I love how on the day the ps4 comes out, this guy or guys (or girl or girls) sticks with the tried and true, putting up an atari 2600 video; old school is the best school, old is gold, lmao
That's the catchiest theme song ever. I used to be able to play it on the piano. I used to play this game a lot back in the 80's as a kid but I haven't played it since. I still remember how the tune goes although I haven't heard it in over 30 years.
One of my all time favorites. Involved so much for the time. Shooting in two directions. Changing speeds--even on jumps. Shooting tanks, aircraft, and massive piles of dog turds. So much going on onscreen at one time.
This was a good adaptation for 2600. And it’s pretty challenging. Getting through those craters and boulders the way they’re set up is tricky a lot of times.
If you move the right difficulty switch to A you get 3 speeds, if it's on B you get 2 speeds "which keeps you on a faster speed instead of a medium speed" The left difficulty switch turns on and off the music.
I enjoyed watching you play this game! It was just like watching myself play. I flipped the game but I forgot what happened when I flipped the whole game. I really love this game. It was my first game along with another Atari game as a birthday present and the original 2600 that came out first, the bigger one. I wore out two of those and I wore out the smaller console of the 2600 that came out years later. I never owned the 5200 and I never really wanted that one. The games were much bigger almost like the cartridge of the original Nintendo console they were just as expensive when they first came out. My mother bought it as a birthday present for me from Toys R Us. I sure wish I still had the Atari 2600 and this game along with some other ones. Thank you for sharing this vid😁😘!
I've never beaten the second level even though you can start on 2nd level. The third level must be somewhat different or he would have just done the same pattern.
I just picked this game up at my used game store the other day. It's so fun. I soo hate the missile from behind. Glad there are checkpoints. Very rewarding.
Great video. I could remember the 1990, I was 9 years old and my parents gave me for christmas the atari 2600 with moon patrol. I was so happy to play for hour
Bought this cartridge this morning, awesome game. I'm currently discovering the Atari 2600 after i bought one 2 weeks ago. I wish i grew up when these games were at the height of their popularity (i'm 21).
Indeed, this one is a Classic with an upper-case "C." Although the game is over years-old, it's still quite impressive when you consider the weak hardware for which it was developed. Any 2600 fan would be wise to pick up a copy of this great game. If you're in a process of collecting great games for the system, your library is incomplete without this one!
I was 11 when this came out and it was supposed to be for me and my brothers but between this Pac Man and Missile Command you couldn't my dad away from the Atari . In the end mum got us kids a second TV and Atari and we saved up our money for the games .
I still have my dear old Atari 2600 Junior with my old collection of cartridges, including Moon Patrol. Pretty advanced game for the 2600 hardware, the cartridge I own sometimes was able to reproduce the music in game, sometimes not. Never understood why, but with music or not, this one was one of the favourite games for the system along with Solaris (another incredible game for the 2600 hardware), Jungle Hunt, Mario Bros, Midnight Magic (an outstanding flipper game), Defender II, Pole Position, Kangaroo and Dark Chambers.
The music is optional that can be turned on or off with the difficulty switch on the back of the 2600. This is one of Atari's better arcade ports along with Millipede, Joust, and Jr. Pacman. 👍
I think I read they outsourced it. Maybe that's why everything works so well: graphics, gameplay, sound, music. The day of the lone-programmer should have ended a year or two earlier, with help from a graphic artist and a sound person. Then those games that were time-constrained might have been much better.
Dee Dee came here because I remembered playing Dee Dee's Moon Squad, one of Dexter's Lab web games on Cartoon Network website, when I was younger. It was Dee Dee's version.
I remember renting this game and the Atari 2600 for my birthday as a kid, thinking it was so much fun. Later when we got an Atari 2600 I could never find it to purchase. lol It needs to get bundled in a retro package for Xbox and Playstation
The 2600 has some really classic sounds in particular the Pac-Man eating sound is just amazing the sound of like the digital fart essentially a top one
I think it's top notch, probably the best graphics you could get from the system, with the scrolling background, spaceships that can share a row, overlap and move around dropping bombs, while new obstacles appear in your path, including bombing a new crater. And your lunar rover looks like it has motion with its "treads."
Inolvidable y nostálgico juego !!i favorito de niño !!!
we peoples they will play this live....we are the generation that will see the history of videogaming in reallife. we have play aaaall games and all systems in history from c64 to amiga to ms dos and pc. from atari to 8bit 16 bit 32 bit 64bit and and and.....we know it all. and we are the only generation.
a friend of mine still had his Atari 2600 in 1990 and we played this, I hadn't yet played the arcade game and this seemed pretty cool. I like how it looks like your buggy is crawling along on little feet. lol
I played this (and Jungle Hunt) at the arcade first. I learned recently that so many of their games were based on arcade games from the 1970s. I did get and play Vanguard before I knew it was an arcade game; though I did see it at a pizzeria later where you travel diagonally instead of orthogonally.
I’ve had that tune stuck in my head for over 30 years. Just like I remember it.
Same
Good blues tune
Same
Me too that’s why I’m here. 😂
Music in an Atari game!
RIP dad 😥 i miss playing this game with you so much... I love you dad ❤
💙

The most addictive sound of any 2600 games
Axeman Racing I agree
Lol! Agreed
Man! How I liked this Music when Child!

