- How To Defeat Dragonlord Placidusax - Elden Ring Gameplay Guide
I find the fight against Dragonlord Placidusax to be insanely fun, and some of the animations of its attacks are incredibly cool. This boss fight is incredibly important despite being optional, because of a related quest that allows you to change your ending choice. In this video I discuss my tactics to take down Dragonlord Placidusax effectively.
The Golden Order has been broken. Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between.
In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered.
Marika's offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will.
And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring.
And become the Elden Lord.
Elden Ring is an action role-playing game played in a third-person perspective with gameplay focusing on combat and exploration; it features elements similar to those found in other games developed by FromSoftware, such as the Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained that players start with a linear opening but eventually progress to freely explore the Lands Between, including its six main areas, as well as castles, fortresses, and catacombs scattered throughout the open world map. These main areas are interconnected through a central hub that players can access later in the game's progression-similar to Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls-and are explorable using the character's mount as the main mode of transport, although a fast travel system is an available option. Throughout the game, players encounter non-player characters (NPCs) and enemies alike, including the demigods who rule each main area and serves as the game's main bosses.
Combat in Elden Ring relies heavily on character-building elements found in previous Souls games and related intellectual properties, such as calculated and close-ranged melee-based combat with the use of skills, magic abilities, as well as blocking and dodging mechanics. Elden Ring introduces mounted combat and a stealth system, the latter being a core gameplay element from Sekiro; these features are expected to encourage players in strategizing their combat approach with each unique enemy they encounter. The game makes use of a player character stamina bar after being absent from Sekiro, although its overall influence over combat was reduced compared to previous FromSoftware games that utilized it. Unlike in Sekiro, resurrection mechanics after in-game death are not available; however, some elements were added to ensure players' progression within the game.
Miyazaki stated that the customization in Elden Ring would be richer, as players are able to discover different skills through their exploration of the map instead of unlocking skill trees as in Sekiro and differing from the pre-fixed weapon skills of FromSoftware's previous games. These skills are interchangeable with a large variety of weapons which, alongside equipment, magic abilities, and items players can craft using materials found within the world, can be used to customize the player character.[4][6] The game also features summoning mechanics, where players can summon a large variety of collectible spirits hidden throughout the game's world map, including previously defeated enemies, as allies to assist them in battle. Similar to the Souls series, the game's multiplayer allows other players to be summoned for cooperative play.

This was probably the only boss in the entire game that frustrated me for HOURS. But, without spoiling too much, I had stumbled into a "bad" ending and really wanted to undo it. There's a feeling you get when you take down a hard boss in a FROMSoft game that few other developers can replicate.

Same here! Malenia was easy compared to this fight 😅 she only took me 3 tries... this dragon frustrated me for days! Just finished the bastard 😏🤟 tho it was frustrating as can be... the fight was epic! And the boss animations were the best of the game for me 😄👌🏼
To use the needle you just need to be in the arena, you don’t have to kill it.
@@A_MF_Bird Yes, absolutely right. But killing the boss is an achievement, so it's worth doing anyway if you're going for platinum, which I eventually did.

This guy got me 5 times during my first playthrough. Dragon lighting claw got me all the time because you don't know when he's coming back around after the smash. Great tip on the frost. It helped a lot.
It took me two mins because I had the black blade and mimic tear it was so overpowered

He really does try his best to finish you off, this is the bos I've died the most to after getting their hp down to less than 10% it really feels like he's frantically trying to stop you from beating him

Hey man great video I realised why I was dying getting him rlly low, I kept facing him head on, rarely going behind him if ever. That left him able to try his big attacks rather than trying to get back face to face. After giving him the run around I got him easily (easily being an exaggeration)

He has a lot of health and does a lot of damage, but a seriously cool boss all the same
For anyone struggling with placidaddy, use Maliketh's blackblade +10, mimic tear +10 and +2 dragon crest talisman to melt him.
Your tips were really helpful for this fight! Im a first time souls player and after cheesing Malenia with maxed out mimic tear I decided to beat a boss without summons for the first time to really experience the intensity of the game. Plasidusax was tough tbh but after about 7 tries I finally beat him which also helped me in improving my fighting and boss reading skills in general. Really great video keep it up :)

its not the laser beams that gives me a hard time. its when he disapears when hes about to do the laser attack. i can never find him which ends up making me get hit
Try rolling, that's the only way to avoid his dive attacks. Maliketh's blackblade +10 and mimic tear +10 helps a lot in this fight

I hate Placidusax. You can't reach him from afar, he one-shots me with 50 vigor when I go near and everything I tried does a fraction of the usual damage 🤬
I've been using the black flame to great effect but I keep getting killed by the dragon lasers.
Use a tear that negates damage in your mixed physick, and use perfume bottles that negate damage when he does his laser bullshit. It saved me

I broke my game i went ng+1 and a site of grace was on the island as soon as i spawned in the world so i fast traveled there hoping to skip some stuff and it immediately puts me in his boss fight every time i die no site of grace no anything i just spawn right infeont of him

Min to get it and its bubble shower ability melts dragons especially this one
Great guide thanks...I think dragons and death rite birds are clunky boss fights , its hard to see what they are doing due to camera issues and their attacks can basically kill you in a couple hits and some attacks are 1 shot kills...this falls under the criticism of just being unfair and feels cumbersome instead of enjoyable. I love the game overall, but fights like this I have no desire to do in NG+, just not fun.
There’s a lot of fun enemies and bosses in this game but the dragons are not one of them. The dragons in Elden Ring suck

There is no stake of marika for all three bosses in farum azula. Godskin duo, Malikesh, placidusax.
I wanna say this is done intentionally, as Farum Azula is a place the exists outside of time and most major events here happened before Marika was alive. I could be wrong, but that's my basic understanding of it.

You can melt him with Maliketh's blackblade +10, mimic tear +10 and +2 dragon crest talisman. For armor, fingerprint set or maliketh armor is good. Around 40-45 vigor

I took him down in seconds trying whilst trying different weapons, I have a max malikeths blade and using destined death over and over took the fight less than 2 minutes

He has no healing in any of his moves, no. He does have a lot of health overall though.

The hardest thing about this dragon is his name tbh
For me just 2 tries. I used the black knife tiche ash, godslayer greatsword, and the lion greatbow with radahn's spear. I've barely beat that boss with very little hp left and used up all my hp flask.
This guy only beat me 2 times, mostly i died 8 times try to reaching the rest place
Now imagine it on my ng3 bow only...... it's frustrating but I have super light load dodges haha

The lazers can not be dodged I don’t care dude. It’s the ONLY hard thing about this boss. They made it relatively easy to get its health down but as SOON as I’m about to beat it the lazers come out and I get one tapped. Absolutely ridiculous
