Great video! I've been stumbling through this website because it looks great but has seemed so overwhelming when attempting to put it into practice. But your video broke it down very well. I do have a question though. As I'm sure you know, a lot of available history curriculum is white washed and often not entirely accurate or inclusive. How do you feel core knowledge does in this regard? Do you add other history curriculum to round it out more or do you feel like it stands pretty well by itself?
Who on teachers pay teachers did you get those visuals from. Those look good!
Hi, I'm really interested to know more about your religious views. Could you speak more about your denomination? I just recently found my way to the Episcopal Church. Being down south, I didn't even know mainline protestant denominations were a thing until like a year ago. I had only experienced Baptist/non-denominational churches. I would love to know more about your life as a Christian.
I had not heard of prosperity gospel until you mentioned it. I had to look it up. My impression as a relative outsider is that American Christianity is splintered into a million pieces. It's utterly confusing. Some good learning there for me. Popovits is Lutheran? And thanks for showing what you are reading! I recognised the name Jason Reynolds on the cover of "Twenty-Four Seconds Ago" so I went to my bookshelf and pulled the art/poetry book I had bought last year on a whim titled "My Name is Jason. Mine too." And voila! Reynolds is one of the Jasons! So I ordered the book. Male perspectives that aren something other than a self help relationship book is really a shallow pool. In the poetry book, there is a poem I dog-eared titled "Men Pretend." You might like to see if it's in your library. Would make a great addition to your book club. It's very short, too. Love your videos.
Thank you for sharing your reads!
We spend double that 😮😩 GFDF organic is very expensive where we live (celiac disease)
I was thrilled to see a grocery video from you!!! You’re one of my fav GF haul vloggers ❤❤
Your "woke" turned me off wayyy more than any part of her book...so dumb
I really feel for you and the grocery budget. We are a Gluten free /dairy free family of 4 and spend just about the same amount as you. It’s outrageous the prices for gluten free. We also get told to make as much as you can from Scratch that will save you a ton. Not always 🤦🏻♀️. I will have to look at Marshall’s for some gluten free finds. I also heard you mention a snack bin a few times. Do you just have one bin with a bunch of options for your kids ? I may need to add this to my kitchen. So I don’t get stopped a lot for snacks.
Ooo, the dog! Do you consider gluten in the dog’s food? I actually found one for our new puppy that I feel comfortable having around, but I need to find an adult version in the coming months that doesn’t contain wheat or barley. I like keeping our house GF so we can be relaxed about everything in our own home. As far as grocery cost, I don’t track it. It’s awful and I honestly don’t want to know that number.
Yes I have considered the dog! I am glad you brought this point up because dog food often has gluten in it. I found it difficult to find a completely gluten free dog food that met my dogs needs and was in my budget. We use Blue Diamond Grain Free Senior dog food. It does contain barley grass but it hasn’t caused an issue in my house and my dog actually really likes it.
I totally agree about condensing grades/curriculum. I hate the mindset of doing something just to check off the box and say you did it, especially as most homeschoolers are *not* required to teach any particular subject! We should find the real value of every subject we CHOOSE to teach. I also dislike the rush to graduate early or start taking a bunch of dual enrollment courses. Both have their place (especially DE), but we shouldn't be in a rush to finish school, we should savor the time we have to just focus on education.
So when do you do what I call “the dailies” (the laundry, dishes, etc?)I know they aren’t part of the zone cleaning 20 minute plan so when do those daily tasks get done? I have a hard time not being overwhelmed by the dailies so looking for some inspiration.
I do a load of laundry every day M-F. The kids are responsible for folding and putting the clothes away. With dishes it’s one of my kids job to unload the dishwasher and when everyone is done with their dishes they rinse them and put them directly into the dishwasher. The kids pick up their own toys and rooms and that is done before their electronic time. Hope that’s helpful! Please let me know if you have any other specific questions.
I disagree a little about your opinion on condensing curriculum. Teachers in public schools don’t usually even teach a “curriculum” with fidelity. Ultimately the curricula is not the purchased program but the content of the standards for a particular class or grade. The purchased program is just a tool to meet or learn those standards.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic.
Such a great idea for the reusable bag for the bread. I switched my family to cloth napkins and hardly buy paper towels anymore. As we try to use reusable paper towels. What a huge savings and I feel better being more eco-friendly. Where did you get the smaller cloth snack bags ? Would love to start using them in my own home.
I know one set came from Aldi, one came from lunchskins, the Disney set is from Bumkins and I also have a freezable one from Pack it.
@ thank you for letting me know also about freezable ones ! That would be super useful as well. Thank you for letting me know
How do you store meat? We buy from Costco and the only way I’ve figured out how to store it is in ziplocks.
The reusable bags are freezer safe and dishwasher safe as well. I do label certain bags for meat and only put meat in those designated bags.
Are the reusable bags good in the freezer? I’d like to fully switch over to reusable (when my current ziplocks are finished), but don’t know about the freezer bags.
Yes, the ones I use are freezer and dishwasher safe and work well.
Haha we are so similar in things we don’t buy! When i decided on things to put on my no buy list or low buy list my big thing is book! Haha i need to cut down on books. I need to utilize my library more 😂
That one I am pretty good with. I am at my local library at least once a week 😆📚
So glad I came across your page! I found you as I was looking for math reviews, but stayed for the likemindedness!
I’m glad you found my channel and it’s been helpful to you 😄
So encouraged by this video
I’m so glad! We’re definitely in a time that everyone needs a bit of encouragement 😄
This is the best channel I’ve found for someone trying to happily transition their kids to gluten free.
