I am a newbie and this video just made me buy the platinum 6! I was on the fence but the fact that you recognize other companies and try to problem solve when using their products with yours speaks volumes!
I’ve been paper crafting for a couple of decades, but I only recently purchased the Platinum 6, so this was a VERY helpful tutorial for me. I really appreciate the detail you went into here. I have a decent collection of different embossing folders from different companies. I prefer seeing a video like this before I jump in with my own experiments. Thank you SO much!!
Very helpful video! I have a Platinum machine, which I think works great! So glad I purchased it several years ago, It has often been a challenge to figure out how to get various embossing folders to work. Wish I had seen this video sooner! So simple and easy now thanks to this well-done video demo! Thanks!
Thanks so much for your tips, I've just bought a Platinum 6 and have loads of different types of embossing folders already, so this was really helpful.🙂
Where have you been all my life? I love techie videos. Even though I'm an avid card maker i want to know reasons for things so I know when it's safe to bend the rules. Thank you
I have Ordered the new platinum 6 I will be using all my Spellbinders dies and Embossing with it. I have Sizzix foldaway for my Sizzix dies and Embossing. I really love your 3D EMBOSSING FOLDERS
Thank you! I was wondering about using Stampin’ Up folders with my Spellbinder Platinum 6! I love how your machine is compatible with many other companies, and was the primary reason for buying a Spellbinder!
I guess Im randomly asking but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me!
@Nova Jaylen I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thank you for the kind words Turwen. Creativity has really helped us all get through 2020. Have a great holiday season and make beautiful cards to share.
Thank you for the tips! I have Plat 6 and Glimmer! Love them both. Tips and tricks always help, even when you are a 27 year STAMPER! HAPPY HOLIDAYS! BE SAFE!
Thanks for the tips. I have the larger Platinum and I just got the Glimmer last month. Love them both. wishing everyone a Safe and Happy Holiday Season.
Hello Deliabee. LOVE the hot foil. The projects and cards with foil really stand out. Wishing you a great holiday season also....After this year, we have earned it.
Hello, just saw your video and wanted to help out those that have a Spellbinders 3D Embossing Folder(s). I purchased one not that long ago not realizing that there was a plate for it that they do not carry anymore until watching this video. I just did a test run and you don't need to buy anything extra for the 3D Embossing Folder. I have the Oval Accent and ran it through my Spellbinders Platinum without a problem. Just use your regular Platform, then put you 3D Embossing Folder with paper on top along with the Standard Cutting Plate. Run it through one time (forward only) and it should come out perfect. Good luck!
I am Spellbinders loyalist LOL I switched to the Platinum 6, although my original faithful (the red one?) was still kicking, and am SO very happy with it! I also have the Glimmer Hot Foil machine, it’s the best! Nothing compares to Spellbinders IMHO. Thank you for these great embossing tips and I look forward to seeing more 👏
That was helpful. Thank you! My question.... I have a couple of the old 3D Spellbinders folders, but I never bought the 3D plate. What other recommendation do you have for using those folders, since the plate is no longer available? I have a Platinum 6.
Thank You for this video!! I have been using Spellbinders since I switched from that tiny Quickutz 2x2. I agree that my Platinum is The Best❤️❤️. I have recently got embossing folders that are very thick (Simon Says Stamp) & just ordered some Tim Holtz. I thought I would look for videos because the ones I watched (that was recommended) looked like it would break the folder, plate or machine. I used the tan mat like you showed and everything went well with great results. I am so glad I didn’t try to put it through after the first video I watched. Thank You again!!
I have embossing folders by Darice and Cuttlebug also. The sandwich that works is: base = platform, then the embossing folder (with only one piece of cardstock), then the rubber mat; then the clear plate. This sandwich works without stressing the machine. When I tried to use the cardstock as a card (which would be two pieces of cardstock), it was too much pressure for the machine. ( I tried using the sandwich you proposed which used two cutting plates and it would not go through the machine.) I have the Spellbinders Platinum PL-001
Please can you advise that the correct combination quoted from Heartfelt Creations for platinum 6 to use a flower mould is - embossed mat, fllower mould then paper shim on top. What can I use for a paper shim. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you Ann 🤔
That silicone mat that I have for my big Spellbinders Platinum sucks right into the top rollers of my machine. It is a pain in the neck. Spellbinders needs to come up with a better way to cut the Tim Holtz impresslits. I have almost not been able to get my mat out of the machine. It is very frustrating and it didn't even cut the impresslits all the way through.
