  • 360 reframed Insta360 X3 video (1920x1080 HD) versus Insta360 X4 video (3840x2160 4K).
    This serves to show what 360 reframed video from both cameras will look like.
    Quickly edited in Final Cut Pro X.

    The grass patches look more like green carpets in the X3 when compared with the X4. Marked improvement in X4. Thanks for sharing.

      I am doing all kinds of tests for myself, and figure I can post what I shoot in case someone else is thinking of doing the same tests.

      I needed to see it with my own eyes. All the expert users know how to set manual settings and stuff, and always get results far better than what I get when I just turn the camera on and click record.

    I have watched about 1000 x3 / x4 comparison videos - ok, 999 - and this is the first one where I can clearly see the resolution difference in every frame. Usually it shows with overhead cables and similar fine details, but here it can be seen throughout the shot. Great!

      Thanks for taking time to leave this comment. When I watch the pros, they know how to do all the manual settings and such. I figure most folks will just turn it on and click record, so that's how I try to do these videos. It doesn't matter what the camera is capable of if I don't know how to make it do it :)

      @@Ozpeter I just uploaded something that was done directly from the phone app. The desktop Insta360 Studio gives more export options. I wonder if anyone has done any comparisons on the export quality between mobile versus desktop. I may try that this morning. Our temperatures just dropped to near-freezing again so I don't really want to go outside for any walks or rides right now.

    nice, thank you, looks like a real upgrade

      Far better of an upgrade than I expected -- even after watching a lot of launch day videos. One thing I did not expect were all the new features in the firmware, and how slick/nice it has. It has tutorials that walk you through settings and such, and can "speak" what mode you are in or a countdown. Just lots of really good features. This is not the same camera as the previous generations.

    Still frame at 0:57 basically shows the quality difference in the rubble and grass.

      Oh geez, you are quite right. I was focusing my attention on the business sign letters. You can really see grass details on the X4 and its more of a mush of green on the X3.

      @@subethasoftware Truth be told, while moving quickly you dont notice it too much, but it does improve video quality.

      @@Kajamazvideos Much like when I went from ONE X2 to X3, there were many examples I thought looked better on the older camera. Same thing applies to the X3 versus X4. But man, even if the video was 100% the same, I’d still have upgraded because of the other improvements. We just need to get all the missing features added back!

    Just to make sure for the x4: You shot in 360°Mode (not single lense) with 4k (how many fps?)? Thank you! Would be interested in a 360°Mode reframed x4, 5.7k/60fps video.

    • @subethasoftware
      @subethasoftware  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did both tests - one shooting both in single lens mode and exporting, and the other shooting both in 360 then reframing and exporting. I think this video is the Reframed 360 one, so that is what you see when you record 360 and export flat later.

  • @Kraeuterbutter
    @Kraeuterbutter หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    hmm.. i would have liked it when you had also exported in 4k with the X3
    so i dont know: is it less resolution because exportet only in FullHD or is it less resolution because of the readout of the chip
    i liked the single-lens-comparison Video
    but this here: ok to see, that i like the colors on the X4 more
    but fo resolution: its that export-issue fullhD vs. 4k
    it would be also great so see: X3 in Single Lens-mode vs. X4 reframes to same size in 360-Mode..
    so people who have already an X3 get a better feeling

    • @subethasoftware
      @subethasoftware  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The X3 exporting reframed video only does 1080HD. I think you can customize and export a larger size, but my understanding is you only get about 1080HD anyway so it’s not helping.
      I do like the idea of comparing single lens X3 4K with reframed 360 4K from the X4. I’ll try that! If the X4 reframed can compare to X3 single lens, that’s huge.

    I would like to see a video of the x4 8K reframed but just walking. Its easier to see how good the quality is.

      If I can't find something like that to point you to, I'll see if I can find a way to take the cameras for a walk. Right now, I am using two separate handlebar mounts to put the X3 and X4 side-by-side. I don't currently have anything for mourning them to a tripod or selfie stick.

    Any special export settings with Insta360 Studio before importing into Final Cut Pro? This is such a great, straightforward comparison that clearly shows a difference in sharpness. Thanks for this!

      I selected h.265 and used the max bitrate, 200 Mbps. That is probably overkill for this video, but I figured maxing it out would be as good as automatic "just record" gets.

      Do we know what the internal bitrate of saved videos is? I wonder if the storage speed is a limit, or the processing power.

      @@subethasoftware Just checked a 29:01 24.41GB set of X3 files (5760x2880 29.97fps) Bitrate of 119.88Mb/s. I got the X3 bitrate from right clicking file name - File Properties in Insta360 Studio. 24.41/29=.84 Insta360's X4 FAQ says File Size per Minute of 1.5GB. Note that real cameras bitrates start at ~400 MB/s for 4k and go to 2,600 for RAW 6k/8k.

      @@subethasoftware I don't remember the video, but one of the X4 review/impression videos mentions that the likely reason for staying with 8-bit is not a bottleneck with writing to the memory card but the processing/heat. To maintain relative size/weight/power draw the technology may not yet exist. It seems likely they are using the same chipset as the Ace cameras, which likewise is limited to 8-bit. And given how hot DJI action cameras with 10-bit get with a single sensor and ONLY 4K, thermal limitations seem the likely reason.
