The Mysterious murder of Flossie Halliday : A Hercule Poirot Investigation

A young naval officer on a train to Plymouth discovered a woman's body hidden under a seat in his compartment. The woman, elegantly dressed and stabbed through the heart, was later identified as Flossie Halliday, the daughter of an American steel magnate, Ebenezer Halliday.
Distressed by his daughter's mysterious death, Mr. Halliday hired detective Hercule Poirot to investigate. Poirot learned from Mr. Halliday that Flossie was supposed to go to a house party but changed her plans last minute, telling her maid to wait for her at Bristol. The maid saw another man in Flossie’s compartment, but couldn't see his face.
The autopsy revealed Flossie was chloroformed before being stabbed, and she had been dead for four hours before being found. Poirot discovered that Flossie’s husband, who was in the middle of a divorce and stood to inherit her wealth, had just returned from abroad, clearing him as a suspect since he wasn’t in the country when she died.
Inspector Japp found a knife along the train route and learned that a large emerald belonging to Flossie was pawned by a known thief. Poirot also found a duplicate of Flossie’s outfit in her maid's room, which made him suspicious of the maid. After questioning, it turned out the maid was involved in Flossie's murder, having set up a false witness to throw off the investigation.
