when i tell you i let out an audible gasp when you picked out a dark and drowning tide & welcome to the hyunam dong bookshop because im literally in the middle of reading both of them too 😂
First, THANK YOU for pronouncing the title of "Hyunam-dong" and its characters correctly. Second, I haven't finished it yet (I'm currently reading it now) and I'm not sure if the button thing is a real Korean saying, but I can say that it is DEFINITELY a mindset in Korean culture (especially among the older generation) that the ideal life direction is "top university, job with a big company, marriage, kids, retirement." And they push it HARD. Parents will spend thousands of dollars a year on cram schools and extra lessons for their kids in pursuit of this.
I always love these unhaulings, because I get a glimpse of things other people might be reading and occasionally pick up new books for my own self. I'm a very voracious reader, so its def a helping hand over having to dig through the kindle store myself. I picked up a couple of books off your selections here, so thank you for that!
Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop is one of my favourite books this year!!! I love it so much!!! Defenitly the right book at the right time for me!!!
So glad you enjoyed A Dark and Drowning Tide! I really enjoyed it when I got the arc and I know it got a lot of hype pre-release because of the cover but not heard anyone talk about it since release so thank you for talking about it!
That first book literally sounds like me. I'll be 25 in February, I still live with my parents, I don't know how to drive, and work retail. I am definitely in a "what am i doing with my life" crisis. I have though about owning my own shop but that comes with a lot of stress of it's own
A Dark and Drowning Tide is actually on my tbr, i baight it cuz of the cover recently. now im actually even more excited for it XD Ill have to put it on my january tbr
I am soooo glad I am not the person who has a shelf full of books that I haven’t gotten to. I have did the jar tbr thing too. For 2025 I don’t plan to buy any books. Let’s see how that works out 😁
@MelReads J.D. Evans! It's a Fantasy Romance with a lot of political intrigue! And I'd say the Fantasy and the Romance parts are well balanced😊 Side note: It's on KU.
you’d be surprised🤧🫨 i’ve read some books that tried really hard to be “deep and existential,” without having any real depth to them, and it makes the read unbeaaaarable
What can I say except... tried "A Dark and Drowning Tide" in Italian, just for the giggles (only copy in our libraries for now), and I HATE the translation, read the first chapter and got bored with 4 languages present in every. single. page. That's 3 too many... but I want to try the English version just to see if the problem persists or it's just our translations suck. I can accept like some words in another language for a reason, but seeing French, English, almost German or something like that, AND Italian, that was Babel's tower tbh 🐶🦮
yaas! i love everyone's take on "read it or unhaul it" (mainly b/c i desperately need to do it for my own books 💀💀). so excited for this one!
me tooooo!!! they’ve become some of my favorite videos to watch🏃🏻♀️
Honestly I prefer unhaul videos more than hauls because I want the true thoughts and opinions
