While Jim Johnston will forever be a wrestling music legend, I think that CFO$ will forever be underrated. They put out some bangers that def rebel only wish they could recreate.
When you consider they were only around for about 7 years, CFO$ put together an absurd list of themes that arguably rivals Johnston's resume (Johnston had some *really* bad songs besides the classics).

"Head of The Table" has final boss vibes, "Tredeci" shouts "most beautiful woman in WWE" (too bad they changed it again to something that sounds identical to Eva Marie's music), and "Visionary" is perfect for Rollins and gives the crowd something to sing along with as well (although the music before that, i believe called Messiah, was WAY too similar to Bayley's, even if it did fit the gimmick). The Way also had choral vocals and felt out of place for all except Candice LeRae.

I love RK-BRO's entrance music. I know it is just a mashup of Riddle and Randy Orton's song but it sounds way better than what it would sound like on paper.
It's really difficult to combine 2 theme songs let alone from 2 completely different gimmicks and somehow make it work, regardless if it was a mashup it was executed really well.

Jim Johnston was a key component in all our fav wrestlers from the 80's-2000s. CFO's were a key component in a lot of the New Era's Main Stars. There is a void in wrestling without their core theme song to make them a character.
The best way to see the problem is to go back to any Royal Rumble from the Attitude or Ruthless eras. As soon as you hear anyones music, from The Rock to Brock, from Austin to Cena, even mid-carders like Jericho in 99' and Carlito in 07' have such clear and defined themes that the second they come on you know whos there. I kid you not today during the Draft I heard the street profits music when they got drafted, then less than 5 minutes later it was their match coming up and the music hit again and I legit was going "Wait whos music is that again, is it Lashleys or the SP's or someone elses".
What bugs me the most is no one has a distinguished theme. That no one knows whos coming out by theme alone. Except say Seth Rollins. Austin, Rock, Edge, Mysterio, The Miz, all have some beat or bit that you immediately know whos coming out so you pop with excitement. Now all of them sound like high produced nothing. That years from now this generic nothing isn't gonna be played at a hall of fame for example.
Eh, I literally confused Seth Rollins Messiah theme, Roman Reigns Tribal theme, Bayley role model theme AND Carmella's chorus thingy... had NO idea which one of them gonna appear lol. Now they changed half of them.
As a music producer , i agree the quality of the music in terms of musical storytelling has dwindled. While the new themes sound way more fresh in terms of audio engineering , the basis of the music itself has not been the same. I think the music needs some new inspiration.
7:18 Man you can’t say a bad thing about Gryson Wallers theme. For sure, his first one was better but the current one is hooking af as well. The same applies to Carmello Hayes themes and dude Cameron Grimes‘s Stack‘in Money theme is the best WWE made theme since AJ Styles one! Even though the main roster themes are getting worse and worser, the recent NXT themes from Stars like Bron Brakker, Grayson Waller, Carmello Hayes, Cameron Grimes, Nathan Frazer, Diamond Mine, Joe Gacy, Tony D'Angelo, Santos Escobar, Wes Lee, Alba Fyre, Io Shirai, Cora Jade, Kayden Carter, Tiffany Straton are pretty good.

I think the reason why is because they don’t want wrestlers to use their music on different promotions like cm punk did when he left for aew but I’m not 100% sure.
No, Vince has just always hated paying royalties for entrance music. He thinks if the wrestler can get themselves over, they should easily be able to get the song over too because it's not *that* important. The flipside was Paul Heyman letting anybody use licensed music in ECW without paying for it, because he figured it was unlikely lawyers for Metallica or Nirvana would see ECW & if they did, & sued over it, it'd be good publicity for ECW's edginess.
Music made me care even changing it mattered. I remember Triple H switching from The Game, Line In The Sand and to Kings of Kings. Those songs tell you everything about what's going on. Triple H during storylines would play around and the songs would tell you that this time around you not just fighting The Game, you're going against the King of Kings.
I agree with everything except with the Theory part, the song does suit the brash and cocky swagger he has and gives off the "I'm the shit, I am that guy" kind of vibe Theory has. The only thing that Austin Theory needs to tone down or even ditch altogether is the selfie schtick, it ruins the aura and intensity he brings otherwise.
I am totally agreeing with HHH. Nowadays wrestlers are not looking good too. Those days will not come back, the days during triple H, shawn Michaels, gold berg, Scott steiner, undertaker, cena, myseterio, Edge nobody can replace them.