Excellent video thank you…you both were great! I recently purchased the Pine metal embossing plate but cant seem to figure out the sandwich. Thank you in advance! -christine
How do you use the old 3D embossing folder without the plate that has now been discontinued? How does the old embossing plate compare to the raspberry plate that was used with the grand caliber? I just purchased the Platinum 6 and would like to be able to use several old folders that I have. Thanks so much for your help.
When you say "thin" sheets, that can mean a lot of things to a lot of people :-); very thin aluminum type metal should not be a problem. It's hard to answer that without more information. Also note that it's hard for us to test every thing out there. Something that is really thin should work.
I was given as a gift a Darice sandwich - I had just gotten my Platinum 6. I caught on quickly that using the foam mat could be used and not the guide on the platform. Hence wanting to check out this video. I DO however have an issue.. When I was working with the embossing using a die cut. MY die cut kept moving (or perhaps the card stock was moving.. and my impressing went offside of the cardstock. DO I need a magnet plate? How do I prevent this? do I have to mask tape the card stock? the Die cut when I am embossing?? thanks in advance of your support.
I've heard several times that spaying the folder or the paper lightly helps to keep the paper from tearing. Is this true or not necessary? Thanks so much for this. I was breaking my arm trying to crank my Spellbinders Platinum 8
Thanks for the informative video. For years, I used the Vagabond and recently switched to the Platinum 6 which I am loving and I get better embossing results with many of my folders. But, I have six of the old Spellbinders white 3-D folders and never had the Embossing Plate and since it’s no longer made, I’m not sure what to use for those folders. Can you help? Thanks!
The 3D plate is discontinued but we have ordered a few plastic sheets off of Amazon to test and see if they work. Once we receive and test, we will do an update for you guys. They are supposed to arrive in Early December so give us a few weeks.
Hey Maureen, I did finally receive the ABS sheet that I ordered and tested. When I ordered they only had the 200mm x 200mm available which is to big for the P6 without being cut. It does work on the Platinum with lots of space leftover. I now see they are back in stock of the 150mm x 200mm which in theory should work just fine also. I did have to add 1 sheet of card stock to act as a shim and get the best results. So my sandwich was baseplate, 1 sheet of 80lb yardstick, embossing folder with 80lb card stock and the plastic sheet below on top. I over shimmed to see what would happen ( I was an only child and never broke my toys, so this was hard lol) and it did bend the plastic but when I flipped over and ran through again, it straightened out. - just my little tip Here is the link: www.amazon.com/JKGHK-Moldable-Suitable-Architectural-Accessories/dp/B08XWHFHX1/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=abs+plastic+sheet+2.5mm&qid=1615843523&sr=8-4 It took about 4 weeks to get it but I think shipments are getting better now so be patient and happy crafting.
Great idea to make videos like this! I embossed with my then brand new Platinum 6 exactly according to the instructions - unfortunately... The machine still works, but the side parts no longer close properly. How can that be? I couldn't know how strong the pressure should be and the folder could be cranked through - it was difficult, but it worked. However, the folder with the entire record shot out of the machine on the other side so violently that we now have a small hole in the parquet and I am sad that the great machine no longer closes properly. Now I have a question for you :-): How does a metal adapter plate work with the platinum 6? There are some very detailed dies that the machine doesn't cut properly and a plate like this is supposed to help!?
Robin & Denze, Me again...the comeback kid so to speak. Anyway I'm attempting to 3D emboss with Tim Holtz cut and emboss shapes. He has leaves & scrolls and flowers and buttons etc. They cut out at the same time they emboss. I'm wanting to use them with my Platinum & with very thick material. I have the sizzix texture roll in metalics also in matte white and tan. And looking at the Kraft-Tech paper which is very similar and you can dye the Kraft-Tech. Anyway finding that I'm having trouble getting a good cut even when it embosses into the thicker materials nicely it does not always cut clean. Some of these dies are pretty simple cut wise but a few are more intricate with inner tiny cut outs and again sometimes it's cutting well other times not so much. Also I've been playing with the wet and no wet or spritzed with water materials to see if that makes a difference and so far not much change in outcome. I've tried various techniques as you've demonstrated here with rubber mat or not and it seems too thick for me to add the embossing harder mat to the sandwich. The Tim Holtz dies are very thick compared to others as you demonstrated here and maybe these that cut are even thicker. Maybe that's part the problem and contributing to outcome. I really want to use all these super 3D cut & emboss dies but also use the TEXTURED Paper product with a lot of thin dies. Again when it come to the thin dies I am not always getting a CLEAN cut through. Kind of like half sometimes even less than half. In otherwords some places cut through other spots have not cleanly cut through. I've tried wax paper and plastic papers saved from cereal inserts which I think works better than wax but worry that is just adding to the thickness. I also have been attempting to cut a variety of vinyls and faux leathers which are suppose to cut well with thin dies but still not always. Any suggestion or technical tips you can suggest would be helpful. I am really new at this. I made a note book to keep track & chart the different materials and outcomes and sandwich options used. I'm going to replay your video again because I recall one sandwich you sent the folders through without any cutting top. Of course for the 3D plates that actually CUT and emboss I probably do need to have a cutting mat facing the blade side. I really think the two of you together as techies would be very helpful to us still in the learning curve mode. Thank you both for the Videos.
