I'm curious, I've got a BGE, and I've ordered the Joe Jr as a side BBQ, but the shutdown process, wood burns from top down not bottom up, thats why the temp is taking so long to drop on shut down.

Thanks for watching. That is probably part of it, my thought was the ceramic had become entirely heat soaked. Since it needs to be cool to touch before putting the cover back on,

@@idletimebbq I get that :), its terrible when you do a cook late on, it starts to rain and you want to get the cover on but its too hot 😃. Keep up the great channel, I've subscribed, always like to see BBQ content

Burn-in on a ceramic Kamado? I can see seasoning steel smokers to seal the interior. I can also see just building a fire on a new Kamado to get a taste for temp control. A Kamado doesn't need seasoning. Just build your first fire and cook.

Thank you for the comment. My purpose wasn't to season it, mostly to burn off any manufacturing or packing residue. But you are right, having never used a kamado cooker to also get a feel for building and maintaining a fire.

Yes, Kamado Joe calls it seasoning, but that’s not really what I was after when I did it. The KJ smelled terribly for the first 40 min of ‘burn in’ as I’d call it. Lots of oils and dirt from manufacturing and shipping.

Yes. And it had lots of little bits of styrofoam stuck to it. But now that it is burned in, it is working great.

The build quality of that thing seems to be pretty poor?

Thanks for watching the video. I don't think that the build quality is poor, it is a solid grill, and I have been using it for a few months now, and overall like it. There are a few upgrades like a better vent on the top, and ash management system (Ash Can and Charcoal basket) that will improve the experience. Both of those items KJ has upgraded in their later models of the Classic and Big Joe.
