I wonder if those comments Bill and Elizabeth mentioned were from viewers who have not watched their humble videos of where there TH-cam journey started. When they lived in that little trailer they showed how kind and grateful their hearts are for all they have, despite their circumstances. You often see God’s blessings upon those who faithfully follow Him.

It's not your place, or anyone else's for that matter, to tell them what they should, or how they should do it. Jealousy is a terrible thing. I understand they're trying to lead by example, but people with negative things to say, shouldn't say anything at all. They surely don't have to explain to any of these people either, but that's their choice if they feel the need to. God Bless them. I appreciate their channel and both of them as well. We are not offended by negative comments about our finances or buying two houses. We just figure these people do not understand the debt-free lifestyle, and how you can actually do MORE in the long run by NOT using debt. So we are not trying to explain or justify our lifestyle or our financial decisions. One of the main topics of our channel is debt-freedom: How to get out of debt and stay out of debt. So we explain our finances in an effort to TEACH others how to become debt free. And the best way to do that is by example. So that’s why we reveal details about our finances, in an effort to show what is POSSIBLE when you live debt free!

  • @kibblenbits

I've been debt free for years. Retired in 2019, at 68, and have never earned more that 45k a year in my life. I owned 2 homes, the home I lived in, and the rural one I bought (paid cash), years ago, to be my retirement home (in the same state). I sold what had been my primary home, after I retired. I'm not a minmalist either. To me, living simple mean's that my income is not gone by the time I get paid, being able to put money in savings, every month for future emergencies, having investments, and not stressing over anything. BTW, you could get some Rustoleum farm tractor paint, that can be applied with a roller, and make your little car cute again, for very little money.

@kibblenbits I just saw that video on YT where they painted their van with that tractor rustoleum paint with a small roller. My hubby said that's what we should do, with our over thirty year old beater as Elizabeth called hers, lol we call ours a hoopty as per Dave Ramsey's definition of old paid for cars. We have two that are very old and paid for. One a bit nicer than the other. The other one has been hit twice at no fault of our own, and definitely doesn't reflect our driving skills. That's the one my husband said we should paint lol since it looks the worst with the dings and all. I love the looks we get driving into our crime watch neighborhood, I'm surprised someone hasn't complained it'll bring down the value of their house lol (insert eye roll here) it surely hasn't brought down our house value, that's for sure.

@@commentater4448, people said the same thing when I was first starting out, too. My first apartment wasn't big, and it didn't have a lot of bells and whistles. Most of my furnishings were used items, and I learned to live on what I earned and always put some by. I focused on meeting my needs and not my greeds, as I heard one radio preacher say. I learned to save up for things, and for the first two years walked everywhere until I could get enough money together to buy a car. It wasn't always glamorous or easy, and I worked with some people who spent everything they earned and then some on geegaws and then complained they couldn't pay their rent.
It really is all about priorities. All those little things I did or all those stupid purchases I didn't make meant I wasn't drilling holes in my financial ship. Did I always get it right? Nope. But the good spending habits I learned and exercised paid handsomely down the line.
More than once we knew people who'd think we had gobs of money or who were openly jealous of what we had. Every single one of them lived in households that earned more than we did. But, they managed their money differently from how we did. They didn't believe it, but it was the truth.

One of the 10 commandments is not to covet what your neighbor has. People guilting y'all because you've been wise with your income & resources so that you can live as you do sounds like coveting. So does saying it's "not fair" for you to have two homes when others don't have even one. Your wisdom, diligence & faithful walk in the Lord’s will has brought you your success & lifestyle. I'm happy for y'all & thankful that you're able to live as you choose. And as someone with multiple autoimmune diseases, I also struggle more when the weather changes, so I totally understand needing a home where you can be more comfortable & feel healthier as seasons change. Thank you for sharing your journey & your wisdom with us. I hope the naysayers will look into your instruction on how to live more debt free so they can potentially reap the benefits y'all have. I wanted it all my life but alas, my spouse believed in living on debt, so now, late in life, I am debt-free and the load of STRESS is so much less now. Taxes remain the stress-inducing factor. BTW you can never get out of debt - there is always unfortunate debt of taxes.

There is a big difference between debt and ongoing expenses. Debt is something that can be paid off, and you usually take on voluntarily. (Except Medical debt.) Ongoing expenses (utilities, insurance, taxes) you have no choice about, They reoccur every month or every year, and you can never get them “ paid off,” only “ paid up” until next month.

While I was working, I started an Annuity and now that I can't work anymore because my health has deteriorated, I 'm living simple and free!! I don't have money to spend on trivial things, but I can pay my bills without worrying. What you teach about living simple and living free, works even for the low income, if they learn how to manage their money instead of spending more than they earn.👍👍 Thank you for always sharing with us your blessings!! With selling our big house we were able to pay everything off (our land, our new RV, our big house) we had bought this retirement land, nearly 17 acres in 2006 and I paid on it those 8 years while still working. After we paid everything off we still had enough money left to build our own retirement home, just materials because my husband was a builder. It's a good thing to be debt free in retirement for us because we live on Social Security only. I was an RN and he worked for himself always so no pensions.