This speaks my mind. I hate the fact that WWE theme songs sound too generic and sample now. The theme song are critically important to make up the character and gimmick. I miss the time when hearing only one to three first notes of the theme song, I can recognize who is coming. Now they all sound the same, all character has lack of individual and trademark. This seems more focused on main roster themes because if you look at NXT, there’s some bangers. Joe Gacy’s “On The Otherside”, Carmelo Hayes’ “The Greatest”, Legado Del Fantasma’s “Soul March” (prob the best one tbh especially with the crowd chanting Legado), Cameron Grimes’ “Stackin Money”, and to a lesser but still decent extent, Cora Jade’s “Twisted Generation” (She’s so dumb was better)

Hey at least Rheas new theme sounds absolutely badass, hell probably better then her last one. It seriously has that ruthless aggression area vibe to it with some of the more modern elements of themes in it. Tells ya they have some idea of her being one of the top woman, she definitely deserves it cause she's pretty much the only girl on the roster that can give off that serious pressense like one of the boys can. Can't wait till it fully releases.

when def rebel first entered the scene they made a great first impression IMO, mostly in NXT, io shirai's heel theme represented her unhinged erratic nature, damian priest first theme was BEAUTIFUL, it had the perfect balance of intimidation and awe just like his name, damian which sounds like demon, and priest which is almost opposite to a demon. hell even kayten carters theme was a banger and gave off a "beast" vibe. bobby lashleys theme titan is good too, all the brass in that song commands a very important feeling presence like a raging elephant. seth rollins messiah song fit his gimmick perfectly. but somewhere along the way def rebel really fell off. they started making songs that did not have meaning or were boring songs. they only really doubled down when it came to making songs for big names, example: seth rollins, roman reigns. CFO at least made songs that gave off the same vibes as the character: drew mcintyre's bagpipes, seth rollins burn it down like his burning determination(as a face anyways). the fiend's twisted version of his previous song fit sooooo well because his gimmick was taking revenge on everyone who had done him wrong.
Says a lot that pretty much all of the best main roster themes aren’t produced by the current people. Hell, Edge, Cody and Judgment Day don’t even use songs produced in house at all On that note, when did wrestlers stop being allowed to use actual bands for their themes? If WWE can shell out for The Weeknd to be the Wrestlemania theme three years running they can probably pay for an upcoming rock band or something for a theme song
The only song that i heard constantly is The Other Side, created by Alter Bridge used by Edge (on his heel persona), i don't know why Finn, Damián and Rhea (as the Judgement Day is still use it). I hope that he came back soon using the same song on his face character.

I’ve been a fan of WWF/E entrance music since the late 80’s, I became a “themer” (entrance music collector) over 20 years ago, and I have to agree. The music was best during the Jimmy Hart & Jim Johnston eras. CFO$ gets a bad rap for NOT being Jim Johnston, and much of their stuff is looped to hell, but they did make some good ones. Def rebel’s output does tend to be incredibly generic, where you could have wrestlers switch themes and no one could tell the difference. Their music, to me, sounds like it’s made on the cheap, and many of the instrument samples are reused between songs. IMO, it’s a reflection of the state of popular music today: slickly produced but no bite and easily forgettable.
I rember when WWE ensured each and every wrestler, even jobbeds, had some great entrance musics, even getting some licensed tracks from the likes of Rob Zombie, Motorhead, Limp Bizkit, Killswitch Engage, heck even the Insane Clown Posse. Add on top of titantrons that were some well edited hype packages and you had a reason to watch all the entrances. Nowadays, it's just some generic soundcloud rapper type beat or royalty free song they found lying around on the web, and titantrons just being the wrestler's name with some sort of slight editing.
Honestly, Happy Corbin's theme is really not that bad, it was good to see a change for his character, especially the whole stint with them being homeless
I get where TheGreatOne is coming from. He is so passionate. I could feel it through the screen. But some of these new themes DO work for the characters. When you hear the "Game Machine sound", you KNOW Happy Corbin is walking out. When you hear that DRUM get HIT, you KNOW you're about to see SETH, FREAKIN, ROLLINNNNNNS! When you hear that chick whisper "A Town...Down", you know THEORY is about to cash in his briefcase on Roman/Brock!
WWE doesn't care anymore. The only way to make them change is by stopping watching its product. pyro, stages, pro-wrestlers, and music was replaced with nothing, the same stage, non-wrestlers, and bullshit.
Don’t forget titantron, the other thing besides music that makes the presentation of the wrestler feel like a star. They don’t give a damn about the pro wrestling or the wrestlers so of course they got rid of that and just completely indecipherable generic graphics for the wrestlers instead of a compilation of their best in ring moments.
Already ahead of y'all, I stopped watching after Kofi Kingston lost the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar in 2019. I just didn't care, since it was just a set up for Family Jewels 2019... As for everything else, I agree: everything sounds generic now, I can't tell Austin Theory and Damian Priest apart when I hear them in the same sentence, because I don't know who the f they are, why the f I should care, and why are they here? Who's Damian Priest? He's a guy. That's all I know. Who's Austin Theory? HE'S A GUY. THAT'S ALL I KNOW. What kind of people are they? What do they want? Are they getting it? Are they gonna get it? Do they care? As recently as 2019, this stuff was present. Not in high quantity, but it was there. All I know now is Cody Rhodes is back to WWE, and is injured again. Now I have no interest in ANYTHING ELSE that ANYONE ELSE in the WEE-WEE E does. Cody Rhodes was interesting. I don't even recognize Miz, Seth Rollins, or Roman Reigns. Randy Orton, Alexa Bliss and Ronda Rousey are still around? Didn't know that. Edge is back? Didn't know that. It seems like people show up, and they exist. People that once mattered (Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley), made waves (Edge, Rey Mysterio), drove the show forward (Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, The Miz), just exist now. Goddamn, I sound like a film critic. Holy fuck. I just need a reason to care. That was Cody Rhodes, but now I don't even care. Everything seems to blend together, and it exists. That's all wrestlers do in WWE. AEW, with the exception of Chris Jericho and the inner circle, Cody Rhodes, Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley, has always had that problem. Outside of everyone I mentioned, I tried to give the rest a chance, and found myself unconcerned about them. I even stopped caring about Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, and I don't even know where Jon Moxley is... Side note, Chris Jericho got skinny again, I knew he could. I don't know where the rest of the inner circle is, and Cody Rhodes is in WWE. Neither one has star power, and neither one has the intentions to make it.