We have a whole die cutting series on our channel with the newer machines and plates: th-cam.com/play/PLpdEyq5Mv8fRGCgJC8A6s9FEOrpkr-7BR.html&si=jnjQT0OpyZPX2rpB
Hi. Is it normal for my cutting plate to pop up a but in the back as im running something through. Or does that mean the sandwich is too thick. Reason i ask is because im trying to add the embossing rubber mat to an embossing folder and i think it may be too thick. Can i use more than one shim instead to see if that would work? Like an extra one or two?
What should I do if the rubber mat is too tight? I do have those dark Tim Holtz folders. I thought I could try just a piece of card stock on top. Any suggestions?
I tried my Tim Holtz 3D the way they also suggested and my silicone mat got stuck in the roller! I put two pieces of cardstock on-top instead and that seemed to go thru nicely and have a good impression. I just hope I didnt ruin my brand new machine by getting the mat stuck :/
I have a Big Shot, I recently purchased a Spellbinders 3 D 5x7 embossing folder. Do I follow the sandwich for 3D embossing folders or do I have to do something else because of the size. I love my Big Shot, have used it for many years. If I were to purchase a new machine, it would be a larger Big Shot.
I’m fairly new to Papercrafting and card-making, so I’m still learning. I have the large Platinum FSJ machine, and I’d like to try some of the new Crafters Companion cut and emboss folders, which are a somewhat different style to the Spellbinders cut and emboss folders you showed in this video, so I’m not sure what ‘sandwich’ would be appropriate - I don’t have much experience to fall back on. Another thing that CC has produced recently is double sided dies, and I have no idea how to put these through my Spellbinders machine either. Also they have 3D embossing folders, and I’m not sure how these compare with the thicker Tim Holtz folders that you showed, as I don’t have any of the TH ones. Any suggestions you have would be helpful. Thank you for this video - I hope there’ll be more to come.
Hey Christina, we are all still learning . :-) Welcome to paper crafting! Could you send a link of the folders you are trying to get to work to our CS team and we will try and get you an answer.
Thank you for making this series. I love your dies and embossing folders. I currently subscribe to the monthly kit. I absolutely love it! I own Big Kick/Sizzix machine and it is a nice machine. But I am looking for a Mini machine. Do you carry one? I would love to know more about if so. It would be perfect for the kit dies. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Now off to Crack into my Santa Lane kit! Have a great weekend!🙂
This was so helpful as I recently purchased a Platinum 6 and wasn't able to get the gray 3d embossing plate - I do have several of the old Spellbinders 3d embossing folders - You used the gray plate with that in the demo, but since I can't get that plate do you have a suggestion for a sandwich? Thanks
I would love to have one of those machines I don’t have one so I tried to buy one so it’s there but they might order didn’t go through or something went wrong so when I get everything right I will be by me up a machine and I will get back with gel but I appreciate everything y’all does it is amazing what you can do with this machine thank you
ROBIN & DENZEL, Where are YOU 2? I loved this video & you mentioned you were starting a new series. I assumed you meant together. But I searched for more video's with the two of you because you really were great together. Very helpful. (I have the Platinum 8.5 and went a bit wild in picking up dies and emboss materials and tools. Way before I even attempted to use. It all started with being frustrated when it came to punching out personalized alphabets names or mini phrases and with a punch you are pretty much stuck on an edge only not a lot of reach. Next thing I knew I've gone over board and OMGosh. HOW to manage and use all of these wonderful products when I am NOT a card maker. (I do make cards mind you but for the past 24 years it's full half page cards usually photos I take of wildlife, then personalize in big creative ways both inside or outside depending on the project at hand. I never got into the layering thing but family and friends. I cherish each and everyones special cards saving everyone. So here's the thing. I want to emboss and also use alphabets and small wee cut out dies as punches that leave the design HOLE so to speak. (Example: Judy's Purrfect Notes with a cat or two or three cut out around the same c mini note books cover. I want to be able to cut through strong cover stock, thick or thin vinyls and even chipboard at times across the board so to speak. To achieve what