We're a fairly new homeschooling family, and I just want to say I am so grateful for your content. You have been such a massive help and guidepost for me along this journey. And, as an Exvangelical current Secular Humanist, I want to say that if more Christians around me had been like you I wouldn't have had to unpack so much religious trauma, so just as a human being - thank you.

Wow I have to say this is one of the best comments I’ve received! Thank you very much ❤️. It’s not always easy talking about the things I do, people can get pretty nasty in the comment section, so I really appreciate comments like yours.

Great video as always! There are a bunch of public school resources I love too! The biggest mistake I made for the first 5 years (we are in our 6th now) is that I was pressuring myself way too hard to keep each kid on grade level (according to oublic school standards) for every little thing. I finally had the realization that this is the one way we dont have to be like the public schools. I use the common core standards as everything we need to cover by the time they graduate, but I have had to reframe my thinking that it doesn't have to be achieved in the same timeframe as the public school. In some subjects, they are way ahead of grade level, in other subjects, they are behind. But overall, when I let them go at a pace that is developmentally appropriate for their individual brains, everyone is so much more relaxed and learning comes so much easier and more quickly. We will have gotten through all the standards by the time they graduate, but in their own timeframe and speed. Sometimes the learning is faster, sometimes it's slower, sometimes it comes in fits and spurts...but in the bigger picture it averages out, and we will get there in our own way! 😊

Thanks for sharing! I think it’s a mistake a lot of us make. I was stressing that my oldest wasn’t on grade level with math and after mapping everything out I realized it will eventually even out.

I really love you’re videos! It’s nice to see a real, down to earth individual with logical, common sense! We’re loving Coreknowledge. We use it for everything but math. I love the trade book lists they provide….this in itself makes it super fun for younger kids. We’re starting CKLA farms L&L and my son is super excited. I’m just curious why you don’t like the skills strand? Or is it because you used AAR with you’re oldest?

Thanks! You describe me exactly how I envision myself 😄 so it’s really nice to know that’s coming across in my videos. I recently tested out a CK math review unit with my 10yr old and I was surprised how well she liked it. CK just keeps giving my reasons to love it more 😆. The only reason we don’t use the skills unit is because we use AAR. I think the skills units are are very similar to AAR, I just happened to have it on hand already from using it with my oldest.

I figured that was why. Like I’m so confused why ppl don’t look into it more being it’s free.

Thank you for sharing this video. I definitely can relate to being influenced by social media. I got influenced to try Teaching textbooks. Honestly, I don’t like it and I’m not a fan. It just scratches the surface of a new lesson and then review other learned lessons. Yes it’s great to review but let’s spend more time on learning and understanding what is first being taught. It almost feel like a computer game to me. Now I’m trying to find something new. Lesson learned. I also agree with you on worksheets. We don’t always need them and verbal review and conversations can be so beneficial. Thank you for keeping your channel relatable. This why I enjoy watching and never miss a video.

I’m glad your enjoying my content!
I was almost influenced into using teaching textbooks in the beginning too. I even had my daughter trial it out but she ended up hating the format.

I have to admit, all these youtubers make me rethink how I'm not doing enough or have the wrong curriculum, BUT those thoughts die down quickly because I'm satisfied with what I'm doing and my daughter is learning.

Being content with yourself and your homeschool is important. There are many voices and opinions out there, but ultimately only you know what’s going to work for your homeschool.

I appreciate your honest view always. I think next year we will use CKLA and CKSCI. I just really think it’s so solid and it gives me the confidence my son is actually learning. For skills like reading, handwriting and math will be separate.

Sounds like you have a good plan. It’s similar to what I do for my 6yr old.