This reminds me of another problem. Can we also mention how everyone’s titantron movie is just “Name.” In 2K22 I couldn’t use any of them for my character because they were all just giant images of other wrestlers names.
Remember when wrestlers had that distinct sound at the start of their song and you immediately knew who it was? Stone Cold's glass shatter, Mysterio's "Booyaka", RVD's guitar rift, Triple H's, Bret Hart, and I could go on and on. That is really lacking these days. The song just starts randomly now.
WWE songs are so generic that at WrestleMania after Austin Theory knocked out McAfee and they played his music, Vince got shocked like someone else was coming out. Keep in mind, he’s the future of the company and Vince didn’t even recognize it.

I dont really keep up to date, I buy the games every second year or so, once they go on deep discount, but something I've definetley noticed is the music is garbage now. going back to spotify, I noticed a trend with almost all of the best music, from the 1990s even up until really, not that long ago, 2019 ish. All the good stuff was either CFO or Jim Johnston.

When WWE 2k22 came out I legit couldn't recognize half of the cast entering... the changes some of my absolute fav songs from Ember Moon to Gargano to... generic rock, and those are gone now too, and we have even genericker themes now. It all started when Bayley heel turn got a (good) choral theme, and they decided than EVERYONE from Roman to Seth to Carmella (not anymore, shame her was the best one) whoever else gets a chorus... Their instrumental music is worse and sounds like "fight theme #3"... God I miss CFOs.

Jim Johnston was a key component in all our fav wrestlers from the 80's-2000s. CFO's were a key component in a lot of the New Era's Main Stars. There is a void in wrestling without their core theme song to make them a character.

The best way to see the problem is to go back to any Royal Rumble from the Attitude or Ruthless eras. As soon as you hear anyones music, from The Rock to Brock, from Austin to Cena, even mid-carders like Jericho in 99' and Carlito in 07' have such clear and defined themes that the second they come on you know whos there.
I kid you not today during the Draft I heard the street profits music when they got drafted, then less than 5 minutes later it was their match coming up and the music hit again and I legit was going "Wait whos music is that again, is it Lashleys or the SP's or someone elses".
What bugs me the most is no one has a distinguished theme. That no one knows whos coming out by theme alone. Except say Seth Rollins. Austin, Rock, Edge, Mysterio, The Miz, all have some beat or bit that you immediately know whos coming out so you pop with excitement. Now all of them sound like high produced nothing. That years from now this generic nothing isn't gonna be played at a hall of fame for example.
Eh, I literally confused Seth Rollins Messiah theme, Roman Reigns Tribal theme, Bayley role model theme AND Carmella's chorus thingy... had NO idea which one of them gonna appear lol. Now they changed half of them.

As a music producer , i agree the quality of the music in terms of musical storytelling has dwindled. While the new themes sound way more fresh in terms of audio engineering , the basis of the music itself has not been the same. I think the music needs some new inspiration.

