    This sport absolutely exploded in Italy, now every city and even small towns have dozens of courts. I tried it this summer and got hooked immediately, such a fun sport

    If you check, when tennis was 'first' played, it was in a 'housing square'and the ball cound bounce off the walls of the houses. So basically back to a semi form of the past.

      Yes. It was originally 'real tennis' and what we know as tennis was originally 'lawn tennis', an offshoot of 'real tennis'. There is a 'real tennis' court at Hampton Court Palace in England.

      Padel is a simplified version of real tennis, which is harder to learn than lawn tennis.

    Any sport with walls is so much more fun. I used to stay at a soccer camp as a kid and one of the facilities had some kind of boxed in court where we’d play soccer tennis off the walls. Very fun

    Padel is like checkers because there is a wall to bail you out. Tennis requires more control and finesse.

      The walls actually add complexity because you can play off the walls with your shots. This is actually far more complex than tennis less athleticism required for sure, but the complexity and number of options available to you is much higher.

    In England in the 70's we sometimes played this in our P,E class. The teacher called it Pada Tennis. I always thought it was a substitute for real sport but I guess if enough money and marketing are put behind it anything is possible.

    I’ve played this and it’s good entertainment and workout. The only thing is that the only strategy is to defend and rebound. Can’t do like tennis like commit to a drop shot or decide a laser ground stroke or a commanding volley. Building a point is based in getting it back no matter what instead of playing strategies and styles

      You can find affordable rackets no problem, and most facilities allow you to rent a racket. Coming from racquetball/squash myself and it is extremely fun.

    I find it strange. The first padel played in my country was 2019...2 years later...all football fields, tennis courts, and other sports switched to padel Court as they have exploded in popularity

    I think characterizing Padel as Chess to Tennis as Checkers is a poor comparison. This sport is more of a mash up of tennis and racquetball. It requires more running and is a very fast pace, which means its slightly more athletic than tennis, but the strategy required is no more complex.

    First time seeing paddle ball, it’s a mix between squash and tennis while pickle ball is a mix of tennis and ping pong… one thing is Pickleball is much cheaper to set up a court vs paddleball walls

      The ball has to touch the floor first and then the walls, after it does you can use the back or side walls on your side to hit back.

      This seems like something i would enjoy, im reasonable enough at squash and tennis, ive seen another game, called paddle ball or pickleball, but it seems like mini tennis, and played with a perforated ball, looks a game more for leisure

    0:33...that gentleman stepped outside the cage to hit the ball. Is that allowed? He was out of the cage..off the court..but he hit the ball and no one called a foul. What's happening here?

    played tennis my whole life. moved to puerto rico for a bit. i picked up beach tennis and got hooked immediately. i have moved back and i am desperate to find this in my city so that i can play this. i gave pickleball a try and so far it's just not the right feel for me. this looks more up my alley.

    It is hard to promote Padel in US. In US, space is not an issue, there are so many tennis courts that could be converted into PB courts. But to make it to Padel courts, the investment is high and the player cost would be too high to compete with PB.

    I still don’t understand why there are 2 openings near the ends of the net. Isn’t the point to have the court fully enclosed, so you can utilize all of the wall?

      Because if the ball goes outside the court, the player from the other team can run outside and still manage to throw the ball from there if it hasnt touched the grown yet. Check the best points from the season (World Padel Tour) and you will see plenty of those!

    It looks like a lot of fun but give me a break. If Tennis is checkers Padel is chess? I've played Tennis, Squash, Pickleball, Table Tennis & Badminton. The pure randomness of this sports is more reminiscent of racquetball than anything else and that's a FAR cry from chess. Sorry!

    I love tennis and love Padel. I play both to a decent standard. Take it from me it’s far harder to win a point at tennis than Padel. Once you have the correct technique it’s easier to play Padel than tennis. In both sports you need to peel the onion before the winner. If anything tennis is more of a chess game than Padel as there is no room for errors.

    i remember playing this ( singles not doubles & without the off the wall shots ) on rainy days in the gym at high school in Australia in the late 70s . benches not nets were used otherwise it was the same .

      @@anthonysab1628 it wasn't actually just indoor tennis - the courts were smaller, the "nets" (just wooden seating benches) were lower they weren't stacked on top of each other they were only single bench height , the "racquets" were wooden (similar to a ping pong / table tennis racquet) , the match was only singles & the scoring was like volleyball .

    So this is what everybody is talking about. I get all the fuzz now. People just gets more fun because the ball keeps on going regardless of the skill level.
    In most other racket sports you have to face the learning curve to get playtime, not with Paddle. This is a good thing actually, same as footsal in Brazil, Brazilians players get so good in no small part because they get so much ball contact time from it bouncing from the walls constantly.

    Forgot to mention Padel is so expensive to play. £30 per hour. Doubles 7.50 each. Tennis £2.00 a week and you can play as often as you like. I played 12 hours last week. Played Padel just once last week and it cost £15 for 90 minutes. Nice to play indoor though

    This game seems like racketball which is alot of fun. I ve played tennis and 4 wall ( ceiling of course ) racketball in my youth and it was absolutely a blast.

    0:26 the ball bounced twice and play continued. At first, I assumed it was a rule that it could. Cursory google search tells me it's not. Ironic that happened directly after the homie said tennis is checkers

    Here is a funfact that must people may don’t know; the name PADEL real meaning in Spanish (Mexican) is an abbreviation of PA’ ADELANTE / PARA ADELANTE which means GO TO THE FRONT (GO FORWARD).

    The cost of a building a court requires that one must pay more than a small amount to play, which is why it will never be as big as pickleball, or even squash or racquetball.

      @@GoProGuyHD It is an expensive sport to play relative to pickleball. Also, pickleball can be played on existing tennis courts, indoors and outdoors. Padel cannot. It is comparable in cost to squash and racquetball, which are already long established sports, mostly for the affluent, and are declining in popularity, I believe, at least in the US.

      Nope dude. I own 3 padel courts here in italy. We paid 25k each and they are top tier steel courts made in spain. You can easily made your own with fiberglas and spend a lot less. You can only rent the court for 90 minutes for 40€. Every court make at least 3.5k each month, so after a year it’s all profit. Here in Italy this sport exploded. So i can easily say that you should invest in this sport because it is really profitable and a lot of fun as well.

    It's PA-del, like paddle, not puh-DELL. From the Spanish "pádel", the accent shows the stress.

    It’s not pickleball. You play padel with a tennis ball and the court has walls you can play the ball off of. Pickleball uses a different ball similar to a whiffle ball and the courts have traditional out of bounds areas like a tennis court.

      Its not new. I played in 3rd category in Argentina 25 years ago. Its hard to find Paddle courts nowadays... so I build my own one at my weekend home, but I've nobody to play it with now. This sport is death, so I went back to tennis. What a fucking shame....

      I play both padel and tennis. If you played tennis in the past, padel would be really easy to learn and get to a decent level. However, it is true that padel is hard to master, like any other sport. It's very fun to play, I recommend everyone to try it.

    Seems very one dimensional- great for entry level players to get moving and exercising and having fun. But please…don’t compare to tennis.
