie wagon.
@@4literv6 They are honestly amazing. All the drivers I've spoken to love it, much more than any of the combustion engine trucks they've used. If you've ever driven any type of step van, they tend to be very utilitarian, bare bones, loud, slow, dirty, but the Brightdrop is very much the opposite. It's quiet, powerful, easy to use, and completely modern in what it offers. Literally night and day. It takes a bit of getting used to if you've never driven an EV before, but to say its revolutionary is not hyperbole.
To a fleet operator, even if this is weaker in cost/capabilities vs some of the startups, simply having the confidence that GM is gonna be around in a decade is worth a LOT.
I'm not hugely in to the whole "Van life" thing, but this is probably the first one I've thought I'd like to see do a camper build with. The platform feels well thought out

The horn chirp is what I was taught to do when driving commercial sized vehicles in the military. Anytime the vehicle starts moving in forward or reverse you are taught to honk twice to let everyone in the area know you are about to move.
I still do. It irritates some, but that's what pepper spray is for. Our EV6 has a polite backing bicycle bell. Front motion a turbine sound. Works great.
As somebody who's 6'8" this thing seems like it could be the EV #vanlife dream.
In this I agree! Compare the potential of this to the Winnebago EV. It would be easy to make a 'van life' conversion from this shell. And NO stops for $$$ gas or even pricier engine repairs, where the van is in the shop for a week [while the shop robs you by pretext].

This is actually pretty awesome. Delivery vans are a perfect use case for electric powertrains because it’s slow speed in town driving and typically short haul, so fast charging will be rare. As Kyle would say, this truck is EPIC!
And kit out the inside with camper fitout, add solar on roof, awning on side, and sunshine in NM, AZ, CA for tripping round the country! Brilliant !
I would to convert one of these into a RV. Would be so much fun to tour the country in one.
Was thinking the same and even better for those that park their RV in one spot for a season.
You mean seeing 150 miles of the country a day. These are special built as city runabouts. If you want an RV, hybrid is the way to go.
Thanks for sharing, Kyle! I do think the BrightDrop Zevo 600 goes a bit farther than just the "last mile" aspect of deliveries. Essentially, this has enough range to be a full replacement for most local/regional ICE delivery vehicles. The fact that it has double the range of the Ford Transit and Rivian EDV is notable.
This is not the format of vehicle you would use for longer range stuff. Last mile is the term used for things like residential deliveries as it's the last "mile" of delivery after being moved from one warehouse to the next from place of manufacture.
I work at FedEx express and they just received around 20 of these this week.

I like the purposeful look of this vehicle.
If it had a true 200 mile range, fast charging, and the chargepoint network was in place, that would make one hell of a Class B camper van.
but look ar the yt where the people go camping there are no chargers. and rarely mentioned on ev there internet connected 24/7/365 so they burn powere . one tesla model uses a entire charge in 15 days . plus in 32f 0c the battery heaters go on
Very cool. Glad that you liked it. I worked at the plant in quality getting ready for the launch of this vehicle before I retired. It was the best job I had and best product I worked on in my 33 years at GM. I loved driving it as well.
EVs are really a polarizing thing. Most people either really love them and the other side is people that ferverently hate them. I love EVs, my Model 3 is the best car I've ever had and I plan on keeping for many years to come. I'd like to get a bigger version of it though, the Model Y might have been a better choice but it does the job and I cannot complain. I love seeing new EV vehicles get better and better over time, it's really exciting.
Yeah, best not to debate EV's. It's like politics to the narrow minded and they get worked up. Same people that called SXS Polaris Rzrs golf carts are throwing spitballs at Robbie Gordon for not delivering their SXS on time.. Several S's in our neighborhood that have passed 300 k miles. Only those that supercharge a lot notice a slight range difference. Those level 2 (usually on home solar BTW) these cars are gonna last a long, long time.
Love em or hate em, Evs are going to completely replace ICE sooner or later.
In fact that's one of the reasons they are hated.
I was gonna say people don’t “hate” EV’s. Dislike maybe. Don’t like having the idea of them shoved down their throat. But hate. That’s a bit extreme. Then I saw you own a Tesla. Ahhh there you go. The self entitlement Tesla owners have is mind blowing. Thinking people HATE you because of your car 😂.
Maybe it has a driver side door lock so as to not allow driver exit into traffic and has to exit on pavement side for safety.
Commercial vehicles don’t need to be stylish, they need to be functional
Really interesting to see what’s coming for these “last mile” type vehicles. I can’t wait to see these for trades vehicles as well. I’m thinking plumbers, HVAC technicians, etc. I love that theres competition with Brightdrop, Ford Pro, Rivian, etc.
Actually, the ZEVO 600 does use a big double-stack battery - the same 20-module/170 kWh version as the Hummer EV SUV now rolling off the production line.
Ya that makes sense. Definitely too much range for the single stack.

I am a Ford person. I recently bought my first new Chevrolet. It has far exceeded my expectations. A Bolt and I love it, road-trip it with no issues. I hope for something. The size of Transit connect. I’ll buy it from GM if they are first.

As an ex H G V continental lorry drive ( British) I love your programs!! We need to see much more about Trucks and all commercial vehicles because as you said on the pod cast they are the game changers for our climate . Fleets will crush the car market very quickly once the economic conditions are right which with so many on the market now we are at the tipping point , I feel it will take off big time so more please great content

Thx OoSR team. I enjoyed watching. I too am thinking the Brightdrop Zevo 600 is going to sell out all that can be made. My first thought instead of delivery vehicle, is RV. I think a kit to make it livable would be great. Also, a battery back higher then 100kWh would be needed too. Maybe as an option, there could be a 200 kWh version before handing over to an RV kitting expert.

