T.J. Maxx has been the spot since the 90s. A lot of people thought they were too good to shop there... until they pockets got low. Now, hopefully, they don't get greedy and start raising their prices 💯
That's exactly what's gonna happen. People were "too good" to be seen in thrift stores until those got popular. When those got popular, thrift stores starting raising their prices.
Now all the once cheap thrift furniture is expensive bc ppl paint it and sell on FB marketplace as a vintage piece for hundreds to thousands of dollars
inflation, the dollar is weaker also...so things are made cheaper which also means the materials are inferior which means that $500 cofee machine was $200 a decade ago
This is fact. Many times products are made specifically for the outlet stores. Places like TJ Max may get last years unsold merch, but many of the designer outlet stores sell products that were made for the sole purpose of being sold at their outlet, making the consumer think they’re getting a deal, when in reality, they aren’t.
I was never too good to shop at TJ and Marshall’s. Even as a kid I remember finding Polo’s and other name brand items for nearly half the retail price. Back then I needed the deals. As an adult, I actually go to TJX stores first and still find good deals all the time.
The bigger picture though is that poor people "need" Polo because they want to have a certain image. If they cared less about that and more about other things that could benefit them, they could become wealthy.
what's wrong with buying clothes and things at lower prices? Marshall's has def changed their selection. TJX was the best store for brand names imo since the 90 s like the original comment. 😊 hope u hv a nice day@@K4R3N
TJ Maxx also has an advantage over outlets: convenience. Consumers no longer have to drive an hour to an outlet, they can get similar goods for the same price albeit a much smaller selection. To make up the difference, consumers just have to visit the TJ Maxx stores more often, exactly what TJX wanted 😅
When i was in elementary school, i told kids TJ Maxx started as Mexican company called Tijuana to the Maximum. And everyone believed me. It's not true. But it seemed right to a 8 year old. 😂
Agree the mens section sucks. Its the same stuff with 50 million different colors. Way better clothes at places like h&m or forever21 for men. Only homegoods is fun but it doesnt feel that cheap
I have literally seen the same Calvin Klein dress on Macy’s selling floor for full price and found the same dress at TJMaxx for half the price the same day. 😂
Always remember the best bargain of any sale is not buying unnecessary goods. I don't understand how people buy so much really. It just shows how much the experts have no idea about the consumer. Variety! Different styles, brands all different in one, not super large store for a reasonable price, yet still a fair quality. That sounds like an obvious recipe for success to me.
The makeup 💄 brands and pricing at TJ Maxx are insane. I can go to Sephora or Ulta and spend $60-$120 for an item….or I can go to TJ Maxx and look around for those same brands for $12-$24 an item.
Most of the clothing sold in this type of store, are made to sell there. They have a brand name, but not the brand quality. In some instances, they license the use of brand names, and put those brand names on lower quality merchandise. If you are impressed with brand names, go for it !
That’s exactly my skepticism. Outlet malls are products from companies that are made SPECIFICALLY for outlets-lower quality (but still decent, but not the same). It’s not overflow. I’d love some side by side comparisons- let’s look at stitching, thread count, exact cuts, types of zippers etc. yeah it LOOKS the same but is it really? I don’t buy it.
There are so many of these kind of stores around my neighborhood lol, we have Burlingtons, Ross, DDs, Marshall's, Nordstrom Rack, so many choices, but i can never find my sizes lol.
I know why because most people buy it all. I found New Balance sweat pants got 4 pairs. Still have like 2 pairs left in my room. Now just imagine all the people that got there before us did the same. I am not finding anything in my size recently unless go when it opens.
Nobody in the USA, Canada, Europe really needs more clothes. It is an obsession and waste of money to buy new clothes every week, or even every year. My favorite shirt that I still wear came from a drift store in Costa Rica 12 years ago. The best $3 deal ever.
I'm 75 and I've never been in a TJ Max store, never been in a Kohl's. It doesn't come as a surprise to me because I signed and wrote 45 cards myself to her on our fiftieth anniversary upon advice from my middle son but they're still a real treat to receive.
So they're just doing what Ross does but with better organization and marketing, wow. Also be aware that brands like CK and RL make lower-tier products specifically for outlets and places like Macy's/TJ, so that "steep discount" isn't what you think it is. Example: Normal Ralph Lauren jeans might run $160, but the ones at TJ "on-sale" for $50 are actually made for a $80 retail price point. So it's not 70% off, it's 40% off something that is inferior in material/construction/fit/etc. Just my 2c, but it seems like there is no true "hack" and you're getting what you pay for
With this said, if you want a pair of pajamas that you don't mind getting crappy after 6 washes because it never leaves the house, a commodity item like a water bottle, or high-wear items like socks, TJ Maxx it up!
Actually TJ MaXX clothes are rejects from the what ever brand let’s just Ralph they sell the jeans for 49.99 cause maybe the stitching is off it’s something wrong with it

I’ve been shopping at Marshall’s, Ross, & TJ-Maxx for YEARS. All you newcomers go back to your highend retail chains. Let us keep our Denim & Flower, Cactus Man, Ralph Lauren, etc.
For their Canadian operations, Marshall's, is here but Home Goods is know as Home Sense and TJ Maxx is Winners and they are killing it up here 🚹🚺❤them!