I'm going after. I also got caught up with the possiblities of glimmer foiling so now I'm expanding into adding not just the personal touch but pesonality quirks & whimsy via foiling such as the celestial line that Spellbinder has which allows me to carry into the inside cover page too.) Anyway botton line after watching this lovely and well done video I wanted MORE from the two of you. So charming so cute and so helpful. Here I was thinking I had to add far more pressure via shims to sandwich build up for some of the embossing plates such as Tim Holtz 3D's. I just bought several of his 3D impresslits that make cut out and super deep embossing that are like embossed cut out charms of smaller shapes. if you use the thicker materials like Sizzix Texture Roll metalics and Kraft-tex which can be very thick & stubborn to cut it's challenging. So the New impresslits These dies cut & emboss at the same time. I make specific subject books too and so looking for corner and 3D super deep embossed charms to attach to the corners of the covers. I love texture so velvets, flocked contact papers or actually non adhesive contact paper and vinyls as heavy as marine upholstery vinyls & of course all the rage the thinner faux leather and suede fabric/paper materials too. In other words I'm a little left field for what most of what I'm seeing here on TH-cam across all brands and I jumped into the deep end of the pool before I even mastered any of the basics. So here I am playing catch up & your video is just what I'm hungry for. I do know Covid could be messing with further posts but as soon as possible. I'm waiting on you as the come back kids. I can't be the ONLY one here wanting more from the twp of you!!! Please.. By far the best Spellbinder video to date. (I don't think I can stand yet another UNPACKING VIDEO. Really who came up with that routine where they show you little to nothing. And everyone is doing the same presentation over and over. BORING.) You to are not boring. You brought a lot to the table and all kidding aside I just want MORE. (OK you are adorable too and yes I'm probably old enough to be your MOM.)
I have a Spellbinders Platinum machine. Using the Platform, purple Embossing plate that came with the machine it will NOT let me use a Spellbinder SES-030 folder with a simple piece of card stock. It gets stuck after a few cranks and won’t go through. It appears to be too thick of a folder. I do not understand since I am using all Spellbinder materials. I watched your video and determined that the SES-030 Spellbinder folder was too thick even with no paper in it What do you recommend I do when purchasing a folder? I feel like I’ve wasted my money on a folder I should be able to use, but can’t. It makes me leery of making future purchases Thank you in advance for your help and ideas. Also, thanks for the videos and this site to ask questions Sincerely, CS
You need to use a cutting plate instead of the purple embossing plate (platform + folder with paper inside + clear cutting plate). The embossing plate is only for embossing with dies, not for embossing with various folders.
The 3D plate is discontinued but we have ordered a few plastic sheets off of Amazon to test and see if they work. Once we receive and test, we will do an update for you guys. They are supposed to arrive in Early December so give us a few weeks.
Thank you for this video - very helpful. With the old spellbinders 3d folders if you do not have the 3d sandwich plate to put on top what else could be used to get the proper pressure?

QUESTION: i had a big shot for 3 years and I just purchased the Platinum 6. I went to use a TH Embossing Folder with the tan embossing mat on top (like you did) and my tan mat got all stuck up in my rollers and when i cleared the jam it caused an odd film on my Embossing folder and mat. I tried cleaning it off but no luck. I moticed in this video after you used the TH folder you put ypur hand inside to touch the rollers too as if something happened too. Im scared to use another 3d Embossing Folder in my Platinum 6 for this reason. So my question is, is there another alternative? Or should i just keep my big shot for Embossing Folders(which i was going to sell). I should be able to do everything i need with 1 machine though.
I had this same problem, see above. I used a Momento folder and tan mat just like they showed in 6:18 - left my cutting plate with a bunch of sticky stuff. I used a quick swipe of goo gone then Dawn and water wash and got it off. But it was my first try with a brand new machine. I'm really not happy that they are showing people how to do this and then we end up with this result. And no one comes back to read the comments. Or, they seem to post on just a few. Anyhow.
