Hard lines Vincent. It's bad crack when catching a Mackerel is a challenge. I've caught them on the fly in Scotland and they're great fighters. I remember in the Isle of Sky about 15 years ago me and my lass were catching Mackerel and some huge Pollack. Then some Basking sharks came. I touched their dorsal fin with the tip of my rod they were that close. Later a load of Minke Whales came in. There were seals and all the birds you could imagine. The water was boiling with life. It was probably the most fun day out fishing I've ever had. Mind you those places you were fishing looked beautiful and it makes a change standing freezing in that spot near the bridge! At least you can be warm when you're not catching and enjoy the weather! We'll all just have to keep trying!

An Irish priest loved to fly fish, it was an obsession of his.
So far this year the weather had been so bad that he hadn't had a chance to get his beloved wadders on and his favourite flies out of their box Strangly though, every Sunday the weather had been good, but of course Sunday is the day he has to go to work.
The weather forcast was good again for the coming Sunday so he called a fellow priest claiming to have lost his voice and be in bed with the flu.
He asked him to take over his sermon.
The fly fishing priest drove fifty miles to a river near the coast so that no one would recognise him.
An angel up in Heaven was keeping watch and saw what the priest was doing.
He told God who agreed that he would do something about it.
With the first cast of his line a huge fish mouth gulped down the fly.
For over an hour the priest ran up and down the river bank fighting the fish.
At the end when he finally landed the monster size fish it turned out to be a world record Salmon.
Confused the angel asked God, "Why did you let him catch that huge fish?
I thought you were going to teach him a lesson." God replied "I did.
Who do you think he's going to tell?"

I'll never forget the look on his face when the line snapped. I'll tell you another story. I was fishing one night down off the pier in monkstown with my friend cod fishing in the depths of winter. There was a man fishing next to us with all the wrong gear my buddy was laughing at him. Did you catch anything my pal asked? No says the man. Its my first time fishing. My buddy had a big container of crabs, peelers and softies and poppers. He found one that was dead for a very long time and it was stinking and i mean stinking. Smell that he says to me. Go Away i said. It was horrendous. Watch this my pal says. He said to the man heres some bait. The man said i was just going home. With his gear ready to go. Have a last cast my pal says to the man. I don't know how to put it on the man said. I'll put it on for you my pal put it on with elastic thread laughing the whole time at the man behind his back and making faces. The man thanked him for the bait and cast it into the water. My pal was hysterical laughing at the man. Look at that fool he will never catch a fish on that bait. My pal couldn't stop laughing at the man. Then the man shouted i have a big fish. His rod was doubled over almost snapping as the man kept turning the handle of the reel. My pal had tears in his eyes with laughter. He has a big load of weed my pal said. The man landed a cod must have been about 8 or 9 pounds. I started laughing at my pals face 😮 he was silent and in shock. The man walked off to his car carrying this monster of a cod wriggling in his grasp saying thanks so much for the bait. That's the first fish i ever caught. The man went off so happy i couldn't stop laughing at my pal. We caught nothing that night as far as I remember.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 i said to my pat that serves you right.😂😂😂😂

It's like getting the six numbers in the lotto catching a mackerel on that day. I remember years ago running around like that with two pals trying to catch mackerel. We caught nothing all day and went on the ferry. The ferry man had two big bags of mackerel. I asked him where he got them. He said as the ferry pulled up onto the pier there was a shoal passing by and got caught on the ferry he said they were hopping every where and he grabbed as many as he could. That was salt into the wounds. 😂

Stick to the fishing Vince, I blame the super trawlers on all the declining fish numbers in recent years. last month we had one off of our shores, I wont eat fish from a can as it funds those big trawlers. they can stay out for a few months catching and then canning everything onboard.
I had a feeling you had carpal tunnel that time watching you, but then thought you were just having me on. Its not nice I get it myself now and then like pins and needles, I first got it 4 years ago I went numb on the right arm I thought it was a stroke initially :) :)

Being brought to court because he has a barb on his hook. It's all just gone mad. I'm sick of it. There was a time the farmers in Ireland would net the salmon and feed them to their pigs. No No my friend said you only use that one on the green. He gave me the other one he had to use. I said i like the putter and decided to use that one for the entire game. Who's winning now I'd ask they both would laugh and i was told i was in last place. I'd lash the ball at the t off with my putter and the lads would roar with laughter. I seemed to be getting the ball into the hole in less shots than the lads were getting theirs in. Who's winning now? I'd ask time and time again. I was last i was told.