The bulkhead door and side doors like my old UPS truck. There bodies were freightliner. Nice video Kyle beats my old ups truck. Didn’t have power steering let alone A/C😂
I can't believe that USP and Fedex drivers still don't have A/C in their trucks most of the time. Drivers getting heat stroke in the summer all the time. Having A/C alone will make this a favorite of drivers!
Saw a FedEx on at West Covina CA Mall. First time I have seen one on the street. As a former FedEx driver I would have loved to drive one of these sooooo much. The super hot floors in those diesel trash trucks we drove back then and they still drive now !!!!! Your feet would boil while driving.
Thank you for showing these vans. Very interested in them. Couple of minor comments. Can you please stop saying epic? I know you're working on it. Also, drivers of vans are used to the poor turning radiance. It's really not an issue.
I'm loving the Electric Truck-kuns coming to market. These would be great for "stealth" RV's.

When driving delivery, you never exit via the driver's side. That puts you right in the line of traffic and it's a good way to get killed. You always exit via the passenger side-note the stairs.
I think this could be a good platform to modify for an RV…
Range will be an issue, this is more for stop and go driving.
@@TotallyJoel If they can get 350-400 miles of range, then you hit the sweet spot. Could park and charge your RV at a campground after 4-5 hours of driving.

My employer just bought 10. Got the first on Friday. Looking forward to the ergonomics as I have driven a box truck or cabover for 20 years. Climbing in and out 50 to 60 times a day has destroyed quite a few feet and knees.
However I am very weary of all the drivers assist. They mean well but they make the driver lazy. Backing up incidents have actually gone up since backup cameras were introduced. Drivers forget to look up, then hit awnings and overhangs much more often.
I want a drag race between this and the dual motor Rivian EDV

For safety, most companies prohibit drivers from exiting on the driver’s side. That’s why that jump seat stays so nicely out of the way and the right side door is so huge.
Using one I found the relatively tight gap between the seat and wheel just had me using the right hand door pretty much exclusively anyway, just much more convenient when you're carrying a package from the back.

Several alternatives, there, impressed me more.
Kind of surprised the wheels aren't offset in the rear(wider) compared to the front. Most delivery vehicles the front wheels are closer to each other compared the ones in the back, this helps a lot with steering.
As an ex FedEx driver, a silicone screen condom for that beautiful screen is absolutely needed. Lots of little grooves between those buttons and they will get jammed and clogged, so the condom must cover them as well. Clear silicone condom cover. Theyll probably need to be replaced every 6 months of so.

It looks more utilitarian than the rivian edv, but it looks fine for a delivery van. Not as fun, but certainly functional.

They can’t ramp until their co-owned battery factories are build and ramp up production. That starts in earnest next year through 2026.

I’d love to see something like this that can carry a work crew of 4. This would be great for a public utility repair truck. What kind of towing can it do? What’s the payload?
You could probably stick two more jump seats right behind the sliding door as needed.
@@jeffs6090 for an actual crew truck it would need to be a 4 door with real seats. But I think it’s an easy setup. Act my job we are looking at EV’s.

When backing up or pulling out of a space we honk to notify oncoming vehicles and pedesetrians of our presensce. Forcing the system to auto do it must be a safety thing.

I so wished we could get one of those electric vans with empty cargo area and no shelves to custom design the interior.
30 years ago I drove a delivery truck. The design of the doors and the jump seat in this truck are pretty much the same as the stick shift cummins diesel engine van I drove. My truck had a maximum speed of a little over 60mph, and it took a while to get up to that speed. The Brightdrop probably accelerates 3 or 4 times faster, although that diesel engine was indestructible.
Hopefully these Electric motors prove indestructible too

I can see what you mean about the turning radius, but that would certainly add too much cost and complexity, which would also mean more breakdowns, repairs and downtime. Sometimes simplicity is the best answer.
Right now, the batteries are the limiting factor and the reason EVs are expensive and also why they are not being built in huge volumes. So I don't think adding an excellent feature is going to happen until the price of batteries makes the vehicles less than the price of the ICE versions.
15:20 GM currently has three different Ultium motor options. Two are PMAC and one is induction. The Zevo 600 is only a single motor, IIRC, so it should be PMAC.
This may sound crazy but I really dig the orange seat belts. It’s nice to seat something other than black or cream colored ones. The rest of the the van is awesome too. Thanks Kyle.
Im honestly really curious if you would take up the opportunity to check out all electric emergency vehicles. Especially with fire departments where they are constantly having to keep exhaust systems attached to their stations to pump out vehicle exhaust. It could be a while until we see fully electric fire engines, but considering that half of a departments fleet is made up of vehicles that we already have some ev variants of, it would be a big leap forward.
well that and they hardly need any range, couple miles per call at most.
I find it funny that this high tech van has the that rear metal box that rattle still, some kind of dampening wasnt worth the money?
Ships sound one long blast before leaving a dock, pilots yell clear before starting their engine, so why not two beeps of the horn before a change of status from parked to moving.
Suspect it beeps because it’s so quiet externally that pedestrians and passing vehicles need to know it’s about to pull away.

Disposable delivery vehicles?
Todays Delivery vehicles owe alot of props to UPS for inspiring functional design, from the leader of last mile Delivery.
They have always been forward thinking in function and design of their vehicles. Amazon was inspired by them. Wouldn't it be great if all Delivery drivers were compensated as well as UPS.
To many Companies choose to give savings back to investors, not there employees. Now you know why UPS was first to step up to EV's.
