For titles on vlogs (esp. Travel) consider titles that are less location based and more activity/challenge/wow-factor based. We came into problems when people would watch our videos for a location and then not come back for other locations. Location based can often feel like a "home video". But titles and thinking of videos as a story about fun activities/challenges/ exciting experiences can help people get in the headspace to make it more for the viewer than themselves.
I like putting highlights at the beginning of my videos to show what’s coming up. I definitely got some good tips from this video though! ❤ thank you as always!
I was really curious about doing this. Does it not spoil or set wrong expectations? Do you have any data that shows its effectiveness? Please share with me if you don’t mind.
@@CalvinCarloI am wondering this too. I personally click out of a video faster when they do this, because I feel like I’ve already watched the video. What do you do?
@@MorganLeighOnYT It seems to depend on the video. I think on low end video’s that are slow-paced or where you are unsure if people will be able to watch until the highlight, you can show the highlights and build up to it. Like leaving out some essentials. To increase curiosity possibly. To make sure early on you can prove that your promised thumbnail or title is worth it and this video is for them? I’m really thinking a lot about how to correctly use it and when not.
I really appreciate that you make these videos about vlogs specifically. Most are usually geared towards people who do sit down videos or educational and I just don’t know how to relate it to vloging so thanks. Am still a beginner vlogger and so i love this.
Just filmed my first “week in life” vlog and really enjoyed making it! I wanna move more into vlogs with talking head segments rather than the entire video being talking head :) Loved the examples you included in this video!
I have watched MANY of your videos and I just wanted to say - I love the way you manage to relay your message naturally, but also succinctly. Which is super hard to do right. Thank you for doing the work to make it your content so pleasant and so easy to digest AND implement (which is another super hard thing to get right).🙌
This is a great video Katie! 🙂 I personally love the examples that you shared to explain your points 🙏🏽 those were very helpful for me to see. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for this 🙏🏽
Thank you for posting this content, everything about vlogs! My business industry (handmade business) is more inclined to vlogging rather than how-tos to attract the “right” audience. Just want to say I appreciate all your vlogging-how-to content ❤
Amazing video Katie, really useful tips to apply to the next vlogs! I love how you fit in the Florence Italy Experience into the Venice video - Genius! I sometimes struggle to get a good thumbnail, how do you go about this?
THANK YOUUU - your videos are truly so helpful. i just recently started over on TH-cam + feel like these tips are gonna help so much as far as structuring upcoming videos.. super reassuring and inspiring. 😊
I love how informational you are, I've been trying to get better with every video but sometimes our vlogs just suck. LOL. Anyone who's feeling like a failure, don't give up, it takes time and effort, but it will be worth it for sure!
Hi Katie. Thanks for the video. It was super informative for me. I’ve got a question though. Didn’t you say the subscription for Storyblocs was a one time payment? I followed your link i only see monthly subscriptions.
Did you see this woman in nyc who posted 1 video and got 100k views and 8k subs, with just this one video, she came up to my feed and the title was about starting youtube at 38 etc, I guess relatable to most...
i loved your video in italy where you were teaching a social media class and i loved when you did you social media tips from your van too. i think those were great examples of you incorporating both. it made learning more fun ❤
One of my “problems” is that my whole footage could qualify as B-roll. I’m still too shy in front of the camera. I think I nailed my first vlog but can’t quite get it again
Great ideas! I've long wanted to tell our family's story about living in Mexico and watching videos such as this one are really helping me learn and gain confidence. Thanks!
You record a lot in the van...do you process the audio somehow so there's not so much echo? I once recorded in a bathroom and the audio sounded terrible🛠🛠
Just avoid the overhead lights. Make it moody with a lamp. Or get an umbrella light or an LED light with a plastic bag over it to help distill the light 😅 best of luck! I am just starting here on YT and I’m loving it but I need to practice more 😅
I don't do vlog style content, but, after years of struggling to grow, I think my intros are the problem. I can spend as much as two minutes overexplaining and going off on side tangents, and I think I've essentially killed a lot of otherwise good videos with my initial rants. Keeping my intros to thirty seconds is a good rule of thumb, and I hope I see a difference. I've had the feeling, after improving in other areas and seeing little difference in views, that I was missing something obvious...and you've identified that for me. I need to shorten those intros!
Thanks Katie I find it so hard to know how to grow doing a vlog channel - my views on videos are all over the place! I’ve picked up some tips I’ll try out 😊
🤯 I love this! I’m planning to start a channel in Q1 and already know the thumbnail and what I want the hook to be for my first video/vlog (relocating). This confirms I’m on the right track 🥹 Thank you.
Haven't done a vlog yet Katie and have asked my viewers/subscribers in a poll if they would be interested in a vlog but there hasn't been enough interest so didn't make it because I don't want the vlog to not get views.
Did you have to get your pilot license for your drone shots? I know that you can’t make money off of your drone shots if you don’t have it and so I have been hesitant to put my drone shops on the web. I’m not monetized yet, but I want to know if I need to really worry about it, I want to get my license. I just don’t know if I’m letting that stop me from posting.
I like to shoot my vlogs with "Intent" anytime I inspire someone to create vlogs, I always tell them to "Be Intentional" I modeled my channel after this one channel called camera conspiracies.... it's the only channel where I like the videos before I even watch them!!
And I like to do a lot of stuff but only my footage its not a good quality and still depends the people, you dont want you to see you, and its a hard work to do to upload videos, never thought to activate my youtube channel never used it before and I like to share, so its a big step to do 😁😁😁
Your podcast helped me so much I can’t even begin to thank you!! 🥺My family is relying on my income from my fitness business I launched through instagram. I have Been listening to your podcast religiously since I launched my busines. I was about to hit 6000 and getting ready to launch my nutrition app and now I’m afraid I’m going to have to start over 😭😭is there anything I can do to get my Instagram back?? Has this happened to you??
Kudos Katie. I'm 66 yo and just beginning my YT vlog journey. Your videos are so very helpful. Thank you.

