I used to buy presents for all my relatives, the countless hours spent scurrying around the mall trying to buy things for people that have everything! And for what? To be forgotten, returned or thrown away? A few years ago, we made a mutual agreement to not exchange gifts anymore and instead focus on food and fellowship. No one misses the presents at all, and the holidays are so much more enjoyable now!
Similar here. Ever since Covid-19 I just started buying wine. Literally just get wine bags at dollar stores & fill each one with inexpensive wines. Works well because it doesn't depreciate, it's easily re-giftable if a person doesn't want it, & if I'm invited to someone's party as a surprise it's just so easy to grab one & say "oh, look what I got you".
My mom asked my husband what he wanted for Christmas. He didn’t have an answer. Guess who wants to return his gift for something else? If you knew what you wanted, why didn’t you tell her?!?
if they ask for gift cards. i hate getting gift cards because i get anxiety and feel like i have to spend it on something for ‘the household’. if you give me a gift though its stress free for me as long as its something on or adjacent to my list.
@misterfunnybones Believe me I never let a gift card go to waste. I'd tell people ahead of time if they were going to get me a gift card for either Christmas or my birthday what stores to get them from. Maybe a prepaid Visa debit card would be a better option since you can use it anywhere.
Just don't give or accept anything. It's pretty simple and people get used to it very quickly. We started this years ago and everyone was fine with it - less junk for them and less money/time spent shopping. KISS - keep it simple, silly.
I got a gift from Target that still had the tag on it and I didn’t have the receipt. They let me return it by showing my ID. They put the refund on a gift card.
Returns are not shocking, considering more people shop online and unable to see items or try things on, etc. This is further exacerbated by the over consumerism that currently exists/ Influencers pretending to buy gigantic hauls to show off/influencers convincing people to buy crap they don't need.
I find it quite sad how people go through so much trouble to buy a gift for someone they love and the individual goes and returns it because they don't like it or want it but just want the money instead , people shouldn't spend any money on individuals who will end up taking the gift back to the store because that shows that they don't care about how much time and effort you put into getting the gift for them.
I never knew this was even a thing. Because I never seen it in my household growing up. It must be a new age thing I'm guessing that started a few years ago.

This is just sad and pathetic. It shows how we just waste so much money. I can say I've probably never returned anything, I just never felt right about it.
Don’t people ask their family and kids what is on their wish list, or Santa letter, or circle exact item in the flyer? I buy everyone and my kids exactly what they want. Like I knew the exact gaming pc monitor he wanted and he got it for Xmas.
People still give gifts? That's so last century. Stop shopping, save the planet and take a stand against consumerism. Fifteen plus years ago we let everyone know we were not buying or giving anyone gifts and no one was to buy us or give us anything. I think it was a huge relief for everyone and we didn't care what anyone thought about us (and, no, we're not poor. I just think gifts and shopping ruin any holidays). We don't even send cards (who needs to when you have email?).
I don't like the concept of giving money - it feels impersonal. However, if you don't know much about a person and would like to offer a gift, $15 cash in a greeting card is acceptable.
Seriously. STOP BUYING STUFF. Save your money!
They are probably unwanted gifts.
We’re in the worst economy ever tho 🙄
I wish people would just admit they like being bigots.
coupon at CVS at least, Buy what you already need for a deep discount.

This is why you should think before you buy.
buy only what u need .
Most are Gifts
Amazon does returns at retail stores to get people to shop. I returned an Amazon item at a Kohls and was given a $10 store voucher.
Me too and it took a month to get the credit.
We have an Amazon return at staples. It was so easy
All they gave me was a coupon for an item I never use.
This is why we shouldn't buy so much stuff..
just give them money simple
Most are probably gifts.
Returns after Christmas isn't a new thing. It has been like this for decades.
This!! Anyone who has ever worked retail knows the first day after Christmas into the first week of the New Year.. returns! Returns… returns.
My mom asked my husband what he wanted for Christmas. He didn’t have an answer. Guess who wants to return his gift for something else? If you knew what you wanted, why didn’t you tell her?!?
Or just don't get him anything?
At least your mom was nice enough to ask what ur hubby wanted lol he lowkey sounds ungrateful smh
Give people gift cards as presents. That way the recipient can buy what they want or need..... not junk that has to be returned.
if they ask for gift cards. i hate getting gift cards because i get anxiety and feel like i have to spend it on something for ‘the household’. if you give me a gift though its stress free for me as long as its something on or adjacent to my list.
Gift cards are limited to certain stores, get lost, fail to be used. They're a retailer's dream. Redemption rates are never 100%.

just cash, dude. this is america. money is king. money is the best gift.
I got a gift from Target that still had the tag on it and I didn’t have the receipt. They let me return it by showing my ID. They put the refund on a gift card.
I wish there’d create a holiday that you do what you want to do, rather than what you have to do. That would be unique.
George? Festivus?
New years day. It's a federal holiday so you're off work, but there's absolutely no events or traditions to deal with.
Like the purge???

Amazon allows returns at UPS, Whole Foods, Kohls, Amazon Lockers.
Wait you could return stuff to an Amazon locker? Does it have to be in the original packaging, with labels and all?
The lines would be much shorter if people stop "being nice" forcing themselves to buy gifts and also lying about liking the gift they received
But why should someone keep something they don't want in their home?
I never knew this was even a thing. Because I never seen it in my household growing up. It must be a new age thing I'm guessing that started a few years ago.
It's so wasteful to the environment to keep something you don't need.
Solution: GIFT CARDS!!! Just let them buy whatever they want depending on how much you decided to gift them. Less of a hassle.
Why do you feel the need to force someone to keep something they don't want? Would you rather see it end up in landfill?
They say this every year.
like every 4th of July, they always do the same BBQ Saftey tips
Stop buying unnecessary stuff for people who don’t need it!
Weird flex using footage of Canadians doing Boxing Day shopping to spin this story ...
Yeah that first wife mall shot was the Eaton Centre, wasn’t it?
It because there desperate for people to come back to the mall.
Toronto Eaton Centre in intro. Nice
In the thumbnail, too! That’s why I clicked on the video! 😬
I wonder why

I bought only 2 items this year. That way no returns or headaches
Don’t buy people stuff they don’t need!!!
This is why I make my gifts 😂 theres no point in stressing over gift giving they’ll never be content 😂 with whatever you want to gift them
What about the x mas trees being returned?
People only want cash and not things. You bought the gifts because you wanted to buy what you liked. That’s the reality folks.
None of this is news. What a waste of time.

Right. And people supposedly voted Trump because they can't afford anything.

I would be too embarrassed to ask for a refund, I would rather give the thing away.