@@LiveSimpleLiveFree I understand where you are coming from because you are both such kind people. My husband and I are also debt free and live a very peaceful life. I’m afraid that so many folks don’t understand that being in debt for “things”, vacations, luxuries- is not worth the anxiety that the things create. I’m not talking about cars and mortgages for people who haven’t been established long enough to achieve financial freedom. I remember a long time ago when I worked in retail (it was my second job-my day job was teaching), a couple who lived in our neighborhood and had just put in a pool came in to make some purchases. Their card was declined because it was maxed out, so they pulled out another card and used it. I had wondered how people about our age, with kids, who lived in our neighborhood, could afford the lifestyle they lived. Well, I found out that day.

This comment is for the criticizers. I want you to know I have been watching this show for years and I saw how badly Elizabeth was struggeling to breathe in the cold weather. Her health problem could have become deadly had they not moved to Florida. Also, years ago, they were forced to give up their 2 story home and move into practically what I would consider to be a camper. They lived in that camper for several years, but like they said, they needed more room for pop. The moral of the story is...Things happen. Needs change. So please do not be hard on Bill and Elizabeth. They are good people.

I own my own home, have a 2007 Honda fit car. With Gods help ,I've had money saved for things like new roof, furnace, central air, windows
Yard work, snow removal... Over my lifetime, after my divorce, I had to save. No vacations outside of ontario.

This was such a great video. I find so many people use a card that is not paid in full every month to buy something that is on sale. They haven't saved anything on that item because they are paying interest on the card. Some people want to buy a house that is the size their parents have now....not with the size their parents started out with.
Elizabeth, I am so glad y'all found this lovely house and were able to move to Florida for your health. That has been a real Blessing as we all can see. Bill, I hope you are feeling back to normal after your emergency surgery...well as much as you can be after any surgery, never quite the same. Until next time, y'all have a Blessed day. BTW Elizabeth, that sweater is a perfect color for you...very becoming indeed.

We are not "justifying" anything! One of the things we teach on the channel is debt freedom. And the best way to teach that is by example. We were able to buy a second home BECAUSE we have been debt free for years and could save every month toward a second home instead of wasting money on debt payments. The best way to teach is to lead by example. That's what this video is all about.

@@LiveSimpleLiveFree I watched it and understood what the video is about. My point wasn’t a criticism, but a simple remark that we all live our lives uniquely and you don’t need to explain why you have two homes. We have had two homes for decades…while not mortgage free yet, we believe and try to work on the same principles of debt free living. It frees us up. We are typical debt free except when we move. It usually takes us two years to adjust after a move. Our goal is to have our home paid in full before retirement… we are stinking close. Next year one is paid off. We plan to sell the other when we retire. Much like your small mortgage you took out when you got your first home after the tiny house. You have the freedom to choose to spend your money… it is yours and you are not chained to the debt master. You don’t really have to explain why you have two homes… unless you want. You do because you can and it is within your means. Congratulations.

You and your wife at at your golden age, you have worked all your life to get to this point, you paid your dues. You were smart with your savings, we don't have a right to bestow our lives with yours. Just because we were not smart and did not save, doesn't give us the right to judge your lifestyle. More power to you that you and your wife did it the right way. Did we forget when you sacrifice when you lived in that tiny little trailer, We as a Society have always judged people by our means. My advice to you is live your life, and ignore the negative comments.. I am soo happy for the example you have set, it's up to us to chose our paths. I’ve watched you since you were in the tiny home and I have never felt like you were sending mixed messages, especially now with having two homes, in two different states. I know, just by following your channel, that a lot of thoughts & prayers went into every step taken. God has blessed you immensely…don’t let a few people force you into trying to justify the blessings you have received. When I was first starting on my debt free plan, I watched your financial series and was able to apply the principles taught and yes, they worked. I was watching a lot of different budget/debt videos, reading articles & books, trying different ideas. It was a little crazy, but I started paying off my debt and because of what I learned, I was able to purchase my forever home (my first home purchase ever…and I retired 2 months later!). Over time, I got lazy, a little sidetracked and I allowed life to get in the way. While watching the financial series the first time, my debt plan had me paying off my debt in June 2025. But this was without my mortgage I now realize I need to go back and watch them again. Keep up the terrific work that you are both doing!! God bless you both!

Bill and Elizabeth, I appreciate everything you said in this video. Like you, there was a time in my life when I was in a large financial hole. I had made poor buying choices and was of the mentality that if I could pay my monthly bills, the balances I owed didn't matter. It took me a long time to learn the lessons regarding wants versus needs but I'm happy to say I'm one who is now living debt free. The relief I feel from being free from financial worries is indescribable! I learned a long time ago that is it truly possible to live abundantly AND to be debt free! I am so grateful and blessed to be in this position. Blessings to you and your entire family, always.

You don't owe anyone an explanation for your choices. The critical people obviously haven't watched your videos from you living in the tiny house. You've earned what you've got now and it's thoroughly deserved. The naysayers need to wind their necks in ! Anyway, it's always a joy to watch your videos. Blessings to you both.

We are not offended by negative comments about our finances or buying two houses. We figure these people just don’t understand the debt-free lifestyle, and how you can actually do MORE in the long run by NOT using debt.
