    My name is Claus Dalby, and I live in Risskov on the outskirts of Aarhus in Denmark. To date, I have written about 30 books on flowers and gardens in Danish, and my garden has been featured on many TV shows. In March 2022 my first book in English will be available. I consider my home (built in1908), and its garden with its neighboring wood, as my sanctuary. When I started gardening in 1996, there was just a large lawn covering approximately 1 acre (4,000 square meters), but today the grass is long gone - replaced by 15 hedged rooms with varying colors and moods. Additionally, one of my great passions is growing in pots, arranged to create spectacular container gardens, which I will share quite a bit about on this channel. Decor and creating moods have always interested me - both outside and inside - and I love to use the flowers from my garden for bouquets and to inspire other crafts that create a sense of hygge.

    I tried tulips for the first ime last year. I only had plastic pots and planted about 10. I planted in November and they started to appear really early...in February😐
    And I planted them maybe too close to the top of the pot. I covered the pots with fishing net to keep the squirrels away. They came up beautifully but they were rather early and didn't last more than a month or so. I'm going to go per your instruction this time. Thank you, sir. This video was a joy to behold!!
    Ahhh, I just caught the end and you revealed to me I had planted tulips which were called "Queen of the night"❤

      A good rule of thumb to follow when planting bulbs is to place them at a depth of three times their own height. Enjoy!

      @@nemkini We are aware that the production of tulips and other bulbs has its downsides, but a solution must be found. Maybe we should reduce the use of pesticides and increase the price of bulbs that are not expensive anyway.

    Hi all, I followed his method exactly last year and had a great success rate. I live in zone 7, and placed them under the bench on my covered porch throughout winter. I could have placed them in my unheated garage, but I didn’t want to risk inviting critters there.
    Tip: You may need to cover the pots with chicken wire or plastic sheets if you have squirrels in your area.

      I think he watered too much. It is very important to know your zone. I think he lives in a less harsh winter region. that is why he could do what he did. I live in Zone4 in the US. Last Fall I planted tulips in big pot and kept them outside until 3 weeks after the frost around Christmas time. Then I moved the pot in the garage against the outside wall. In the coldest time during the winter, that spot was 26--28 degrees. I moved the pot out when night temperature was around 30. I got great bloom. I failed many times before last year. The tulips do need a few weeks of below freezing temperature,

    • @pansepot1490
      @pansepot1490 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Few degrees below freezing is not a problem. Usually snow (if it’s a thick layer) acts a a blanket and protects what’s underneath from hard frost.
      Pots should be protected from freezing solid. It depends on your local weather and situation. If the winter is harsh I would keep the pots in a garage, a shed, unheated greenhouse, basement, under a porch or similar. Good luck. 👍

      There are varieties that bloom at different times. If you want long blooming containers, consider planting early blooming, mid season blooming and late blooming. You will get the most impact if you group the same bulbs in a container rather than a mix of bloom times.

    Just found your videos today and absolutely love them! Please can you tell me how you make your potting mix ? I live in Johannesburg South Africa in hot summer rainfall area and cold winters but we only go down to 2°C with warmer sunny days at 15°C will it still be necessary to cover and not water the planted spring bulbs in this climate? Thank you for showing and sharing your beautiful garden.

      Tulips need cold weather to be able to go through their process so they can bloom. I don't think Florida gets cold enough so you would have to put the bulbs in the refrigerator.

    I live in Newfoundland, Canada and I love flowers.The past 5 years I have been experiencing with transplanting from shoots.This year I have done my Tulips in pots because I live in a basement apartment and don't have access to a garden, The weather here is unpredictable and if it gets up to 30 here that is very hot. My tulips are now starting to bulb and its the beginning of june. I have done a double row of them,because I heard they will grow after the first row dies off. Is that true? Can I save the bulbs for next year?

    I am new to gardening and I don't know a lot of things that might be obvious but, do we uncover the pot to give it water during the winter or leave it covered until spring? and also do we cover them during fall or when is the best season to do all this process?

    • @ClausDalbyEnglish
      @ClausDalbyEnglish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You water well before covering your pots to protect them from too much winter wet (the bulbs may rot, if the soil is always wet), and then you begin to,water in the spring, when leaves begin to appear. Good luck!

    I plant everything in pots. I love your garden. I just purchased my tulip bulbs. I’m planting 500 bulbs. What’s the name of the two trees in pots behind you? I thank you for this video and your knowledge. Once I put my bulbs in the pots and water them once. Do I water them again or just cover them with plastic store them in my shed until spring? Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏾

    I tried this last fall with daffodils, some of them grew the stems but no flowers. I left the pot out all winter. I’m in zone 5. I think this year I will try again and put them in the shed. Yours are beautiful. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been waiting for this video😊

    • @karie3
      @karie3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried with daffodils and tulips and most of them rotted. For some reason I was under the impression they would need to be watered throughout the winter. I thought because bulbs in the ground get so much moisture with all the rain and snow, I figured in containers they would need some water too. I am also in zone 5. I will try again this winter and cover them.
