    I have a Mazda Miata, and its paddle shifters are VERY intuitive. They also offer up/down shifting on both sides of the wheel.

    • @FinnMcRiangabra
      @FinnMcRiangabra 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How fast do they apply and can you control exactly when the shift happens?
      I can heal-toe downshift a manual and have the power come on exactly when I want and how hard I want. How close is paddle shifting the automatic to a manual shift?
      ETA: fixed some garbled grammar.

    What do you think the "M + - " feature on the gear shift knob does? These are manual up-down shifting switches! All you're doing with paddle shifting on the steering wheel is moving the user interface. The paddle shift function at the gearshift knob comes built-in with many automatic trannies.

    Paddle shifters aren't necessarily in an automatic transmission car. Many are in a manual transmission car, but with the clutch automated with electronics and a hydraulic system. It's still a manual transmission and structurally different from an automatic transmission.

  • @NeedForSpeed.2004

    My car (2010 Lincoln MKZ) has a trans like this except it doesn’t have paddle shifters. Instead, u just shift with the gear lever like on a sequential trans in a rally car or GT1 racecar. My car also won’t let you downshift or upshift at certain points, but it only has the automatic downshifting. If you let it go to the redline, it’ll stay there. Also if you spin the wheels, it won’t let you upshift for a few seconds theoretically until it thinks you’ve gained traction. Downside of that is if you spin a little bit, and hit redline early, it won’t let you shift and you’ll just be awkwardly redlining for a bit at about 40mph in 1st until it lets u shift into 2nd & then you disappear. It also for some reason has a delay in the shifts.

      If you want more acceleration, you need to gear down because the engine would have a higher RPM. It’s just like riding a bike. When you ride a bike in higher gears, you struggle to accelerate. But when you gear down, you find yourself being able to pedal more often and accelerate faster.

    2:34 I get down shifting to a low gear at high speed is prevented in automatics but when putting your automatic at say 4th level while idle doesn't mean you are in 4th gear, you are still in 1st gear and you are telling your on board computer not to shift past 4th until damage might be caused due to red lining. At least that's how my car functions.

    When you slide over icy road need to reduce speed/use engine brake which paddle shifters should be used + or - and when you need more power for hilly area should be + or - and you need to pass the car on highway should be + or - ?

    • @lf2052
      @lf2052 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you want to slow down use downshifting or -
      and also if you want to climb up a steep hill and downshift or - again. it's like a bicycle it's easier to push the pedals in 2nd gear going up hill than 5th. vice versa when going down hill and you want more speed you would shift up or +
      basically you want to watch your rpms kinda like the speedometer with practice you can feel/hear enough to be able to know when to shift up or down.
