I’d recommend turning the read books on the unread shelves around until you can put them onto the main shelves. That way, you’re able to kind of track them as you go while also not having to reorganize your shelves every day.
i think keeping read and unread books apart from each other is the best system, because as you've mentioned if they're on the same shelves they can kind of blend together in your mind - you don't realize how many you have, and it's easier to just forget about books you have but haven't read. i keep all of my unread books on a three-tiered utility cart; if that fills up, i know it's time to go on a book buying ban until i've cleared up at LEAST one tier.
I love having all my read and unread books together! What I do is the unread ones i pull out about an inch or so. So I can still see how many I haven’t read but it’s also complete series together!
Suggestion: On the unread shelves, maybe turn the books you do read so they’re stacked horizontal? And keep the unread vertical? 😊 doesn’t look obvious but you’ll know which ones you’ve read or not visually
For your unread books, once you've read them you can put them on a top or bottom shelf in your unread bookcases and when you unhaul you can put them into your read book cases accordingly. In other words make it future Mel's problem 😂
Knowing you had to re-film this whole thing is just so crazy 🙃 but such a great video!! Also - I spy some of my absolute favorite books on your unread shelves so you definitely have some great reads coming up!! The Legend series and Warcross are amazing if you need something fast. Black Sun and Children of Blood and Bone are some of my favorite first books in series ever
You have to read both of Erin Morgensterns books. Reading her works seriously changed my life. Especially The Starless Sea- it's the perfect book for a person that loves reading, stories and books. Her writing style is so whimsicle and poetic and I can't wait to read more from her.
You beautiful woman are the reason I started reading again and I'm so grateful for you! I watch you almost every day and you make me smile. I'm so happy to be back into reading and finding joy in it again. I can't think you enough! Since I just started up again do you have any books I MUST read? :))))
If you are looking to continue reading the Discworld I would recommend you read them in semi-publication order. So basically as long as you don’t hop too far in publication order from book to book you should be fine. One of my personal favourites is Small Gods. It is a standalone in the Discworld series that you can read at any time and I would highly recommend it to you!!!
The unread tj Klune are so good I cried so hard during in the lives of puppets! A marvelous light I read for the first time last year and reread it already 4 times! The whole series is amazing
@@kathryncalderon TJ Klune lowkey makes me cry anytime I read any of his books, they write some very touching stories and it’ll sucker punch you right in the feelers.
Unread Sanderson, yep. Sounds about right. Love Heaven Officials Blessing, READ THAT. And I see Light of the Jedi on your shelf! I LOVE high republic, and LOTJ is one of the best ones! Idk if you are a giant Star Wars fan like I am, but you MUST READ IT. ❤️
Please give The Witcher series another try! I absolutely adore this saga, I understand that some short stories might be not for some ppl, I personally have some favs and less liked ones, but all the political intrigues, all the filozofical existential discourses that Geralt has, the drama, combat descriptions and overall action, but also of course the vibes, sometimes realy spooky and perfect for fall reading. I could literally count so many reasons why I'm absolutely OBSESSED with the witcher, but that being said - I have no clue how well it translated into english ver, bc I'm polish, as Andrzej Sapkowski is, so yeah. I know for sure that its so worth at least a try, also while short stories set you up for the later books, you dont have to read them, and for sure you dont have to read them necessarily before the main saga, you can read it afterwards, or even alongside if you wouldnt get too confused. Also I wanted to let you know that I adore your content! Love from Poland, Mel!
OMGGGG I'm literally in the middle of my heaven official's blessing reread. I'm currently in book 4 and I'm loving it even more (I didn't think it was possible). This story is one of my favorites of all time
Oooooh that legend special edition is so gorgeous! I have a separate bookshelf for all my unread books based on the color of the cover. When I finish, I put it in the respective area based on genre
I’m so happy to see so many of your books that I also own and/or read 🤩 If you get the chance, I highly recommend Tress of the Emerald sea. This was my first book form Sanderson and I loved it. I would die (not literally) for the special edition you have! I listened to the audiobook, and it was just great 🤗
Also… I think classics look cooler when they are different style of titles, but I will admit I like the regular penguin editions. The floppiness is perfection. I love your Dracula copy. I want to get the Wuthering Heights in that same barnes edition.
I keep my unread books in the top and bottom shelf. All my read books are organized by genre in the middle shelves. When I read and want to keep a book I immediately work it into my read shelves. Sometimes that means having to do some shuffling or mini unhauls.
A classic book to read is The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, the Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky translation, it's beautiful and funny! Also, A Young Doctor's Notebook by Mikhail Bulgakov is great fun to read.
A Marvellous Light was a 5 star for me and the whole trilogy is complete now so if you love it you can read it all. Dial A For Aunties was so good, very funny!
What you could do is get the tabs that people use for annotating and put a dark colored tab in the pages sticking up. I have all of my unread books tabbed up every 25 pages because that's how I like to read them which is where I got the idea from. Even if you only do one tab, you won't see it from a distance but when you walk up to the shelf you can see the tiny tab and know that's a book you need to read.
I gave Elle Kennedy a try last year and the deal is quite average like 3 stars, but then I read the 2nd book and it was better like 4 stars. I’m not sure about reading the rest of the series but I would love to know your takes on that.
Morgan is my Name by Sophie Keetch is one of my favorite books ever!!!! The writing is STUNNING and it’s Sophie’s debut, I don’t hear anyone talking about it
It’s so funny that you were talking about the struggle of deciding what to do with the newly read books on the unread shelves because I was literally thinking about this today as I just reorganized by read/unread 😂 I also don’t know what to do lol but I’m thinking I’ll turn the books page out until I have enough to fill up there own shelf 🤔
OK Discworld, I got you! The best ones in my opinion are 1. Going Postal 2. The Truth 3. The Last Continent I don't think you have to read any of Discworld in any order at all, they all make sense as stand alones.
I separate my tbr from my read books and I keep both sections in an alphabetical by author system. I also have a separate shelf where I put all of the books that I've read but don't have the time/energy to rearrange my shelves and fit them in. Then a few times a year I shift things around and fit them in with the rest. I find this helpful because I can also see my physical tbr shrinking in real time - keeping them on the unread shelves (even if they're turned around) might mess with your perception of things. As for books I think you should read asap: The Reading List Piranesi Tress of the Emerald Sea Shadow of the Gods The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi (I'm a US cover lover lol)
I recently read A Starless Sea and really enjoyed it. Read it when you're in the mood for epistolary fiction, experimental story structures, and symbolism-heavy dream logic (and if none of that sounds good, then it probably isn't the book for you). I've also enjoyed The Assassin's Apprentice, The Marvellous Light, The Black Sun, The Hacienda, and Thistlefoot.
Holi holi Mel ! I say turning the books on the unread shelves so you can see the progress, also there’s many books on that shelve I’m down to either read with you or would love to see you give them a try. I’ll just leave you some of them here. Those are The Hurricane Wars, Foul Lady Fortune, Six Crimson Cranes, The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea and The Deal. ❤
Fruits basket is soooo good. I avoided it for so long because the name is misleading. But then I watched the anime and LOVED IT. Everyone is traumatised tho 😂
I bring my books a bit more towards the front of my shelves (not a lot, don’t want the bookcase to become unstable) and push the read ones all the way to the back. I don’t have the energy to reorganise my shelves every couple of months so this works until I do a big overhaul every 2 years or so 😅
I read unwanted by Mia Sheridan and it was amazing! I’m super excited to read archers voice. Razor blade tears is AMAZING five stars! The hacienda is also sooooo good
