Don't Say Velcro

- Our Velcro Brand Companies legal team decided to clear a few things up about using the VELCRO® trademark correctly - because they’re lawyers and that’s what they do. When you use “velcro” as a noun or a verb (e.g., velcro shoes), you diminish the importance of our brand and our lawyers lose their insert fastening sound. So please, do not say “velcro shoes” (or “velcro wallet” or “velcro gloves”) - we repeat “velcro” is not a noun or a verb. VELCRO® is our brand. #dontsayvelcro

I didn't know Hook and Loop was even a company. They sure make make good velcro tough.
I didn't even know Velcro was an actual brand till now.
Whoever you hired for this social media campaign did a great job. Fantastic
This is genius. Who says lawyers can't be funny! Laughed so hard I had to wipe away the tears with a kleenex.
This video is clearly meant to be humorous and tongue-in-cheek. Nobody at Velcro thinks this video is going to change people's vocabulary.
Personally, I like to use 3M brand Velcro.
I saw this really late at night and thought it might have been a dream
Cant wait to teach my kids that velcro is now called "F***ing Hoop & Loop!"
Hook and Loop.
Since I have used velcro as a verb and as a noun for the past 50 years, that train has long left the station.
One of the measures of a company success is to have there brand being used as a verb.
And that something you can google!
I love VELCRO® Brand hook and loop.
Funny video but I'm still gonna call it velcro lmfao
Cmon, Numeroid. Our legal team sang their hearts out for you.
"The sneaker heads will be like
"Ahhh he got the hook and loop"
Sorry guys. Doesn't work.
This is hilarious. I had to check to be sure, but I'll tell my customers we sell Velcro brand hook & loop. Or just Velcro for short.
I'm gonna clean my ears with a Q-tip and then I need to Xerox these documents.
I'm still going to call it Velcro. And if that makes you cry, grab a Kleenex.
Now where did I put my Vaseline...?
This video straight up made me cry for some reason. Like "this is a hook and loop" kicked in and I sobbed.
You know, it sounds more like they want to set up a legal precedent for retain a trademark despite use. Just so you don't have to fight every action to keep your trademark.
That's just glorious. Thanks for the link, Reddit.
Not sure why everyone is so butt hurt. This is a clever and creative video with a hilarious message. I dig it.
0% chance of "hook and loop" taking off, but a damn catchy song nonetheless.
Yalls sense of humor has really put me in a bind when I'm placing orders with Uline now.
Do people actually call bleach products Clorox? I've not heard it personally as common for bleach. The others? Sure
You are only *just now* making an effort to keep people from using Velcro as a generic word? Probably a little too late.
did they beep out "Rollerblading" in the skating & dating part ?
"Hook and loop" - 3 syllables
"Velcro" - 2 syllables
Sorry, sticking with what's easier to say.
yeah good luck with that. talk to Xerox
ok this was hilarious well done, from now on if i see it i'm saying " that fucking hook and loop"
Honestly you should called yourselves "Hook and Loop" so that you won't have to worry about that stuff
Dang. Velcro Lawyers harmonizing something fierce at 1:44
Did you know "Dumpster" is a brand name?
Apparently people on TH-cam are very bad at recognizing joke videos and picking up on when messages are tongue-in-cheek. How can you watch this and think Velcro is doing it in earnest?!
It's funny I haven't seen Hoover make sarcastic youtube videos.
velcro sounds better
should call it ssrrcccctttccchhhh one word and its the sound it makes
That hook & loop chorus is pretty fucking catchy
Had to grab a Kleenex after watching that.
i love this. go viral already. you earned it.
My Velcro didn't hold up now I have to get some Kleenex and Clorox to clean the spill and probably use some Germ X after.
This is amazing! More name brands need to be like this!
It is like Band-Aid too
I found this hilarious lol
Unsuccessful.... but still very funny
Haven’t heard of Clorox being used generically they should of done if you are playing with your dog at the park this is a flying disk and not a frisbee
The Wii game Wii Sports Resorts even paid royalties to Wham-O to use the word Frisbee in there game because of how popular it is
Why am I repeating this one for a week..
This is pure delightful genius at its best. Hook and Loop it is.
Fantastic! The folks who make Kleenex brand tissues, Sanka brand coffee, Q-Tip brand swabs, Xerox brand copiers, Jeep brand SUV's, etc., etc., etc., should be bowing before your altar.
Very funny! Who'll be next, I wonder? In the UK people still frequently call the "dust sucking upper machine" a " hoover" no matter who makes it.
Sorry guys, but you are *far* too late with this video re-brand attempt to call the product 'hook & loop'. According to the English Oxford dictionary, 'Velcro' is a noun & a verb: ‘the doctor Velcroed the top of Badri's nightgown together’. Never mind that the inventor George De Mestral gave the name Velcro, a portmanteau of the French words velour ("velvet") and crochet ("hook"), to his *invention* as well as his company. Blame him for getting poor trademark advice early on.
This is legendary.
this was actually fun
This song's hook is catchy! lol
Ok so wtf is up with this INSANE 90s NOSTALGIA CRAZE and NO ONE has brought back blading or even talked about it? MAKE AMERICA SKATE AGAIN
from the same people who brought you the yo yo and the slinky
Surprised the NASA bit/myth wasn’t mentioned, but hilarious video. Loved it. :)
I actually love this! and the song is so catchy!
I am here because of CNN....love the video. Nicely done.
What if lawyers from companies all over just tried to get trademark laws changed to reflect the way that information spreads and adapts in a society with social media?
Think it was bad before the internet?
That was perfect. :3
This is so great
Not only will I continue to call it velcro, but this song has further persuaded me to purchase non Velcro branded velcro.
Internet and people's mind 101: I don't tell people what you don't want them to do. Cause it's gonna be worst
Hahaha, they should have picked a longer name for velcro, like hook-and loop-brand velcro
They are my velcro to the other velcro part....
I just took time out from hoovering the inside of my JCB to google that. I was so distracted I walked straight into a dumpster, and now I need a band-aid for the cut on my arm. I wiped some of it with a kleenex, and smeared some vaseline over it.
Velcro for president
Tell that to Hoover. :-)
I wanna work there
Velcro
Trademark (TM) 2017 Velcro R company.
And if you make a mess using "Hook and loop" remember to hoover it all up.
Maybe it would be cheaper to just give up the trademark.
This is like trying to tell me Plato isn't a planet.
Okay okay I won't say it anymore!
How to backfire, John Oliver Style.
No worries guys, nobody even heard of you in Poland, there won't be any infringement.
I'm calling it velcro anyway just out of spite. That way, your trademark with dissipate as it becomes common name. Just like all band aids are band aids, so now the brand has to call it "band aid brand".
i think ur gonna do it out of habit, not spite lol
why are you so mad at a funny video
Why not just call it Velcro brand?
Guts, it's obviously a joke, calm down
Really good video 😂😂
I think I've just been velcroed...
I suppose they want us to stop calling shirts with collars polos, referring to mopeds as vespas, and assuming all pregnancy pills are plan B also.
Redditor and legal enthusiast here (I once beat Phoenix Wright Ace Attourney). These lawyers are right, it's wrong to use VELCRO® as if it were a common word. Social Justice has taught me that cultural appropriation is very real and harms creators of that culture. Therefore, we are appropriating the company culture of Velcro Brand Companies when we use VELCRO® outside of its intended legal context. Please refrain from velcroing this video with your ignorance.

