when browsing for books to read, i always look for book reviews. but today, it is all about bookish tech- which is why i bring you a 2024 kindle colorsoft review where i show you every step of the unboxing, setup, demo and the user experience. booktube and booktok have buzzed about the new kindle lineup… but did/will i enjoy them? i hope you guys enjoy this one and come out with more books to add to your TBR and some good book recommendations for 2024!

I bought a Kindle Paperwhite 11 gen earlier this year. I use it almost everyday. I pre ordered the Kindle colorsoft and got it earlier this month. I returned it a couple days ago. I rarely read comic books/graphic novels and was mainly excited for the colored book covers. But with the issues and (to me) the unknown of the who/what/when/where/why of the issues - it wasn’t worth it for me to keep it. I decided once the issues are resolved and maybe go on sale, then I’ll purchase again in the future.
@@BrittniB I did the same. I had the 11th gen PW SE sold it for way more than what Amazon was give me and the trade in. Bought the 12th gen PW SE first because of bad pricing (God was on my Side lol) but felt remorse cause I knew I wanted the Colorsoft orginally! I bought it and comparing it side by side it wasn’t there and realized if I wanted color I preferred my iPad mini 7 with blue light glasses on. The tech for this is not quite there yet. Hopefully they nail it next gen but for now enjoying my 12th gen PW SE that I got for $110 lol
@ Selling the gen 11 on your own was the best way. I was going to do the same if I had kept the colorsoft. I feel bad for those that trade in their old devices to get the colorsoft and unhappy with it.
Kobo has a better colour eReader.
LOVE how honest and clear and thoughtful your review is and how you define choices/decisions about this product. It is very much appreciated seeing such a true and genuine unboxing. But also, just your genuine personality in all of your videos is such a good vibe. You are a gem!!!!
I’m happy to report that my long-awaited Colorsoft (ordered in October) arrived a few days before Christmas, and has none of the issues. I’m absolutely loving it!
Got a Kindle Paperwhite last year and it was the best money ever spent. Got it on sale from Best Buy with their care program. Earlier this year I had two lines pop up across the screen, and simply exchanged them at my local Best Buy. Whole process took less than 5 minutes.
Colorsoft doesn’t seem like it’s for me in this first iteration. I don’t read graphic novels and from at least this video, the screen definitely looks more “reflective” than a Paperwhite. My favorite part of my Kindle now is that I can stare at it for HOURS and not get a headache. In the sunlight it legitimately looks like paper, even in dark mode. It’s completely matte. And when I’m laying in bed reading, I can drop the brightness so incredibly low that the light from it doesn’t even show up in the room (great for reading in hotel rooms if sharing with friends).
That price tag alone is bonkers!
I am using my paperwhite that I bought in 2015. It is just now slowing down enough for me to get a new one. I will not get a color Kindle. I do only read books.
I've seen some say the yellow is at the bottom and when they got an exchange the new one was elsewhere on their kindle. Sounds like a tech issue due to the warm light. Its meant to be worse at night, as your room gets darker.
What I'd like is a combined colour and annotation (writing) kindle like kobo can write on the page. Not the new kindle annotation one with scribe cos it just moves text around and inserts like a post it.
I take either a book or my kindle Fire everywhere I go! Restaurant, party, cookout, dmv…😂😂😂
Thanks for doing such a detailed comparison of graphic novels. You identified exactly what the difference is in displaying the reds and purples. But it’s still good. I just got the Paperwhite and I’m tempted to go for the Colorsoft.

this is such a great review, if I didn’t get my paperwhite last year I think I would’ve gotten the colorsoft! Especially seeing how less dramatic the “yellow” line at the bottom is as everyone on TikTok was talking about 😊
I just want to take a minute to appreciate how perfectly those glasses complement your complexion and face shape! I went 😮 and had to pause the video to tell you 😊
People have had things to complain about with this but I feel like if you have not had a kindle before, those differences don't matter. I am excited about mine that I ordered. I have a Kindle Paperwhite but I am still excited for this.