@@thehoys9412 yeah im surprised this machine is raved about. Ive been using it daily and my plates warped and i just had 1 crack yesterday (ive NEVER EVER had a plate crack). So now using the big shot for 3 years and this machine for 6 months...im sorry to say I like my Big shot better. Easier to use Embossing Folders and less warping of plates. Still in shock my plate cracked. It wasnt even used much. It was still see through. It wasnt all "white like". I hate to give bad reviews but not entirely happy with this.
@@TheSunshineCrafterKellyFusco This is my first ever machine, just bought it 2 weeks ago. So we shall see. I really like that it folds up - it's what drew me away from Sizzix. I know they have a fold-up one, but this one was on sale so I grabbed it. I figured I'll use it for as long as I can, then can always try another brand if I like. BTW, I hear that Spellbinders actually has great customer service. You might want to think about writing them. The machine has a year ltd warranty, but if you register it you get 5 yrs.
@@thehoys9412 yeah i like the fold up too, ironically i never fold it up. I use it too much so it stays open. Well i have both now. I was going to sell my big shot but decided im keeping it. The 3D Embossing Folders are a struggle for sure w/the platinum.
I just got the Spellbinders today. Didn’t use it yet. The bottom plate still shows the gray plate for embossing but I know it was discontinued. How do you do 3d? I hope this video explains it.
Hi! Thanks for the video and demo. I'm new to all this and I purchased the Platinum 6 machine. I have a Sizzix 3D Impresslits embossing folder. I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of sandwich to use for it as it is very thick. I really don't want to tear up my machine, lol. Thanks
Hi Denise. I just tried my Impresslits 3D folder using the sandwich they used for the Sizzix 3D embossing folder and it worked great! I had been wondering how to use the Impresslits in my new Platinum 6 and this is the very reason why I ended up watching this video. Great video!
@@dianeseaward6270 wow - I tried the way they showed with the platform, a TH Sizzix 3-D folder and the rubber mat and almost broke my Platinum 6! Way too thick. Instead of the rubber mat I need to use just 3 paper shims.
Just a thought, I have the teal machine and I use it when I want to cut a lot at one time. The plates with that machine (teal) hold up better then the new machine plates. Can you make your plates with the old material?
Thanks for the comments Dee Dee. We are looking at various materials and hope to have some announcements in 2021. Keep your eyes open. We need to do longevity tests not only how the plates last but also does it hurt the life of the die.
I am brand new to the Spellbinder and this was extremely helpful. I purchased an alphabet die and they come all attached. I wanted to ask what is probably a silly question, but due to my lack of use... I don't want to ruin it out of the box. Can I separate the letters and only cut the individual ones that spell out my word or do I need to cut the entire alphabet each time?
Yes! You should be able to cut these apart using wire cutters. You can also simply cut your paper smaller (to the size of individual letter), cover just the letters you need to cut with cardstock and die-cut this way. I have this set and that's how I usually cut it. I hope this helps! -Yana
@@spellbinders That does help. Thank you for your personal instruction as well as this video. I have always (pre-covid) taken classes with new equipment and I now feel confident to get going ;-)
I started making cards 3 years ago and finally got my first die cutting machine a month ago. I chose the Platinum 6 and it has worked flawlessly, I've been using it daily and it has definitely enhanced my card making. Edit: I posted my question before the video finished, sorry. I've seen several videos of card makers building their sandwich as follows: platform, plate, die, paper, plate. The cutting edge of the die faces up, the explanation being that you'll get a better cut if the rollers "hit" the cutting edge of the die. Is it advisable to use dies upside down as I've seen in videos? Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.
Great Question, thank you for asking. That is a true statement. However, you will most likely only notice a difference on very detailed dies. It's logical that the more design, the more "pressure" that is required. Lots of companies are making stamps and dies that cut out the stamp design. The only real way to do that is by placing the blade face down so people get used to cutting with the blade face down. But you are 100% correct if you have a detailed die, flip with the blade face up and paper on top. That is true with all die cutting machines.
@@AndreMmmm I seen a tip that you can use when doing a stamp and die without having to put the blade face down and I use it all the time with my Lawn Fawn stamp and die sets. I firstly make a die cut template (just a tiny square cut out with the die cut image in the middle) then take the die cut and the die cut template to my Misti. I then use a scrap bit of paper to stamp the image and line up my die cut template over the stamped image. Once I am happy with the outline all around I pop my die cut into the template hole as it fits perfect, then I stamp on the die cut. It means I can do loads of stamped die cuts at the same time ;) hope that makes sense!!