It really did have crazy gameplay for the time. The music was tight too.
Yeah that was awesome for that time
Those tanks were adorable
this is one of the best games on the 2600 I used to play this after school constantly.
This one was definetly on the high end of sophistication for the 2600. I played this non-stop as a little kid.
Even some choppy parallax scrolling...on a 2600!
@@ventisette. Better frame rate than Race Drivin! (SNES/Genesis)
@@ventisette.
There were a couple if 2600 games that featured parallax scrolling, quite the luxury back then!
You are by far the best moon patrol player I’ve ever seen. It does look like a Delorean!
Yea a Delorean with tank treads hehe
I recall the music more than the graphical memories. Good times.
I love the positive atmosphere in this game.
You're just rolling around in a moon car, shooting aliens and vibing.
This was a good adaptation for 2600. And it’s pretty challenging. Getting through those craters and boulders the way they’re set up is tricky a lot of times.
Decades later and I just realized you can slow the hell down...
Same. I never passed the entire game
@@DavidLaredoRazo There's no ending lol

Wow. This is good for atari 2600.

1st game I bought!

Moonwalking to the blues in the early 80s. Loved this game!
I just picked this game up at my used game store the other day. It's so fun. I soo hate the missile from behind. Glad there are checkpoints. Very rewarding.
The theme to both Moon Patrol and M.U.L.E. still show up in my head to visit on a regular basis and I love it.
Amezing parallal scrolling for a system never designed for scrolling in the first place😁
I can't be the only one who thinks that little vehicle is walking with little feet, right?
Children 90’s: that’s too easy 😅
Children 2000’s-2010’s: how much for the upgrade my vehicle??? 😭
Classic forever , AMAZING Game play

my sister and I used to play this game all the time. Good memories.
This game was awesome.
I played this so much. Used to hear that music in my sleep. I don't think I ever lasted much beyond 6 or 7 minutes though.

do not care about the negative reviews of these suckers do not, atari is nostalgia and I loved your video.
This game is the greatest, I spent so much on it at the arcade.
The music in this game is so cool and memorable
Excelente.

The music in Moon Patrol is controlled by the difficulty switch on the back of the Atari.
@@pinebarrenpatriot8289 yes I know, but my copy still doesn't produce any sound at all! Maybe it's a rare one ahahah! :D
(no, it's just faulty)
Don't forget river raid

I wish I'd known Joust was good, since I loved it at the arcade. The graphics looked minimalist, so I avoided it.
A really good port for the 2600 back in the day. I play the original arcade version on Mame but I still play this one also. Great memories.
I think I read they outsourced it. Maybe that's why everything works so well: graphics, gameplay, sound, music.
I don't think i ever got this far ur pretty good at it still got my Atari and the game still plugged into a TV at my parents house

Show!! Fazíamos fila pra jogar Atari na casa do meus tios. Adorava a trilha sonora!!!
The music from this reminds me of Sierra games Space quest. On a side note Iove playing this at 1.25 speed. Lil moon buggy looks like its walking
Pretty good port - it keeps the original gameplay intact. You can speed up and slow down, and some of the enemies can create hazards in front of you.
Flipping the right difficulty switch allows for 3 speeds instead of 2. Which is also nice.
I cant belive that was our games when we were childrens :))
Just the other day was thinking about Moon Patrol and that background music 😊
One of my fiirst Games i Had have hast AS a child together with soccer Tennis and super Ferrari

Still got a 2600. Found it on a flee market with 16 (!) cartridges :-))
I often played this with my cousins during childhood.
Loved this game when I was a kid, my grandma still has it. So awesome.
How come mine on the 2600 dont play music now???
...eita tempo bom viu .....

Congratulations. Very very very good.
Dude this game is better than alot of nes games. High level stuff and looks like it would stand the test of time
Moon Patrol and Jungle Hunt are the best Atari games
This was the only 2600 game that I wished existed for my SMS or NES.
Man alive, you're good.
It's a pleasure to see someone play a game well. There's so many people making videos who can't play well the game they're recording. Good job!
I remember playing this as a kid. It looks like the Rover is walking, lol. Also, what popular song was this melody taken from?

Pasaba buenos momentos jugandolo.

I remember playing this game as a kid, and not ever being able to finish it. Is there an ending?
I love this song, great memories
This was the sh*t before. Love it. The challenges that we have to surpass.

This was the most expensive and popular game after river raid, ramp, chopper command,

I miss this game
Damn... looks just like the arcade! 😲
Mi sonido favorito de niño
Bro! This is Pitfall was my jam!! 🙌
Thats a groovy bass line right there boys
Did this game ever have an ending? I could only get so far as the second level, IIRC.
I remember that the song took a long time to get started
Was this one of very few Atari games with parallax scrolling?
Jungle Hunt tried it too. Probably outsourced to the same company.
Wow.....a time machine. GREAT game
What emulator did you record this in? I see a bunch of graphical glitches here that I don't see on my real Atari or the Stella emulator.
In my opinión a Besth game of Atari 2600
XD
I guess I burned half of my childhood with this game.
