    The sweater you are wearing is gorgeous! I love the colours and they really suit you. I love making socks, and I always use circular needles and magic loop, so that I can do 2 at a time, toe up. That way the needles can be used for other projects, and you don't get "2nd sock syndrome"! A great first podcast, and I look forward to the next one.

      Thank you! The sweater has really grown on me! I’ve enjoyed using magic loop and am interested in trying the “2 socks at a time” technique!

    Beautiful cables on your sweater!!! As for Sock knitting needles, I learned on 2.25mm Knitter's pride DPN's and I really like them. Also I love the price point for them, around $7.00 Canadian. My other favourite are the Chiaogoo 9'' Circular needles but I still use the DPN's for the heel and the toes. Good luck! Can't wait for episode 2 :)

      Thank you! I’ve heard really great things on the 9” circulars! I’ve being using chiaogoo with magic loop and it’s been great for my so far! You can find Episode 2 linked in the description as well! 😊

    You can totally pull off those colors! The sweater looks like a cool mash up of traditional stitch patterns and lovely jazzy, tertiary color tones.

    I love what you are wearing despite the colours, you’ve done a fabulous job. Sometimes for socks I use 9” circular needs but I give my hands a rest and swap projects so they don’t get too sore, however they’re great for colourwork. Otherwise I use magic loop, check out crazy sock lady videos 😊

      Yes! I’ve heard lots of the 9” circulars and crazy sock lady here on TH-cam! I found one of her videos wayy back before I started knitting and they’ve always been in my “want to knit” pile!

    Wow I can't believe you knit your vest without a pattern after a year of knitting. You obviously have an engineering brain. I make up my own patterns but have been knitting for 65 years. I well done on your podcast + I am excited to see where your journey goes

      @elysssjoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Sue! I really appreciate your comment, and I’ve never thought of it as an “engineering brain” but maybe you’re right! I’ve always enjoyed figuring out how things can work together and just sort of making it up as I go! I’m excited to see where knitting will take me as well! I hope to have my second episode up this weekend! Thanks for watching ❤️

    I’ve been knitting the same amount of time as you. Almost to the date. I am primarily a sock knitter. I do magic loop. It’s so easy. I can’t handle using tiny needles. And I’ve never tried DPN’s but I’m sure it would be simple too :)

    • @elysssjoy
      @elysssjoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s so cool! I’ve started magic loop recently and I’m almost done with my second! I can happily say I’ll keep knitting socks

    I love knitting socks!! I use 4 double pointed needles. I have a bamboo set for more slippery yarn and a metal set for a a rougher yarn 🧶 ❤

      I’ve gotten the hang of magic loop pretty well but I think I’d enjoy dpns too! so far my sock knitting has been really enjoyable too!

    I am also relatively new to seriously knitting (picked up again around the same time you did). This last year I finished 1 vanilla pair of socks top up and knit one other top down. I've tried all of the different methods (DPNS, magic loop, and 9" circulars). I personally don't love doing magic loop but it has the advantage of you being able to knit two socks at the same time, so worth thinking about if that's something you might want to do. I do like working with DPNs (also I think they look so cool-just an added bonus) but I've found that they are harder to get used to and sometimes can have laddering/differences in gauge between two needles. I just tried the 9" circulars which a few podcasters recommended and whipped through a pair. I use DPNs for the toe and heel and the 9" circulars for everything else on the sock!

    • @elysssjoy
      @elysssjoy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve heard really good things about the 9” circulars lately, I’ll probably give them a try! I’ve finished a total of 3 socks and just have half a foot left of my fourth, all on magic loop. It’s been great with the needles I got (Chaigoo) but always wanting to try a few new methods!

    Love your sweater and the color is amaizing. I knit socks on 9" circular needles. I knit sock for around 1 to 2 hours every morning never had a problem with cramping.

      @elysssjoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! I’ve heard really positive thing with 9” circulars, i definitely want to give them a try soon!

    • @marykestrydom8358
      @marykestrydom8358 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried magic loop and dpns and hated it. My first 9" were 3mm the one I'm using now is 2mm. I ended up buying 2 needles in same size that way I can work on both socks at the same time. I knit 20 rows per sock so they are finished the same time no second sock syndrome. When doing the toes I'll use magic loop

    Hi Lisa, I can't believe that you have only been knitting a year. That sweater you are wearing is gorgeous. I know that you don't like the colours, but I love them. And that vest! Not even using a pattern?!? That's really amazing! You should write and sell knitting patterns.

    • @elysssjoy
      @elysssjoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aww, thanks Linda! I really appreciate your comment, the colors have grown on me quite a bit too so I think I will keep as is! I was just as surprised with myself about the vest! I'm not very experienced with writing patterns but I guess no one is when they first start. Who knows! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your kind comment! Happy knitting!

    Hi Lisa, I have not finished watching yet. First your handknits are beautiful. Can you dye acryllic yarn? I do not know. Back in the day fabrics needed to be of a natural fiber to dye. But I have seen dyes at JoAnns that can be used on synthetic fiber.
    I have heard of people say "overdye". You can see the pattern design but the colors are changed. So if black dye, the fabric will not turn a solid black. So this is not the best reply, but it gives you resources and wording to further your research. I hope you share if you do dye something as we would be interested. I am subscribing.

      Thank you Carol! I will most definitely continue to research and see what I can find. I will say that the colors have grown on me, especially with the nice things people have said, but I’m still not 100% sold that I’ll want to wear this sweater “out and about”