I recently purchased the Platinum machine thinking it would give me more flexibility because of the larger platform. Two questions: do all of your instructions apply to the Platinum and Platinum 6 interchangeably? Can I run my Glimmer platform through my Platinum? Many thanks, this is a great idea.
The height of the gap is the same, the width is different (obviously). The Platinum does have a little less "flexing" than the P6. Therefore on those super, super detailed dies you will probably only need 1 pass on the Platinum vs 2 on the P6. Other than that they are the same sandwiches for dies and embossing. Thank you.
I have the FSJ Platinum 6 machine. I recently bought some Spellbinders 3D embossing folders when they were on clearance. I had no idea I needed the grey plate for them, and now it's discontinued. Am I out of luck with things that I'll never be able to use? Or is there something else I can use? PLEASE!
stampin up has a specialty plate for 3d embossing for their new stampin cut & emboss machine which looks similar to this machine. Maybe that would work?
Recently I’ve bought 2 Platinum 6 machines as gifts. Today we tried a Stampin Up newer 3D embossing folder with recommended sandwich. It wouldn’t go through. Tried using some thin cardboard, went thru but not deep enough impression. From watching this video, should we be using the rubber mat only with Stampin Up 3D folders? Thank you for your help!😊💐
@@lindameunier2580 I also have an old cuttlebug. Their platform is a tad thinner than spellbinders. my sandwich for a stampinup 3d folder, which is very thick : 1) cuttlebug A platform; 2} embossing folder; 3} sb cutting plate; 4) sb rubber mat. I think you can still buy the A platforms online.
I have the P6 and P8.5 machines. Both early with regular platform not the universal. However I bought the Universal packs when they came out. I actually bought two for the P6 my go to machine usually. NOW my big disappointment with all of my Spellbinder, Big Kick, Side Kick, Gemini, New Empress is none will work well if at all with my Diamond Press Dies. The DP dies are extremely thin made for their lovely like turning pads of butter larger die machines. (I have two of their larger machines. (One was bought to gift but due to the fact their cutting folders are so expensive I hesitate to gift it to someone I know is on a very restricted budget.) My problem is Spellbinder like Sizzix like Diamond Press assure that all dies will work with their meachines as long as you follow instructions of sandwich protocols for their equipment. I am extremely good with that kind of figure it out. BUT the DP dies just aren't covered. No matter the shim size or depth or multiples there off I can not find the right combination that works with the DP Dies through any of my machines. But the most annoying is not being able to use them realistically and dependability through the P6 and P8.5's. So frustrating. I've bought even the expensive chrome precision plate that's a bit thicker thinking for sure that would solve the problem. It did not. Though most all dies go through the Marquises by Diamond Press including their own they also warp severely the soft folder cutting plates. And so as much as I love the feel of the DP machines I've put them aside except for special occasions when I MUST use one of their designs for a special card. I wonder why Spellbinders along with Sizzix insist in saying their machines will work with ALL Dies and thin dies with the right combination and provide tables for those combination of shims and plates they fall short when it comes to the DP dies? HSN often shows a mix of machines and dies and materials on their special craft day presentations crossing the board so to speak. But clearly this just falls through the cracks. PLEASE since you two lovely people do research behind the scenes perhaps you can look into how to succeed with DP dies in the two Platinums and now the P-Scout too !!!! (PS I do wish you had developed the Scout with a 4" wide mouth. Why? should you ask. I am a fan of steel rule dies of which I own well over 50. Many Spellbinders a few Sizzix but around 30 Superdant dies. Most of my Superdant steel rule dies are 3.9" square shaped. Too big for the Scout. But it does work great through the two big brother/sisters. My real wish is you release info on the plates or sandwich if you will that will allow success with DP dies. (I have word dies and a few unique designs like the ever folding card die to Diamond Press and oh yes their adorable Wobble head die sets. Pets and Santa/Elfs.) No go through the Platinum's. Thank you buy the way with all your help and making a really well done machine and my favorite. (I hate the Gemini, Not a fan of the Empress as it fails to run half the time if it's not plain card stock forget glitter card stock.

Hi, @Theresa: It's up to you! The Platinum 6 is manual and can be taken just about anywhere, whereas with the Gemini Jr. you need to make sure you're with an electrical outlet. I can benefits with both!
