Same here. I discovered grunge first- the punk side of it. (I find that grunge is either metal leaning or punk/noise leaning). After I got into Nirvana I got into “riot grrl” stuff or bands associated with it including grunge women bands like hole. Then I looked into what inspired them and how Pat smear played with Nirvana live…. Punk rock is actually pretty sick. You just have to find the right kind and the right kind of music inspired by it
This kind of Grunge or rock is under appreciated as punk. You tell a punk this is punk and they’d get upset. But it’s totally punk, if not a form of it. This type of alternative noise or grunge rock, whatever someone wants to call it, also introduced me to punk rock that was actually good.