Thank you so much for your refreshing perspective, Michelle.
Your welcome 😄
Love it
How were the cookies?
Good, I went back for more! 🍪
Thank you for your review!
This was really helpful. Yes to less stress! I’ll be getting more scheduled to free up time too.
I am glad you found it helpful!
Thank you for sharing what younare doing to help your hair. ❤
I'm similar to you and also been dealing with this too for the past year 😩 thank you so much for this video.
I understand the feelings with hair loss. It's quite shocking. I've always had thick long hair but now my 8 year old's hair is thicker than mine. It has been progressively thinner the last few years. I chalk mine up to perimenopause. My sister in law has been having the same problem & she started using the Mary Ruth brand of vitamins. They're fairly expensive I feel and trendy from what I see on social media. I don't know if they truly work and people are giving legitimate reviews or just trying to jump on the bandwagon. I should just bite the bullet and buy some vitamins and hope they work.
I too have seen the trend of the Mary Ruth vitamins. Not sure if they’re any good as I’ve never really looked into it. I know it’s hard to judge improved results with supplements, but I figure it can’t hurt to try.
Thank you for making this video! For me, having Covid and finding out I was severely anemic did a number on my hair. It took months (like you said) to see it going in a positive direction again.
I’m glad it’s going in a positive direction for you!
Thank you so much for the review. Do you think with Sentence Island we would need the instructor and the student book? We are purchasing the pdf version.
The instructor manual has all the answers. It’s possible to just buy the instructors manual and write the sentences on a separate sheet of paper, but it does become tiresome to keep doing it.
I am not a Christian nor do I carry their doctrines. I study Yahauh word and try to follow his word and recognize Messiah as a Hebrew who was from the tribe of Levi and Judah. I honestly dont understand how a majority of Christians have to use certain curriculum to teach their children it seems like the bible and everyday discussions in what interests them would be enough. Also, I notice they just keep on getting different ones to replace ones they may disagree with and or not like ect. So why not just use whatever works and maybe even considered secular and use critical thinking skills.
Love the pig!! ❤
Thank you! 🐷
An inspiration! You’ve certainly got it together with routines/schedules. Lots of practical takeaways I’m going to start implementing! You put out some very useful content that many other homeschoolers don’t 😊
Thank you, I’m glad your finding my content helpful!
Are you planning on using Torchlight levels 4 and 5 with your kids at some point?
I would like to incorporate it in the future. I am not sure we will be able to use it in its entirety with my oldest due to scheduling, but I definitely want to at least try to bring in some components.
thank you !! im gluten intolerant and i have the same problem, Tj is over a 30 min drive for us and we are making our first trip today to get me some variety finally! 😂
Hope you found some good options!
Thank you for the video! How much information overlap do you find there is between the CKLA and CKHG unit of the same topic? Ex. the Ancient Greece units. I want the units for the history content but I love the flipbook layout of the CKLA. I don't know which unit to do.
The CK content is related but not the same. I prefer the language arts over the history option for CK. It’s more than enough history exposure for my younger two kids.
You are real as real as they get. No pretentiousness. Thank you for these updates. I will share my goals in another comment. What I love about your channel is you tell it how it is! And no sponsorships/promotion. When I see this on a channel I’m not sure how much they are being transparent. You’re a gem 😊
Thank you! I really appreciate your comment 😁
Adulting is the worst! We need to get our roof repaired this year. As a family goal, I want us to be more conscious of recycling and visiting the recycling center.
I agree! Adulting really is the worse. Thanks for sharing your goals.
I use Google sheets and love it. It's free and it functions just like Excel
Thank you for this!
Your welcome!
Looking forward to hearing about how you've turned around the hair loss. I've definitely had the same experience as I've gotten older.
Nice! I’m glad you’re enjoying the MK book and also his video content! And the ranch snow globe came out great!
Try sparketh it's amazing
Thank you for sharing this! One of my goals is to not impulse or urge buy through Amazon. Being really intentional with what I purchase for my home and for homeschooling.
Great goal to work towards, thanks for sharing!
I love these videos. You always inspire me to think more about my intentions! This year I'm also focusing on intentional movement for overall health. My mom also passed away at a relatively young age (61) and with 4 young kids at home and being over 40 I'm always conscious of how fleeting time is. I've also set a lofty reading goal (100 books). We also have a goal of finally building up savings (also single income by choice, and not a giant corporate income) and we have some real work to do to eliminate debt and grow savings. In the current political climate we really want to be set up to help others in any way we can and that isn't possible while drowning in debt. Thanks for sharing your goals!
Thanks for sharing your goals!
Thanks for sharing your budget update. It is important to talk about budget. Choosing to homeschool is an investment in our childrens education. We utilize core knowledge as a free resource. It is so nice to have available a free solid program to be able to put funds other places in my homeschool budget!
CK is a great program and like you said I love that it allows me the opportunity to put my money towards other homeschooling expenses.
Knowing the names of the library staff is so true!
Being lotose introlaent makes it difficult, the salt 🧂 is high especially on tuna fish 🐟 I have salt issues my system does not tolerate salt 🧂 or bread 🍞 the wraps I get re’ gluten free, Gluten sensitivity anything with wheat 🍞 I fall asleep within half an hour 😿. The sodium is through the roof these days I remember I can of tuna fish 🐟 used to be 170 I was stunned it went up to 280 sodium I was like Nope 🙅 not going to have my sodium levels go through the roof again twice was enough for me.