@@robinbeam9046 Thanks Robin I realize the the P6 is manual but my real question is for those who have both is there an occasion that you prefer one over the other? I don't take my machines away from home so that wouldn't influence me. I Do have a big shot pro but I almost never use it because it's so big and heavy and cumbersome.
@@Tessiefaye you can do the 3D embossing on a Gemini easier than on a manual machine. Some heavily detailed dies cut better with a Gemini. Hope this helps
Doris, yes, it can fit the Big Shot machine. With room to spare. When putting in, the easiest way is to hold by the handle, put one end of the feet in first, push the entire machine in and then twist it. I had no problems getting in and when it is in you still have lots of room for plates, dies and accessories.
I just found your video today (YEAH) and hope that you might be able to help me with the embossing issues that I have been having. I have 3 embossing machines and have been having major issues with them embossing. I have your Spellbinder Platinium 6 and the larger Spellbinder (which I just received) as well as Anna Griffin's Empress machine. I haven't been able to use any of my 3D Altenew embossing folders with any of my machines. The folders are about 1/4 thick and refuse to go through my Spellbinders. What sandwich would you suggest that I use to get the folders to work? I have the platform, blue embossing plate, tan rubber mat and the two clear cutting plates for both of my Spellbinder machines. I have spent a great deal on machines and 3D folders and would really like to be able to use them. If you or any of the people that have also come across this issue would give me your input, I really would appreciate it. Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.
I have found that the cuttlebug A platform is a tad thinner than the SB platform and works better with the 3d thick folders. so, try A platform, embossing folder, cutting plate, foam mat. It fits in the SB 6 machine.
I just purchased the Platinum from Hobby Lobby and it is so hard to get anything to go through it. I really have to struggle to turn the handle to cut any type of die. Any idea on what the problem could be?
I had that problem with mine when die cutting. I purchased a cutting mat to replace my bottom plate and it works so much better now. No warped plates and easier to turn the handle. I purchased it off of Amazon and it fits the full sized Platinum almost perfectly. Here is the link: www.amazon.com/dp/B00DH8GCIQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I am a newbie and this video just made me buy the platinum 6! I was on the fence but the fact that you recognize other companies and try to problem solve when using their products with yours speaks volumes!
Just a little tip for the Tim Holtz 3D folders. Mist it with a little water & it will give you more detail.
I used the silicone mat like they suggested and it got stuck so I used two pieces of cardstock on-top instead
@@sallycooper7677, that's exactly my experience!
Thanks!
8/5/23. Just unboxed my new Platinum. Thx for this much needed help with my (too) many 3d folders. Anxious to emboss with my stencils, too
Thank you I am new to embossing and just got my spellbinder and need to learn everything.

Thank you
You saved me from returning my machine. My plates would not go thru the machine. After watching your video I figured out why thank you so very much

Great information. 👍🏼 Thank you!
Thank you for this video. I thought I had to purchase a special 3D plate. It worked. Thank you for sharing.
Very helpful video. Thanks So Much.
Thank you! I so needed this today!
Thank you for these great embossing tips and I look forward to seeing more 👏
Thank you for you love of creativity and support!
Thank you! So much for this video
Very helpful. Thank you
You're welcome!
That was helpful. Thank you!
My question.... I have a couple of the old 3D Spellbinders folders, but I never bought the 3D plate. What other recommendation do you have for using those folders, since the plate is no longer available? I have a Platinum 6.
Very very helpful tutorial. Thanks!
New to Spellbinder Thank You

So helpful, thank you. Just subscribed.
Thank you so much. I am new at this and stumped with the sizzix folder. Very helpful!!❤️
Thank You again!!
great video!!!! i just ordered the big platium!!! cant wait to tryit!!
Good tutorial ! Someone 8 mos ago asked how to set up the Altenew 3d folders? I’d like to know the answer to that too!
So helpful, thank you very much!
I have the same problem. I use 3 paper shims instead of the mat
Thank you!!! Now I know how to use my embossing folders so happy I thought my machine wasn’t working properly 😅
Excellent video thank you…you both were great! I recently purchased the Pine metal embossing plate but cant seem to figure out the sandwich. Thank you in advance! -christine
What is the sandwich for using the Sizzix 3D Impresslits in the Platinum 6? Thank you 😊
How do you use the old 3D embossing folder without the plate that has now been discontinued? How does the old embossing plate compare to the raspberry plate that was used with the grand caliber? I just purchased the Platinum 6 and would like to be able to use several old folders that I have. Thanks so much for your help.