The color soft does have dark mode I just got mine and to tell you the truth I like it a lot it looks more like a paperback book. The dark mode is not where it used to be it's right when you drop down for the brightness and contrast it's right underneath. Just thought I'd let you know.
This is my first time watching your video and I loved it. I don't purchase luxury bags and I probably never will, or if I do, it will be pre-loved. But I do buy kislux occasionally of the styles that I really like. I truly appreciate your comparisons here, which have helped me make a decision about a couple for which I was on the fence. I'll be pulling the trigger now. Thanks for this and your humor.
I’ve been waiting for a Kindle with a color screen since I got my first Paperwhite back in 2018, so I’m super excited they finally made one and can’t wait to get it. 😍 I wanted to get the Kindle Colorsoft as soon as it came out (like I did with the Kobo Libra Colour) but it sold out before I could, so now I have to wait until winter holidays when next batch of units is set to come out (and I’m glad for that currently given the yellow band issue many specimens of the first batch had)….I can hardly contain myself. 🤩😅

I just bought for my birthday the Kindle Paperwhite 2024 and I am loving it. The Colorsoft looks great but since I am not a big graphic novel reader didn't think I was missing out until your video haha
@@glendaleereads I agree and I was gonna say it kind of doesn't even seem worth it because the colors are so much less than a phone I don't think it's worth it. I'd rather see the color on my phone or iPad if I'm reading something with all color than a dull
I got one on release day and had the yellow issue but it was quite severe on mine, I ordered another not realising it was a wide spread issue and had the same thing. I was willing to wait for a hopeful software fix but I was having other issues with the text and lighting and for the cost couldn’t justify keeping something with this many issues. I ended up returning both and getting the Paperwhite signature edition instead which I love. I’ve had no issues and the lighting and text is much more clear than the colorsoft. I’m glad I ended up returning it as there has been little communication from Amazon and there’s no telling when my others would have been fixed. I do think it has the potential to be great but for that price it shouldn’t have ever had these initial issues. I truly don’t understand how they didn’t think this would be an issue unless it was a complete lack of quality control 😅
I really enjoyed your review! I received a colorsoft right when they were released. I also agree that the yellow tint at the bottom was very minimal and did not bother me at all. Mine also came with about 50% charge. I had to charge it pretty quickly after I got it, though it charged in about 10 minutes. I read on it for 30 mins-2 hrs a day since and it is at about 30% now 3 weeks later which I would say is pretty awesome! I like some warmth on my pages because it is softer on my eyes, which is one reason for the warmth! For me, seeing the color covers, annotations, and the occasional graphic novel was worth it for me! With the annotations, I love that you can go and sort your annotations by color as well! 🫶🏻
I just bought the Kindle colorspft and I love it and I have a Paperwhite 2021. But then I've had every single Kindle Amazon made just because... anyway so far I love the colorsoft and I've only had it a day and I've compared it to my paperwhite. It's a softer reading experience and looks more like a paperback. I love it. Since I just got it there is no yellow line at the bottom none so that's a good thing. I think they might have got it right.
I 10000% agree with everything you said! Finally feel like I’m not the odd one out lol. I’m hoping that some of those issues get corrected with a software update, but ultimately I’m happy with mine as well! Glad to see your review was honest and you played devil’s advocate on all angles, which makes this a well rounded review 🎉

i understand why people were upset with what they received for the price tag, but i think the criticisms of the colorsoft got so out of the box that i think we lost sight of what a device like this is actually able to do and not! i love mine too and i’m waiting to see if the fixes are software related (hopefully they are hehe)

Love it! I previously bought an iPad mini for reading and journaling but it hurt my eyes. The kindle Paperwhite is much better for reading but I hate the black and white. May have to splurge on this in the future!!

I bought myself the Kobo Libra Colour the direct rival from this Kindle Colorsoft and I love it, the colors are vivid and read a comics on it is very pleasant. I subscribed to Kobo+ the same as Kindle Unlimited and the choice of book and audiobook are plentiful. Maybe one day I'll buy this Kindle. Maybe you can make a comparison between the Colorsoft and the Libra Colour? By the way, a new subscriber here 🙂

Highly recommend Monin Lavender syrup for matcha! I put 4 pumps in when I froth the matcha and then 1 pump in cream if I make cold foam. Oh my gosh it’s turned me away from coffee lol I’m so stoked about the colorsoft kindle. I’ve only had my $200 kindle paper white for 8 months though 😅
The Graphic Novels look so much better on the Kindle Version than on the iPhone, the colours on the iPhone screen are to bright and vibrant for my taste.
The colorsoft look amazing and it’s exciting that Amazon have decide to do this finally but I don’t think I’m gonna be upgrading for a long time because I’m too attached to my 11th paperwhite and it works perfectly fine. I think the only time i will think about is if my current kindle dies and doesn’t turn back on which won’t be for a long time 😅
Lovely review. I got the colorsoft as well and love it. I’ve had multiple kindles since they first came out in 2007 and this is exactly what I expected. As far as the yellow band, I feel like if I look really hard I can almost see it on mine but then sometimes I’m like am I imagining it? the screen on an e-reader is just so different from other screens people are used to looking at now part of me wonders if the expectations were off but it is pricey so everyone deserves to have a product they love when investing.

