I agree that 41 is worse than 42 sort of. The thing is I can at least distinctly remember 41. The casts of 42 and 43 have blurred together in my memory, especially the pre-mergers and the early merge boots. I do remember that 42 had the exact same twists as 41 though but dont remember how it played out in 42. I personally think forgettable is worse than being bad. And as bad as 41 is, I can recall the entire season from start to finish very well. So I personally rank 42 as the worst on the basis of not being memorable
My order would be Number Five: 43. It’s just boring. Real lack of dynamic gameplay outside of Jesse. Terrible F3. No interesting twists other than the beads. Number Four: 42. This was a fun season with some great characters, but the rehashed twists and less exciting gameplay made it less interesting than its predecessor. Number Three: 45. 90 minute episodes are a godsend, and this season had some of the best episodes in the show’s history. Number Two: 44. Carolyn. Nuff said. Number One: 41. I don’t care if it’s a hot take. This season has everything I want in a Survivor season: unpredictable gameplay, exciting tribals, big twists, emotional moments, larger than life characters all capped off with the excitement of Survivor being back after a year. People hate it because it has twists (and because they talk about minorities…) but I truly love this season and always will.
Still think 45s a bit too high but I can agree with most of this There just wasn’t a lot of compelling content post merge once Emily and Kellie left and watching Dee and Austin steamroll while Jake gets the “dumbass” edit got old

The Tika 3 are some of the best characters to be on survivor ever, period, but what else is there aside from their story? And even then, the Tika 3 story is just them steamrolling through the entire post merge game. They were never in any genuine danger until the final 4. That paired along with a lot of bad twists leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. At the time it was a run ride seeing the Tika 3 dominate but looking back on it, it’s one of the most top heavy casts in survivor history
Honestly I rewatched it and yeah I agree, 44 gets good at like the final 7 while the pre-merge and early merge twists are completely soul sucking in dullness

I have 43 and 45 swapped because I think the lows of 45 (mid season Belo pick off) were way too low to allow it to surpass 43 which was pretty great throughout. I do agree with pretty much everything else, glad to see someone who isn’t a 42 Stan as I never really got the hype for that seaosn
Easily best season of the new era that was really saved by the end game. Gabler final tribal was one of the best I have seen. Just spoke facts so confidently and earned a deserved victory from the jury.
Eh the final 12 through final 9 rounds are really bad for me, none of the strategy is properly explained and I found the Choose your Champion and the entire final 7 round to be super boring Final 8 and final 6 thru the finale are really good but that doesn’t carry it to top 5
I couldn’t stand the edit, Luvu has 4/6 of their members in the Final 6 and Danny and Heather get almost no focus Do or Die sucked and I felt they focused too much on Xander for a 0 vote finalist that didn’t end up doing anything after the fake idol
The hot girls of the old era hit different. There’s no “hot guys” worth drooling over save for a few. All of 41-45 are still in the bottom 8 out of 45 seasons still.
I wonder if I'd rank other seasons higher if they all had the 90 minute run time. For me it's 41 is worst, then 43, then 44, then 42, then 45. But 42 with 45 runtime? Probably top tier!
Personally from most to least favorite: 44, 42, 43, 45, 41 45 and 43 switch often with a lot of the better characters I liked often going out unceremoniously leaving us with a pretty meh ending, the gameplay was also very stale in 43, with the twists being a huge negative for 45. I really wanted to like 41, but Deshawn was super irritating to me and at the final 11 where he straight up refused to talk and more strategy seriously ticked me off. Too much edit was spent on Evvie, Tiffany, and Naseer while endgamers like Danny and Heather got nearly purpled. Erika is an adequate winner, not clambering for a return from her but she seemed decently fun but due to twists a lot of merge gameplay is often safe nowadays until like top 8 see Jeanine in 43 where several members have said post season that they didn’t want to risk causing a big divide before a potential tribe split
I feel Riccard was a really good survivor player his season just really sucked. I think if he was on any other season he would be a widely agreed great player.
I really don’t like how they made 1 of the players speak up about the guys thing, I couldn’t care less about it, but it felt like they wanted to scapegoat someone in case it was received poorly
Honestly, the only change I'd make to this list is putting 42 at the top (pushing 44 and 45 down one slot each). Maybe it's just me, but the "One alliance sticks together until the end" narrative, while unavoidable if that's just how the game plays out, is just not as fun to watch in retrospect, and so the domination of the Tika 3 and Reba 4 respectively makes it hard to me to completely love 44 or 45 (though both are quite good in spite of this flaw; had the Reba 4 crumbled it would DEFINITELY be #1 from the modern era in my book). 42 avoids this narrative, while also not having the flaws of 41 (bad editing; bloated with advantages) or 43 (unsatisfying narrative, overall not-as-engaging cast) in my view. Plus, Maryanne and Omar are some of my favorite players ever, and the likes of Rocksroy and Mike provide some good humor to the season. Heck, even Zach I kind of like, though that's motsly due to the stuff he does outside the show. As such, 42 is tops for me, though definitely possible for another season to take it over, particularly if 90-minute episodes stick around.

I don't think I need to explain why 41 is last. 44 is near the bottom because most of the focus is on the Tika 3 and barely anyone else (except maybe Frankinship and Matthew) get any sense of development in the edit. 45 could've been the best but the gameplay was just middling to me. 42 is basically 41 but properly executed and edited in an interesting and fun way. 43 I just loved the whole cast and the gameplay was interesting, the only reason it's not the best for me is the editing.

Aagh!! Im view 999!! Y-Y I do wanna say that 43 is absolutely my favorite of the new era!! Whilst I do think there was a lot less gameplaying early than other new era seasons, I really felt like near the end of the season I wouldnt have minded anyone winning! I think that it’s important for the late game to be exciting, which it was, and when you put 7 or 8 really fun players on top of it I’m happy! Unfortunately I do think 45 had a lot of the opposite, with in my opinion only Dee, Jake, and Julie being characters I liked by the end. Either way, I’m happy survivor is still on after 45 seasons and no matter how much or little I enjoy one season! Greatest show on television for 24 years!! 🤍
