    I own this knife and carry it everyday. My wife liked it so much that I bought her one too and it is her everyday carry. You'd be surprised as to how many uses you can find for it. As to sharpness, both of ours came sharp enough to shave you. Great knife and really cool!

    Hello mate, i still got me Granddads RN knife by Venture H.M Slater Sheffield he was a Booty and got issued with the knife in 43/44 (he couldn't really remember) used the spike a lot, but not for sodding ropes. 😩 bloody chuffed to see Sheffield is still churning out top draw gear. Nice one. ATB Moose.

    Over here they were navy knives, the same as our M-95 but with a knot tool. So the knife blade was more Victorinox style here and we had separate tin and bottle opener ( with screwdriver). If we went on survival we got a proper Victorinox Soldier.

    Great knife sharpens up great. I actually have the original army issue one given to me by my granddad many moons ago, its took some beating over the years and is still as good as new. Hopefully my new copied version will last the same length of time. Good vids.

    Interesting vid, I have one of these pocket knives, it is stamped DCC ARP 1939 and has just the one blade and the marlin spike, the outer casing may be stainless but has a slight brassy colour to it and I am pretty sure the blade and spike are not stainless due to the patina/rust etc it is still tight and in great working order. The knife was amongst a tool box full of small tools that my late father inlaw used during WW2 he was a sewing machine mechanic in Manchester through the War years . Really enjoyed this tape. DCC = Davenport Cutlery Company
      ARP = Air Raid Precaution ie Issued to air raid wardens who among other things policed the blackout.
      1939 is very early for this type of knife. Very collectable and scarce.

    They were standard issue to all Australian troops in the 40's here.

    • @snarkymatt585
      @snarkymatt585 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They would have been the tropical pattern of the British service clasp knife (the late war "Burma knife), the horn scales on the standard pattern didn't go well in humid climates. This pattern of knife was also issued to the Australian Army in the 70s and well into the 90s.

    I have that exact knife , I purchased it for Garrett Wade . It's a very well built knife and should last a person a couple life times . However , I don't like it . The width from the bottom of the marlinspike to the top of the blade is to wide for my liking . I purchased it because it had a marlinspike and a shackle ( Clevis , bail ) so I could hang it on my belts metal key ring clip , but like I said , it's just to wide . I prefer my 1968 U.S. military Camillus pocket knife . I've been carrying it daily for over 21 years and use it alot .

    I actually have an original issue one of these (complete with the service stamp and number on the handle) handy little knife. good quality and at the moment it lives in my kitchen for opening containers and tins. not to fussed on the screw driver but I have had a lot of use out of the spike over the years such as puncturing leather to make sewing sheaths much easier, among general bushcraft tasks?
    one thing I did note however the spike on mine appears to be much sharper than the one on that reproduction knife, also mine doesn't have the mirror finish, this may be due to it's age, or because it was an issue knife, a bright shiny knife isn't great in the field

    surprising weather for april im off out now to go poke my local bobbys! with my marlin spike!!
    very sturdy piece of kit still all features on this knife dead handy today these
    knife manufacturers often let you down on the sharpnesses of their product some consider that to be the clients prerogatives or obligations upon its receipts
    but to me its pretty obvious put a decent edge on it to begin with!!
    the tin opener is solid in facts everything about this knife is solid which is why its still around centuries later!!
    nice review
    looked pretty inclement where you were? im in s west of france
    what is sleet rain or hail?
    can you explain it to me?
    he he he!!

    • @verysurvival

      Humble Trekker aah yeh their weather air streams get affected by the arctic and russian steppes
      blowing in chilly cold or changeable volatile airstreams i thought you were in essex?
      i saw a 1958 exped trip to nahanna valley in canada by two geologists man n wife couple who managed to get past series of rapids into deadmans valley
      in there n west territories it isnt unusual to get a 100° deg temp changes in several mins or just a few hours the clouds thicken up quickly after forming arounds ball of the sun real quickly they can be baking hot in 100+ degs weather or minus - 80degs
      thats a 180 deg variational rates!!
      n i thought we had got it bad!?
      sweden is meant to be quite nice a place isnt it?
      i hear locals suicides rates go up
      in winter they suffer from tree madness
      being secluded for many months in deep dark woods
      turns their minds in remote places
      social workers often have to visit vulnerable peoples
      who get suffer depression up there
      thats why they relieve long winters with spoonmaking and other folk crafts?
      to relieve the all pervading forests over the long winter months!!

    Say Heah , I got my Genuine British Clasp Knife, Mine is the
    SHE 014. The Genuine is deciving, I still can't find if mine is a real military issue or if it's a copy,. To be honest, It's a hefty knife and on mine the Marlin Spike is a lock up by the lever at the end that's a flat lanyard ring, It also show which position it's locked and unlocked, I don't see any arrows on mine, although it looks good enough to be a military issue, it's definetly a hefty knife,, Can you Please help me to identify my SHE 014 if it's real or a cioy, Thanx you.,,.

      @verysurvival  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +paulie 4x hi, the British army have issued knives like this since the 1940s. You can find lots of them with slightly different designs and from different manufacturers. Actual military issued ones will have a Broad Head Arrow marking and possibly a serial number or the soldiers own number. But apart from that not much else, will also not be highly polished will be Matt finished. If it has engraved Genuine British Army knife it is not a military issue knife, it is the same knife basically but just intended for consumers to buy and not the army to issue out.

    • @paulie4x1
      @paulie4x1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanx You for all your trouble and info, I ordered one, Their was a LX but I got the more expensive one, The blade I think is 4 7/8, The lesser expensive has the Geniune British Army on it, The more expensive one has numbers, I'll check it out again then I could let you know more. The more expencive one also has a lanyar attached to the handle opposite the screwdriver, The LX has a metal loop like you see on pocket knives.,,.

      Any of these knives with 'British army knife' stamped on them arent genuine issue.
      The issue ones with either have;
      A combination of: Date of manufacture, crows foot arrow, NSN number and 'oil the joints' stamped on them.
      The issue knives can have one, two or three blades and can be normal folders or locking.