yours is the best the How to TH-cam channel ever! Thank you for helping me so much. I’ve really struggled with the story telling aspect.
I was LITERALLY just thinking this! Love this channel so much! ❤❤
story telling is one of the challenging part
thank you for this video bc i feel like a lot of youtube gurus talk about sit down content and not vlogs!
I love how you explain things ❤, maybe other youtubers say similar things but you say it in a way I understand and doesnt confuse me
I just posted my first vlog and your videos have been so helpful in how I approached it. Thank you so much and keep these kinds of videos coming!

Your information and advice is sooo valuable
Just went and subbed to Katie and Dan in a van! When did they remove the “other channels” tab?
One of my “problems” is that my whole footage could qualify as B-roll. I’m still too shy in front of the camera. I think I nailed my first vlog but can’t quite get it again
Thank you for this! I’m really into vlogging right now and am going to incorporate your tips!
Great ideas! I've long wanted to tell our family's story about living in Mexico and watching videos such as this one are really helping me learn and gain confidence. Thanks!
Such valuable information. And well presented/very digestible. Thank you!
New subscriber! You have some great information that I haven't found anywhere else. Thank you ❤
You record a lot in the van...do you process the audio somehow so there's not so much echo? I once recorded in a bathroom and the audio sounded terrible🛠🛠
Thank you so much for your videos, the lighting in my house is terrible so I’m looking for a light to use for my videos, any suggestions please?

Glad to see new content from you!
Hi Katie, just discovered your channel. Thank you for the good tips. I'm gonna try these for my new cooking channel😊
🤯 I love this! I’m planning to start a channel in Q1 and already know the thumbnail and what I want the hook to be for my first video/vlog (relocating). This confirms I’m on the right track 🥹 Thank you.
yes that's perfect! it's great to start thinking about these things before you even start filming 🙌
your videos have helped me with my vlog channel so much :) thanks girl!
Is the story blocks link a free trial or just standard subscription? Because I only see paid subscriptions and no trial in your link
Thanks Katie! My vlogs do fairly well on my channel but I’ll be incorporating these tips now to take them to the next level 🙌🏽
Thanks Katie for this helpful video! Definitely will start incorporating these on to my channel!💗
Thanks so much, great tips!
Just starting over from scratch. I have some ideas and this definitely helped! ❤
Awesome as always. ❤
Excited about this video!
hi how are you
I rename all my thing. I probably would’ve called my van Vangy if I had one. This is too cute
Nice work ❤🎉
Thanks fo the advice perfect timing for me to know about these !
Awesome tips, it is a lot to remember but I am trying little by little.
So helpful! Thank you 🫶🏻

Hi, Katie thank you so much for this video from a new vlogger in South Africa❤
Writing scripts and trying to stick to it has been my biggest struggle... MIND BLOWN
Great intros are so hard and sooo essential
Great tips!
Great video! ✨
This was great! Thank you!!
Excited❤
Thankyou for this video! I definitely need to make the start of my videos more hooking 😅
What kind of computer do you use to edit your videos?
I definitely need to start making my intros after the video is done, I think I get a little caught up in the whole thing having to be chronological 😭
You got this, @ChantelleArts! Good luck with your intros! ❤️
Thank you x
I have just started youtube, thanks for the fantastic tips!
Another great video! I need to follow couple of points mentioned in our video! 🙈
I need to work on being intentional with my videos and making sure it’s not basic.
😊🎉❤Hi Katie, thank you for teaching us about vlogging 😊, ❤❤❤🙏.
Great info!
Nice vlog 👌 👍 I watching from bhutan 🇧🇹
Thanks from Barcelona. Mine is a Comedy Channel and I can use all the tips there are !. ( And more)🎉

Me 9:29 😂❤
I mean, we used to be showing our real lives. Like 10 years ago. But that's correct, nothing on TH-cam is real life any more. LOL!
OMG I used to watch you a million years ago! Back in the TH-cam Mama days 😂

I think im getting better at making content. It's just discouraging when it gets no views or engagement.
Me watching while filming a vlog lol 😅
I would go for NO INTRO if it is ALWAYS THE SAME. It's boring and people skip! If each video has its own intro then it is interesting.
😭 'Promosm'
❤I love your tips. Thank you 🙏 by the way I’m from Toronto too 🇨🇦 I’m trying to increase my subscribers I hope this can work 🙏