I have the paperwhite and oasis and my colorsoft is definitely the fastest and it never glitches
I have a kindle scribe so I wasn’t to inclined to purchase the kindle color reader. I saw some videos on the color readers I decided to go with the pocketbook ink pad 3 as it has the best color saturation compared to the others.

You can atleast on my current kindle turn off the refreshing of the page. I can't remember what it's called but the flash as you turn the page comes from it loading all the pixels again to help it be clearer

I never buy the first version of any electronic device. The first gen always has kinks and bugs but I'm sure the next release will be better
I have the kindle paperwhite 11th generation n ever since the kindle color soft came out my kindle had froze on mi a few times n it has glitches to were I had to restart it again but it only has happened twice like I don't wanna buy a new one 😂😂 cuz I only had my kindle for a year 😂😂 but I love ur honesty in this video bc I have seen so many videos of ppl returning there color soft and that it's not worth it so if I do get a new one i might get the 12th generation

So basically I need to be happy with my kindle e-reader and stfu 😂 I honestly don’t use my kindle enough to be obsessed with the new kindles 🙃 buuuut I love all the info nonetheless

IMO!! I think people are doing to much about the yellow lighting at the bottom, maybe their expectations were that this new kindle would be comparable to an iPad

The graphics actually looks super pleasant. Soft and nice like what an old style graphic newspaper used to be like (if I remember right cos I never got them haha ) it's seems right for an ebook

Do you have the refresh every page setting on?
Maybe the bluetone of the screen has an affect on the red tones?
There is something I am curious about: the kindle app on my phone has a setting that allows me to enlarge individual comic frames so they are easier to read - normally by a double tap on the screen. You then get a look at the page, can click through the panels, see the next page, the panels and so on. As far as I know this kindle should have that feature. But i can't picture it in my mind. And almost no one is showing it. Could you show this with a reading sample of a comic, maybe?

What does matcha taste like I've always wondered and is it sweet
It might sound weird but it tastes kind of grassy and green in the best way. Some tea brands also have flavoured matcha (bird & Blend if you are in the UK for example. They do ship worldwide but it might get expensive
Kindle seems to be one of the best readers, but since I use the online platform for ebooks of my library a lot, kindle can’t offer what I need. 😢
What program does your library use? My library uses Libby so I can able to send my library books to my kindle library

@@Shortandnerdyy really? I’m from Germany and when I researched e-readers, every website wrote that kindle is not supporting our library format. It’s called ‚onleihe‘.

I have the 10th generation kindle paperwhite and im thinking about upgrading my device. I'm hesitating with the kobo bc I could borrow books from my library. But i love kindle unlimited... dont know yet...

I have a quite old kindle paperwhite that I bought second hand, which I love but lacks a lot of the functionalities that the newer kindles have. So I decided to upgrade to a newer one for this Christmas. Originally i wanted to get the sage green paperwhite from last generation but then Amazon got the new release and I couldn’t find the old one anymore. I still wanted to get a new e-reader.
I was in between the paperwhite and the kobo libra colour. I really wanted to stick with the paperwhite and kindle, but honestly these new updates made me want to switch out for the kobo. I have seen a lot of negative reviews with the send to kindle and with the yellow band even for the paperwhite. And honestly for £30 more I could go for a coloured e-reader that I can write in as well. So unfortunately I’ll stop being a kindle girly but this new released seemed very rushed and a cash grab imo.
I have a kobo libra colour so didn't need the colour soft but I do love my kindle paperwhite too.
If you don't want the visible refresh every time you scroll, you can switch it off under home & library in the settings

For people who have never used anything Kindle : I used to use the Kindle app throughout high school and I think that worked wayyy better than this device as a whole seems to be doing. Like consumerism much? I don't think it's worth it
I definitely think ereaders are worth it for the battery life, lack of glare and dedicated readinf device without distractions

Its easier on the eyes than the ipad screen, my eyes start hurting after sometime when reading on a phone

The kindle fire isn’t e-ink. It’s lcd. This is color e-ink. So while the fire displays color it’s more akin to a tablet or iPad display wise.
