Prefered the collings dynamic range by a mile, i just wish the highs were a TAD less bright..! Makes it a tough decision, but just to be sure I'd probably get the collings at this point
If I was in a guitar shop and they only had these two I would walk out with the SC with confidence. That said I’ve watched a number of SC vs Collings OM videos and the difference is much more subtle to the point it boils down to pure preference. Odd this Collings didn’t show up that way. Maybe Bill took the day off.
Santa Cruz is always going to be a warmer guitar than a Collings. Built lighter. Just two different guitars. It's all preference. I liked the Cruz here much more. Collings sounded weird. Warmer than usual but weak. Either way, Santa Cruz would be it for me between the two, but their prices are absolutely ridiculous at this point and resale isn't good. No thanks
This comment goes for any big name company comparisons on TH-cam. If we’re strictly talking sound here, take the money you’d spend on either of these; search out a real hand built guitar from a real boutique luthier that, these days, can be found all over the map who’s making great sounding guitars. Though still churning out very nice instruments these two companies have become number crunching puncher outers. That said, I desire a vintage guitar from each of these guys, built back when they were hungry boutique builders. To heck with consistent resell values, give me a hand built axe that can sound better than both of these modern machined pieces. Yes, it’s worth the wait in a real luthier’s queue for hand made soul and sound. Martin and Bourgeois also used to know about this many, many years ago.
Their production figures haven't gone up dramatically... Collings has been putting around 1000 acoustics a year for quite a while and the quality is OUTSTANDING. Each and every top is voiced individually like it's always been... I'm not sure you really know what you're talking about. And I love the smaller builders, too. I'm just saying SCGC, Collings, Bourgeois, Huss & Dalton... They're all up there, it's not like Martin and Gibson building 1000 guitars a day.
@@luizfcoimbra82 Re-read what I said, sport. Maybe you’ll see that I do know what I’m talking about, and you just happen to disagree. So what. I like Collings and other big “small”guitar companies, but they use CNC machines for speed and other cost/time cutting methods to keep up with demand. Though they make consistently great instruments, they won’t have the same hand built soul of smaller boutique builders who build most every part with a kind of skill that can’t be matched by machines. I’ve built a few guitars so I know more than the typical buyer/player; who is truly clueless. If ya still don’t get it, ask Wayne Henderson, Ken Hooper, Randy Woods, Preston Thompson, Rufus Thames, Don Wilson(RIP), Mark Grisham, Wes and Ben at PreWar guitars and many many others. Better materials, better sound and more heart. Anything else you, or anyone like you, have to add will just be another factless opinion and not credible enough for further replies from me.
Here comes the sun, i enjoy this song every time
SC all day! Wow, it's not even close. So much warmer.
Collings with the clarity and sustain for the win. Plus I'm not going to badmouth my own guitar😂😂😂
Both are great guitars. Different flavors, but both sound lovely.
Both lovely guitars, but I would take the Santa. It’s much more balanced. Actually one of the best guitars money can buy.
Both instruments are top class
Collings IMHO. The notes were more articulate to me and very balanced.
I have the Collings, and i loved the SC in this video. maybe cause im obsessed saving just cause now i want one. No honestly i prefered it.

Both great guitar of course but I prefer the Collings! More balance sound

OM/PW by a country mile.

Collings. MUCH wider dynamic range. The SC had great bass, but lacked the high end.
0:10 1:36
I’m surprised how much I prefer the Collings in this video.
So is this California versus Texas?
Both great maybe the bass on the Santa Cruz is more to my taste ,tough

Collings. SC was not as clear. Both are incredible though.
Collings by a wide margin. The SC was too bass heavy and was not as articulate and refined.
U simply dont select one from these grade guitars. You buy them both 😄😃
I prefer the sc, seems to have more soul. But I bet I could find plenty soul in the collings.
I prefer Collings
Collings OM2H balance, deep so they win :)
looks like the Santa Cruz has Adirondack top .
description says sitka
Very close call

collings has better articulation