Funny thing is, this mistake made it through a video editor, and the person doing voice over. Assuming at least 1 or 2 layers of review, 3-4 different people missed this/just went along with the mistake!!
2:18 “ they have turned discount shopping from an embarrassment to a batch of honor” I find that hilarious. So to assume “discount shopping” was an embarrassment itself is wrong, because that’s making an assumption that people try not to save money is wrong. And if you disagree with me, ask yourself, why a LOT of items in your home is made in China.
Sometimes those “steep discounts” seem fabricated. Many times, the retail tag appears to be unreasonably higher than the TJ Max tag in order to create an exorbitant price difference.
I’ve had luck finding clerks further marking down merchandise, finding items or asking them to scan items I’ve already put in my cart, then printing the new bar code and price, or they explain that is as low a price as they have in their system. Good luck finding a cooperative clerk on markdown day.
I use my credit card "points" to get a tjx gift card... and buy some random stuff. I got my luggage and frying pans there, and sometimes clothes I don't actually have occasion to wear. Most of the time I don't bother to shop for clothes because nothing fits but at tjx sometimes it does. The shoulders aren't too wide that's the main thing and sleeves to long. then pants is difficult too
Price is everything. TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Old Navy and of course MACY'S are the great choices for smart shoppers. Macy's is more successful as they offer 30 days return policy. Buying branded colognes require special caution except directly from the vendor. It's a multimillion business therefore, more open to counterfeits.
I dont know - it may be "discount" if its a designer brand but a designer purse is still gonna cost $200+ at TJ Maxx and ive never been a fan of shopping there.
And if the item is really bad (no good for sale in the USA), it's send to one of canadian stores (Winners, Marshalls or HomeSense), poor Canadians(as myself) will buy any american junk for high price ! Too sad, reporter didn't say a word about it !
I've shopped at TJMaxx for years, where have the rest of you been? That said, I do think their clothing quality has gone down but that has happened across the board in retail in general. I don't even look anymore, but I've found some great deals on home goods, handbags and jewelry.
Tj maxx has been raising its prices and having more “made for “ outlet style items lately. Coach bags same price as the outlets. Estée Lauder creams bought for for $35, now they’re $85, might as well go to the department store and get my gift with purchase at these prices. Calvin Klein polos I used to get for work are now just $5 off retail. Shame
Tj maxx, ross, are reject stores, their clothes come from high end stores tho. So i dont know why and hiw people think they were to good to shoo there when it came from high end stores
Winners was independent before TJX bought it. Winners has brand recognition in Canada, TJ Maxx doesn’t so Winners is staying. Also, Winners is different from TJ Maxx. The men’s sections are way bigger at Winners, and there is a men’s shoe department at Winners (not at TJ Maxx). There’s also a bigger jewelry department at Winners.
I prefer Cato cause of there nice plus size section although it cost more. Stores like marshalls and tj max has very little plus size section with frumpy granny clothes.

Me from halfway across the world: TJ MAX? PJ MASK???
Knowledge supports growth.
TJ Max helped my swag in HS so much 😂
Wealthy people shop more at these places than Macy’s or Sax Fifth Avenue.
Interesting video! Don’t forget to iron your shirt bro, the light blue stands out a lot
I dont know - it may be "discount" if its a designer brand but a designer purse is still gonna cost $200+ at TJ Maxx and ive never been a fan of shopping there.
I only get my bath and body products from them online. Great for perfume finds too.
Home goods are great. I also like their luggage. Got some great deals.
TJ Maxx is expensive in Poland, barely distinguishable from normal stores. I suppose US is different.
Almost similar here in Munich. It's just a bit discounted.
Inflation has not gone down fake news cnbc other than that good video . Groceries are ridiculous
There is NO obsession with TJ Maxx and other merger.
8:03 Q2 2025? Are we predicting the future now?
Tj maxx has been raising its prices and having more “made for “ outlet style items lately. Coach bags same price as the outlets. Estée Lauder creams bought for for $35, now they’re $85, might as well go to the department store and get my gift with purchase at these prices. Calvin Klein polos I used to get for work are now just $5 off retail. Shame
I've been shopping at Ross since elementary school
Tj maxx, ross, are reject stores, their clothes come from high end stores tho. So i dont know why and hiw people think they were to good to shoo there when it came from high end stores
TJMaxx worker here. All we really care about is selling the stupid credit card.
For some reason in Canada TJMAXX is Winners and Homegoods is homesense
Winners was independent before TJX bought it. Winners has brand recognition in Canada, TJ Maxx doesn’t so Winners is staying. Also, Winners is different from TJ Maxx. The men’s sections are way bigger at Winners, and there is a men’s shoe department at Winners (not at TJ Maxx). There’s also a bigger jewelry department at Winners.
I went to home sense which is owned by tj Maxx and it's great. I got pants from good brands at discount
I prefer Cato cause of there nice plus size section although it cost more. Stores like marshalls and tj max has very little plus size section with frumpy granny clothes.
Ernie Hermann is a wonderful philanthropist!
You said it yourself. You're in NY. Shopping and fashion is a million trillion times better. Come to a TJ Maxx that's not a major fashion city and see what you find. Or don't.
Facts if you not a small to a large your out of luck
