    Wow, they are stunning. You're going to have quite a show. I know how you feel about the rain. It's the same here, and I'm so tired of it. Will it ever stop ??? I put all my bulbs in pots, too, then change to annuals for the summer. I keep using the same soil, I empty out the pot, mix in a little new stuff, and then when I see growth, I'll add some well rotted horse manure. It's much cheaper this way. Thanks for sharing 😊

      Thanks Kim. I can't wait. Great idea to reuse the same soil by mixing it with manure and I would try but I had some perennials in with my summer annuals and they rooted so well that there was a massive rootball at the bottom of the pots so I had no soil left to reuse. I always add my used compost either to the flower beds or the compost heap depending on how 'rooty' it is because it's so valuable!

    They'll look gorgeous come the Spring. I'm so aware that January/February are tough months and bulbs offer such joy when they appear in the Spring. I've planted tulips mainly in pots this year because the ground has been so wet. And it's so much easier too, saves the back. But I planted April flowering tulips, and overplanted with crocuses and dwarf irises for some even earlier colour. Like you I will transplant into the garden afterwards. In my borders I have Purple Doll, Dolls Minuet, and Ballade together, and elsewhere a selection of Viridiflora, Fosteriana and Darwin varieties which all return well year after year if planted deeply.

    I wouldn't be without my pots of Tulips each year. I'll look out for some of the ones you've shown when I do my order next year.

    I have never grown tulips in pots before. You answered all my questions. Love all your choice of tulips. Bonny

      Fantastic Bonny - so glad I could help. Your weather is probably perfect for tulips! 🌷😁

      Just wondering would they be better kept in a shed or outdoors. Maybe they would get too wet if kept outside because of snow or rain. Still no snow here. Would like to try some next year.@@cottoverdi

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Outdoors. Snow will be fine. It's best to sit the pots on gravel or pot-feet during the wetter months so that the water has somewhere to drain. I keep mine on pallets in the back area of the garden to make sure that they don't become water-logged. I move them to the patio once they start sprouting and look a bit more attractive. hope this helps.

    They will be beautiful! Lovely and dry with you. I think we're keeping the rain here in SW Wales.

      Fingers crossed, thank you! It's been super windy here today but the skies cleared later this afternoon. Hope we at least have a dry Christmas Day.

    Good morning ❤. You have such a good hands-on knowledge of so many different tulip varieties - could you consider in a future video telling us which of them (if any!) in your experience reliably come back each year? I’m desperately trying to simplify my gardening and I’d love to concentrate on planting (in the ground) only the best tulips for repeat performance. As I live quite near to you our ‘zone’ is the same so I’d totally trust your advice/experience.
    Merry Christmas.

      Hi Debs, thank you for the great suggestion - yes, I will certainly look into making that video. This year I specifically planted Fosteriana tulips, and Kaufmanniana tulips in my garden beds because they are known to rebloom reliably. Darwin hybrid tulips are also supposed to do well. We have super heavy clay soil here and so I haven't risked the expenditure before this because I'm worried they'll rot in all our rain. Merry Christmas to you and your family too.

    i wanted to buy 'Menton' this year but I was too late ordering and by the time I got round to sorting my order, they had sold out. I will make sure to buy it next year. Thought I would grow more Darwin types with the hope that they establish and become perennial. Happy gardening 😃x

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that's such a shame, Be - Menton is one of my absolute favourites but it's so tall that I plant it in my beds and save the pots for the shorter varieties. Yes, the Darwins are supposed to establish well 🌷

    Planted Apricot Beauty last year and we loved them so much that I ordered twice the amount for this spring. I've just finished planting them, as well as Elegant Lady, Blue Spectacle, Blue Heaven, Menton, Purple Dream and Don Quixote. Some similarities in colour or shape to your gorgeous selection, thus. I couldn't resist planting a few Queen of the Night, even though I know, by experience, that they don't do well here in Minorca.

      @cottoverdi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooh, Menton is my absolute favourite and I have grown Elegant Lady in previous years - gorgeous. Yes, Queen of the Night was a little dark for me, I prefer the deep mauves or purples. Sounds like Apricot Beauty will be a treasure 🌷Thanks for your insights from Minorca! I bet it's gorgeously sunny - we have gale here today 💨

    Lovely.I planted tulips lasagna about a week ago in the pots. first time ever.I am not sure they ll come out, here in Greece it is a challenge you know....🙂

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow! Greece must be wonderful at this time of year - yes, tulips may struggle if they don't get cold enough. It would be wonderful to know how they do if you have a chance to get back to me. 🌷