Looking for suggestions to running a crafter's companion 3D embossing folder. I don't want to break my new platinum.
Thanks! That's a helpful tutorial! I'm wondering if it can emboss thin metal sheets??
@@denzilquick2399 Did you get these plastic sheets? Did they work?
- just my little tip

It took about 4 weeks to get it but I think shipments are getting better now so be patient and happy crafting.
Hi there,
We are so sorry to hear this. Please send an email to customersupport@spellbinders.us regarding this issue.
@@spellbinders Hi there, Which do you mean, the first or the second?
How do I set up to use Altenew 3D Embossing Folders?

@@stampingwithdee2671 with using spellbinders specialty plate that is included?
What do I use with a Stamping up embossing folder for a Platinum Machine? Which pieces do I use for the Platinum but not the ^
I just bought a platinum 6 to use with my Stampin up 3D folders and I can’t get it through. I was hoping they would address this. The mat is too thin.
Can you use the Darice embossing folder in the spellbinders?
I can't get it to work
Does the large die cutting machine work the same way?
I have the regular platinum and am wondering how the Simon Says 3d folders -have tried a couple of variations and had problems
How do you use intricate dies with the Spellbinders Platinum machine?
Love this de. O
Thanks
I would love to have one of those machines I don’t have one so I tried to buy one so it’s there but they might order didn’t go through or something went wrong so when I get everything right I will be by me up a machine and I will get back with gel but I appreciate everything y’all does it is amazing what you can do with this machine thank you
I like how your hair matches your blouse.☺
What keeps the rubber mat from being cut when you die emboss?
The lack of pressure. Like a sponge, it absorbs the pressure and prevents cutting.
I watched your video and determined that the SES-030 Spellbinder folder was too thick even with no paper in it
What do you recommend I do when purchasing a folder? I feel like I’ve wasted my money on a folder I should be able to use, but can’t. It makes me leery of making future purchases
Thank you in advance for your help and ideas. Also, thanks for the videos and this site to ask questions
Sincerely, CS
You need to use a cutting plate instead of the purple embossing plate (platform + folder with paper inside + clear cutting plate). The embossing plate is only for embossing with dies, not for embossing with various folders.
Does this work on 9 ounce leather belts ?

Victoria, can you please tell us which die set it is?
Hero Arts Fancy dies: Luggage Tag Alphabet D1342 THANK YOU
Yes! You should be able to cut these apart using wire cutters.
You can also simply cut your paper smaller (to the size of individual letter), cover just the letters you need to cut with cardstock and die-cut this way. I have this set and that's how I usually cut it.
I hope this helps!

That does help.
@@denzilquick2399 Thanks for responding.
Thank you.
@@denzilquick2399 Thank you so very much, really appreciate your response. Hope you keep making these videos for us.
I tried the Tim Holtz 3-D texture fade mini according to this tutorial and it just didn't work. I hope I haven't broken anything inside my machine :-(
I have the FSJ Platinum 6 machine.
I had this same problem. I can't get my sandwich to go through or it comes out blurry because it's moving too much
@@lindameunier2580 I also have an old cuttlebug. Their platform is a tad thinner than spellbinders. my sandwich for a stampinup 3d folder, which is very thick : 1) cuttlebug A platform; 2} embossing folder; 3} sb cutting plate; 4) sb rubber mat. I think you can still buy the A platforms online.
Has anyone been able to use the Tim Holtz Embossing Diffusers?
I have a question. I have a platinum 6. If I have to get new plates for what size do I get.
Standard Size. Have a great Day!
I just tried to run a tim holtz 3d folder thru my platinum 6 following your direction and it will not go through the machine ???
Hi there, please reference the "Embossing Folders Guide" section on our Universal Plate System Sandwich Guide here: spellbinderspaperarts.com/pages/universal-plate-system
The recommended sandwich guide for a Tim Holtz 3D Embossing Folder with a folder thickness of 5.5mm using the Universal Plate System is number 3
A) Platform Base
B) Embossing Folder with Paper Inside
C) Cutting Plate
Question, Do I need both a Platinum 6 and a Gemini Jr?
@@bertas-cards Thanks Roberta
Have you tried the plastic sheets from Amazon for 3d embossing yet?
Which plastic sheets are you referencing?
Will the platinum machine rolling tote hold a Big Shot machine
I am so sorry. I measured two folders together instead of just one. Measurement is 1/8th inch instead of 1/4th.