What does VELCRO® even make now?
Ok i got go now lemme get my velcro shoes and my velcro wallet and my velcro socks and my velcro car and my velcro jacket
Velcro is way easier to say.
Wer ist auch hier wegen Velcro :D
Brilliant song, very catchy, well made point, very funny, and yet... it's still fucking velcro. The difference between Velcro (R) and velcro is the logo and the (R). If you didn't like it you shouldn't have waited 60 years to address the problem.
It's too late. Velcro is already common parlance for that type of fastener. Just like band-aid, and kleenex are common parlance now. Give it up. And no one cares if your trademark goes away.
Hook and loop? Nah, velcro.
o rega io me so' iscritto.Mi ha steso sta roba xD spolliciate se siete italiani xD
I'll stick to velcro..
Can I replaced all my nouns with VELCRO®?
Thanks so much for the fun!
Marketing: "We make bags, straps and bookends now. TIME FOR A REBRAND!"
No rebrand. Our legal team wanted in on the fun.
Velcro right?
I totally agree. It's like calling every diaper a Pampers, or every vacuum a Hoover. So annoying.
I need to go out and buy some Velcro ;) errm I mean clorox oh no I mean hook and loop
Ok
wow this is real?
Hook and loop? Maybe if you had a shorter, catchier name for it we wouldn't have been calling it velcro to begin with. I'm not going to call it "hook and loop."
Funny how you complain about losing your trademark to brand dilution, but you've managed to survive just fine 40+ years past the expiration of your patent.
REALLY not losing any sleep about your odds.
Velcro is anything with "hook and loop". Sorry company, you lost it already. Don't tell people, "you're using it the wrong way", you don't own English.
I have velcro shoes, and velcro on my remotes, but it's not Velcro.
Who else came here from VRV? Just me..? Ok...
