Awesome, a 24 yr old game with 29 expansions can be VERY overwhelming. I would suggest joining the newest Progression server. This way you get to enjoy the game from early expansions and with heavy player populations. You will find many veteran and new players that can show you the ropes =)
Thank you so much from the Barbarian wastes of Norway (my first character was a Shaman called Dharnak on Fenin Ro, played a lot with a friend of mine who was from Philly, just loved his KO(ok), friendliest fellow I ever met in EQ. I got to lvl50 in about 3 months in the old days, that should tell you how much I played then, more or less 24/7, slept about 6 hours or so, talk about being hooked 😅. This was a great help with the UI, now I can actually be effective playing the game, not all the junk that have been added for 25 years (played open beta from March 1st 1999, so I got about around lvl 20 with my shaman in beta, that also helped me a lot to lvl up to 50. Who can forget the "Hell" lvls that started at 30, 35, 40, 45 I think, as it wasn't slow enough 😅. Sorry for all the yappin, thanks and have fun playing the game.

I saw a post awhile back about 4k settings and UI on the EQ forums. Maybe you could find help there forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/ui-on-a-4k-monitor.233621/
This don't work on TLP servers.. i can't get any custom UI's to load, follow the directions exactly, it just blinks and loads default. Not only that everytime you launch the game you have to remember to go full screen mode at the char select or it fucks up the whole UI. pretty annoying.
It works on every server. I play on Aradune a TLP server it works perfectly. Something on your end, wish I knew more so I can help you but the instructions are detailed.
Also if you haven't experimented, change the resolution down some. Especially if your using a modern computer thats set for ultra high resolution. The other thing you might want to try is changing from Full screen to Windowed View. Or vica-versa . Sometimes you have to play with it depending on your Computers performance etc... But I have used this UI on every computer old to new ... Works everytime. Works for Guildies, Family and Friends no issues. The only other possibility could be you installed it before or right after a new patch came out. It takes about a day for EQ Interface to have an updated version. Good Luck
Might want to reconsider dissing Boomers. I am 62 and I can assure you that I have much more experience with tech and games than you do. Course I also have over 40 years experience as a developer.

Man this would be perfect if it just had haste info at glance like it does for mana, HP, resists., for all classes that rely on haste.

Cuz the game is so many years old. They should have updated it mind you but hey. Thats all we had back in the day lol
It's my understanding they have plans of updating it. Their updating the Games Engine as well. We shall see /fingers crossed

The default is trash. I can't believe they dump that in a new players lap the way they do, with no direction whatsoever
You must not have played in 1999... The new UI is way better
