  • This is an abstract presentation recorded for the Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority's (IHACPA) Activity Based Funding Conference 2022, which was held virtually from 5 to 6 May 2022.
    About this abstract
This paper reviews trends and variations in private rehabilitation activity as seen by an Australian health insurer. With recent shifts towards rehabilitation at home and value-based funding, this is an ideal opportunity to consider ways to improve variation in Length of Stay (LOS), utilisation, rehabilitation setting and outcomes across various hospitals in Australia.
We present a case study where we incentivise better patient outcomes through a value-based funding model. We also discuss challenges associated with introducing value-based rehabilitation models in Australia. Identifying potential pain-points such as access to data and appropriate assessment tools, will create an appropriate environment to reduce variation in rehabilitation activity while improving outcomes.
