That turned out nice. The pliers meet the ScoutCrafter standard. That repair on the pouch was great. That will function for years. I would date that pouch at 1974 or newer. It has a NSN on the back. The military switched from FSN to NSN in 74. Thanks for the fun. 🤠
Liked that little knife. Loved the scales. I thought that leather was a lost cause good job. I carried a electrical knife and a Leatherman for years working at the hospital. It was always on me when I wasn't working. I probably would have been in jail in New York. Stay safe and healthy my friend. Thanks
ScoutCrafter. I have several of the Leatger cases. One in as issued condition. Have tons of the knives. I find them at flea markets regularly for 5 or less. Most of them you can’t open the locking blade due to lack of Maint. A little oil and a tooth brush gets it going. I used to give them to my students when they would graduate my program. I found one with wood scales. Those are the WWII knives. The Marines had USMC stamped into the scales. Have that one to my son in the Corps. Klein still makes them and list in catalog. The pliers are kinda hard to find though. Stay safe brother and keep the great work coming.
Thats a great idea with the epoxy and the mesh backing! I saw remnants of fabric and cordage like that too. Dave Canterbury recommends that everyone should carry at least 2 ten foot lengths of paracord in your pocket with a loop on the end of each ten foot length to have on hand in the event you need to lash something real quick and I have been doing that for a year now. I have a small bag in my pocket with a few lengths like that along with little fabric remnants. My wife has a sewing machine in one of the bedrooms and she has a plastic bag with at least 1000 various buttons in them. Everyone collects something that can be useful.
Very cool! The background info on the service issued stuff is facinating. Great stuff. On a side note, i am really excited to learn more about the barn you mentioned. Cheers
This was definitely unserviceable and should be tossed but they are pretty rare now and quite pricy so we now can get a few more seasons out of her! =D
It's like day and night. Seeing that pocket knife reminds of a similar, if not the same, model my father had. I think it was from the navy. Great work as always!
Really nice to see some leather work! I can really learn from that. I watched (or maybe re-watched, can't remember exactly) your Vulcan chain vise video, what an awesome piece that is. Thanks a lot and I look forward to the next one!!

Great restoration of the toolkit. The little knife would be illegal in the UK as well as it has a locking blade. I liked your description of returning items as unserviceable to the QM stores. When I served, things had to be so beaten up and broken to be almost unrecognizable before the QM would reissue. I think all QMs treat their stores like their own personal property and begrudge issuing anything out of them.
Love the video! I actually found one of those kits at a flea market, but didn’t know what it was. I’ll get the knife on eBay. I wanted to ask if you have a video about the tools you use to restore metal tools? I notice that you use the grinder when taking off the rust. What grit discs do you use?
Funny how a nice case makes something a *Kit.* Without the case it's just a pair of pliers and a pocket knife. A socket set without a nice case is just a ratchet and loose sockets but in that case you have a Sweet Set. Basically everything is better when it has a Case, be it leather, metal, wood, cloth or plastic
Hey Scout, I just got an old monarch vise, it was my girlfriend's grandfather's. No crazy rust on it so I was just planning to wire brush it and lube it up. I like the look of the old cast iron, so I don't plan on painting... So what would you recommend putting on for rust prevention?
Hi John, whilst watching this [nice fix btw] I wondered, if its ok to ask, when you were in the service were you deployed to any active theatre? Any 'interesting' experiences?

Greetings John,
You did a great job on making the leather pouch functional again. Now this leather case was in pretty bad shape. Can you do a video on leather restoration where the leather is not over the hill like this leather.
Thank you, take care and stay healthy.