Even though the main roster themes are getting worse and worser, the recent NXT themes from Stars like Bron Brakker, Grayson Waller, Carmello Hayes, Cameron Grimes, Nathan Frazer, Diamond Mine, Joe Gacy, Tony D'Angelo, Santos Escobar, Wes Lee, Alba Fyre, Io Shirai, Cora Jade, Kayden Carter, Tiffany Straton are pretty good.

I think the reason why is because they don’t want wrestlers to use their music on different promotions like cm punk did when he left for aew but I’m not 100% sure.
No, Vince has just always hated paying royalties for entrance music. He thinks if the wrestler can get themselves over, they should easily be able to get the song over too because it's not *that* important.
The flipside was Paul Heyman letting anybody use licensed music in ECW without paying for it, because he figured it was unlikely lawyers for Metallica or Nirvana would see ECW & if they did, & sued over it, it'd be good publicity for ECW's edginess.

Music made me care even changing it mattered. I remember Triple H switching from The Game, Line In The Sand and to Kings of Kings. Those songs tell you everything about what's going on. Triple H during storylines would play around and the songs would tell you that this time around you not just fighting The Game, you're going against the King of Kings.

I agree with everything except with the Theory part, the song does suit the brash and cocky swagger he has and gives off the "I'm the shit, I am that guy" kind of vibe Theory has.
The only thing that Austin Theory needs to tone down or even ditch altogether is the selfie schtick, it ruins the aura and intensity he brings otherwise.

This speaks my mind. I hate the fact that WWE theme songs sound too generic and sample now. The theme song are critically important to make up the character and gimmick. I miss the time when hearing only one to three first notes of the theme song, I can recognize who is coming.

This seems more focused on main roster themes because if you look at NXT, there’s some bangers. Joe Gacy’s “On The Otherside”, Carmelo Hayes’ “The Greatest”, Legado Del Fantasma’s “Soul March” (prob the best one tbh especially with the crowd chanting Legado), Cameron Grimes’ “Stackin Money”, and to a lesser but still decent extent, Cora Jade’s “Twisted Generation” (She’s so dumb was better)
Undertaker, Orton, Edge, Punk, Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, HBK, Kane, Triple H, Batista, Chris Jericho they all have Iconic themes...

Hey at least Rheas new theme sounds absolutely badass, hell probably better then her last one. It seriously has that ruthless aggression area vibe to it with some of the more modern elements of themes in it. Tells ya they have some idea of her being one of the top woman, she definitely deserves it cause she's pretty much the only girl on the roster that can give off that serious pressense like one of the boys can. Can't wait till it fully releases.

when def rebel first entered the scene they made a great first impression IMO, mostly in NXT, io shirai's heel theme represented her unhinged erratic nature, damian priest first theme was BEAUTIFUL, it had the perfect balance of intimidation and awe just like his name, damian which sounds like demon, and priest which is almost opposite to a demon. hell even kayten carters theme was a banger and gave off a "beast" vibe. bobby lashleys theme titan is good too, all the brass in that song commands a very important feeling presence like a raging elephant. seth rollins messiah song fit his gimmick perfectly. but somewhere along the way def rebel really fell off. they started making songs that did not have meaning or were boring songs. they only really doubled down when it came to making songs for big names, example: seth rollins, roman reigns.
CFO at least made songs that gave off the same vibes as the character: drew mcintyre's bagpipes, seth rollins burn it down like his burning determination(as a face anyways). the fiend's twisted version of his previous song fit sooooo well because his gimmick was taking revenge on everyone who had done him wrong.

On that note, when did wrestlers stop being allowed to use actual bands for their themes? If WWE can shell out for The Weeknd to be the Wrestlemania theme three years running they can probably pay for an upcoming rock band or something for a theme song
The only song that i heard constantly is The Other Side, created by Alter Bridge used by Edge (on his heel persona), i don't know why Finn, Damián and Rhea (as the Judgement Day is still use it). I hope that he came back soon using the same song on his face character.

I’ve been a fan of WWF/E entrance music since the late 80’s, I became a “themer” (entrance music collector) over 20 years ago, and I have to agree. The music was best during the Jimmy Hart & Jim Johnston eras. CFO$ gets a bad rap for NOT being Jim Johnston, and much of their stuff is looped to hell, but they did make some good ones. Def rebel’s output does tend to be incredibly generic, where you could have wrestlers switch themes and no one could tell the difference. Their music, to me, sounds like it’s made on the cheap, and many of the instrument samples are reused between songs. IMO, it’s a reflection of the state of popular music today: slickly produced but no bite and easily forgettable.

