He was told a statement of questionable accuracy that concluded with a yes/no question, leaving him with the choice to address the "journalist" questionable statement and what he tried to infer with it or just answering yes or no to a question that really never was a question on a topic that isn't even a real mainstream debate.

I know this might sound strange but as a 26 year old gay man in Scotland I am of the view that marriage is between a man and a woman, with strong reference, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, the concept of procreation. I remember when I was going through secondary school and I totally fell for this whole ‘we are all the same so should get the same’ nonsense. Thankfully I grew the hell up and acknowledged that no we are not all the same. Heterosexual couples get married, and people like me can have a civil partnership which in the UK offers pretty much the same legal rights and protections as marriage but does not infringe on the sanctity of the concept of marriage. A lot of people here assume that I hate those who oppose same sex marriage but I have absolutely no qualms with anyone who opposes same sex marriage. I think marriage is a specific and sacred ritual that often but not always involves children. That is something worth protecting in my view.

I think same sex marriage is fine so long as everyone is on board, it’s when people use it to silence people on religious grounds that worries me. Honestly, the way it was phrased was super loaded and all that other stuff was worth addressing. The actual question, less so. It's one of those things where if you give a one word answer, people on all sides write essays about what a horrible person you are. Why open that up if people aren't willing to have a real discussion about it? In this case, it's just not a proper venue for a real discussion. Take the opportunity to move on.
I get that we complain about politicians avoiding questions, especially when we really want answers from the other side, but for some things it just isn't the time or the place.

I will answer it for you: I don't support gay marriage, because that is not a marriage at all. A marriage for thousands of years was defined as a union between a man and a woman for the purpose of creating a human family and a nurturing environment for the offspring. A male/male or a female/female union, does not procreate, and therefore it is not a family as it was defined for eons. Unless you want to change the meaning of words that have been established for thousands of years, forcefully, due to a very evil political agenda, using the coercive force of the state and activists to change language, there is no such thing as a gay marriage. Now, I do agree that if the government wants to enable a legal way for those unions to be recognized before the law, that is something that I am neutral about. I do not care. But language matters, and I am not in favor of calling it "gay marriage" as that is an authoritarian imposition over my core values.
