    My grandparents did the same thing. They couldn’t afford to travel for my parents wedding, but they called my dad the night before the wedding to ask him not to marry my mom. Obviously he married her anyway-and they’ve been married for 59 years.

    Considering this you’d think Emily of all people would understand best what Rory was going through with Logan’s family.

    • @KaitoKiara
      @KaitoKiara หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      I am not quite sure, that Emily realized that at the time.
      If I remember correctly they thought Lorelai exaggerated about the Huntzbergers dissing Rory.

    • @frankhui7457
      @frankhui7457 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      well once Emily realized Rory was not exaggerating about Logan's mom, she did confront and eviscerate her. She saw that the she was treating Rory was the same way Richard's mother treated her. Like Lorelei I. Shira Huntsberg tried to hide behind family status and position when in fact she simply didn't like Rory.

      Emily’s family was considered beneath Richard’s family. But that wasn’t so with Rory and Logan. Her lineage was better than Logan’s…. So she assumed there wouldn’t be an issue. But Logan’s family thought they were all that because of their money.

    lol! I always thought Emily played this whole thing wrong. Of COURSE Trix didn’t like her, that was obvious. What Emily should have taken away from this was that (probably) the only time Richard ever told his mother tough deal with it was when it came to her. she should have read that letter, taken 20 min to fume and then giggled and skipped her way up the stairs, back home to her husband and told him thank you for choosing us over your mother. Then giggled as SHE GOT EVERYTHING. Richard was an only child and didn't care about the estate. Emily should have spent the next 20 years selling, donating and shooting with a bebe gun anything of Trix's she wanted to that Richard wouldn't miss. All wrong Emily. She should have taken it for the victory it was.

      Spoiler……… Don’t read farther if you haven’t made it to the part where Rory goes to Yale. But Richard has been “having lunch” with PennyLyn every year since they got married. He doesn’t Emily and she doesn’t tell her husband. And they’ve been doing that that for almost 40 years.

    • @deztheray8935
      @deztheray8935 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Ya I remember seeing this for the first time and thinking it weird at how big of a revelation it was to discover this. I think the part that hit Emily the hardest though is she approved of Pennilyn Lot, the one Emily discovered recently Richard was still having a yearly lunch with behind her back.
      But I agree, she should also talk to Richard about this and how he chose to go through with the wedding anyway and see it as a win. It shows that he did put Emily first in spite of his mother’s wishes

    As entertaining as the dynamics on Gilmore Girls can be, Richard's mother really was inexcusably horrible to Emily. Yes people have stated that Emily is hypocritical since she too can be intimidating, judgmental and critical. However Emily genuinely loves Lorelei and wants to have good relationship with her. Further Lorelei is not afraid push back when Emily makes one of her remarks and their combativeness is part of their normal dynamic. Emily does try to make an effort and we see that they can get along just as much as they fight. Also, we've seen that if someone tries to hurt her daughter, Emily will come in guns blazing.
    Richard's mother had no interest in building a real relationship with Emily. She took every opportunity to demean and bully her for the sake of it, even though Emily had proven to be a good wife & partner to Richard as well as a respected & regarded pillar of their community. The best example of the difference between the 2 women is when after Emily finally accepted Luke and found out he had a daughter, she took it upon herself to try to get to know the girl. She had enough sense and sensitivity to know that April would part of their lives and she should build a relationship with her. Granted the scene was played for laughs with Emily spending time with the wrong girl, but the point is she made the effort. You can't imagine Trix ever doing anything like that.

      @@megmur1766No remember, Emily said it was a carbon copy. So the original letter that Richard got he probably did destroy it since he went on to marry Emily. It was messed up that the mother kept a copy of the letter for all these years but we do know she didn’t like Emily.

      Of course it was because when it's in writing you get just a stabbing sense of how much this woman truly hated you. She endured Emily. She never really loved her. Emily always thought that maybe Trix did have an affection for her but this woman saved a Carbon copy before her death to make sure that her daughter-in-law would have known exactly how much she disliked her.

  • @cortezconquistador
    @cortezconquistador หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    If my mother-in-law treated me like this I wouldn't want anything to do with her and once I would have found that carbon copy letter I would have told my husband I will not be arranging her funeral. Some women are so damn disrespectful and need to know their place. Emily was and is a good woman, wife and mother. She is a better woman than me cause not only would I have not dealt with her disrespect but I wouldn't even have allowed her in my home.

    Why does anyone care so much what anyone else thinks of them? Did Emily not get satisfaction from the fact her husband defied the Gorgon’s wishes and married her anyway? Emily knew the Gorgon hated her. Why be so upset now? Medusa can’t do anything else but be Medusa. She’s dead. Who care what she thought or did.

      Because Emily is clearly a narcissist. She can't understand why granny Lorelei preferred Pennilyn Lott to her. Even Richard cheated on her with Pennilyn (it was an emotional affair, or so the writers want us to believe).
      But if you see how Emily treats her own daughter, the servants/people with less finances than her, and how stuck up and vicious she can become at the drop of a hat, I completely understand why Richard's mom hated her. Lorelei is just giving her daughter in law a taste of her own medicine.

    • @lovefromwonderland
      @lovefromwonderland 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Emily is insecure. She needs the approval of others and she cares what people thinks of her. Even Lorelai, whom she constantly criticizes, she wants a relationship with.

      @beepboop9464 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @Ariana-wv4pf I don't think that's accurate especially with how Richard's mom treated him and others. Richard's mom would also be considered a narcissist based on the exact parameters you listed.

    • @Nipredil
      @Nipredil 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Because Emily was bending over and backwards to make her happy or have a civil relationship and she is not giving her any brake. Emily is a prefectionist. Everything has to be perfect or at least seem perfect about her, her family and the event she is planning. Her only job for her whole life is trying to make her husband look good and keep their social standing (DAR, charity work). Doing this funeral the perfect way is also inculded in that. Trix left very specific instructions and it says a lot about Emily than even after her death she is following it without missing anything.
      If you ever planned anything like this, you know it is crazy amount of work and pushes you on the edge. You spend days going through someone's stuff, trying to treat everything in a respectful way. Once my mother and I had to get rid of around 50 porcelain statues of Jesus and Mary. What do you do? Nobody in the family will want it, we don't want it, but we can't just throw that in that trash. We try to donate it, but of course nobody wants it, we even asked the priest when we asked him to do the funeral if he has an idea what to do and that is just one little thing out of 500 things on your todo list. You call family members and friends to let them know. You literally spend days on the phone having the same conversation with everybody (my condolences, do you remember the time she did this and that?) and you are working close deadlines with caterers and other service providers. You do this for a week and I guarantee you also have breakdown reading something like this.