I rember when WWE ensured each and every wrestler, even jobbeds, had some great entrance musics, even getting some licensed tracks from the likes of Rob Zombie, Motorhead, Limp Bizkit, Killswitch Engage, heck even the Insane Clown Posse. Add on top of titantrons that were some well edited hype packages and you had a reason to watch all the entrances.
Nowadays, it's just some generic soundcloud rapper type beat or royalty free song they found lying around on the web, and titantrons just being the wrestler's name with some sort of slight editing.

I get where TheGreatOne is coming from. He is so passionate. I could feel it through the screen. But some of these new themes DO work for the characters. When you hear the "Game Machine sound", you KNOW Happy Corbin is walking out. When you hear that DRUM get HIT, you KNOW you're about to see SETH, FREAKIN, ROLLINNNNNNS! When you hear that chick whisper "A Town...Down", you know THEORY is about to cash in his briefcase on Roman/Brock!

WWE doesn't care anymore. The only way to make them change is by stopping watching its product. pyro, stages, pro-wrestlers, and music was replaced with nothing, the same stage, non-wrestlers, and bullshit.
Don’t forget titantron, the other thing besides music that makes the presentation of the wrestler feel like a star. They don’t give a damn about the pro wrestling or the wrestlers so of course they got rid of that and just completely indecipherable generic graphics for the wrestlers instead of a compilation of their best in ring moments.

As for everything else, I agree: everything sounds generic now, I can't tell Austin Theory and Damian Priest apart when I hear them in the same sentence, because I don't know who the f they are, why the f I should care, and why are they here? Who's Damian Priest? He's a guy. That's all I know. Who's Austin Theory? HE'S A GUY. THAT'S ALL I KNOW. What kind of people are they? What do they want? Are they getting it? Are they gonna get it? Do they care?
As recently as 2019, this stuff was present. Not in high quantity, but it was there. All I know now is Cody Rhodes is back to WWE, and is injured again. Now I have no interest in ANYTHING ELSE that ANYONE ELSE in the WEE-WEE E does. Cody Rhodes was interesting. I don't even recognize Miz, Seth Rollins, or Roman Reigns. Randy Orton, Alexa Bliss and Ronda Rousey are still around? Didn't know that. Edge is back? Didn't know that.
It seems like people show up, and they exist. People that once mattered (Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley), made waves (Edge, Rey Mysterio), drove the show forward (Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, The Miz), just exist now. Goddamn, I sound like a film critic. Holy fuck. I just need a reason to care. That was Cody Rhodes, but now I don't even care. Everything seems to blend together, and it exists. That's all wrestlers do in WWE. AEW, with the exception of Chris Jericho and the inner circle, Cody Rhodes, Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley, has always had that problem. Outside of everyone I mentioned, I tried to give the rest a chance, and found myself unconcerned about them. I even stopped caring about Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, and I don't even know where Jon Moxley is... Side note, Chris Jericho got skinny again, I knew he could. I don't know where the rest of the inner circle is, and Cody Rhodes is in WWE.
Neither one has star power, and neither one has the intentions to make it.

Remember when wrestlers had that distinct sound at the start of their song and you immediately knew who it was? Stone Cold's glass shatter, Mysterio's "Booyaka", RVD's guitar rift, Triple H's, Bret Hart, and I could go on and on. That is really lacking these days. The song just starts randomly now.

Back then WWE music seemed so bad ass. Like, we couldn't wait until it was monday night just to listen to "heeeeeey, nothin' you can saaayyy", right? These days music in WWE seem to be made so superficialy, doesn't have the magic as it used to have.
The most striking was during the RR when wrestlers come to the ring but you don't know who it is because all the musics sound the same.
I miss the old day of wrestling I have to say when CM punk left in 2014 that's when wrestling went trash I'm not a CM punk fan but I just have to say that I do like CM punk though but he's not my favorite Superstar I just missed the golden days where wrestling had good storylines also wrestling didn't look scripted back in the day wish we can get that old day back and I wish wrestlers did not get fired of her stupid stuff like how they fire Braun strowman that was stupid same thing with Bray Wyatt and all of them other people need to bring them Superstars back

When WWE 2k22 came out I legit couldn't recognize half of the cast entering... the changes some of my absolute fav songs from Ember Moon to Gargano to... generic rock, and those are gone now too, and we have even genericker themes now. It all started when Bayley heel turn got a (good) choral theme, and they decided than EVERYONE from Roman to Seth to Carmella (not anymore, shame her was the best one) whoever else gets a chorus... Their instrumental music is worse and sounds like "fight theme #3"... God I miss CFOs.
