    Find the yarn here ( bamboo cotton ) www.yonkeymonkey.com/

    Oh my this is gorgeous! And ambitious 😁.
    My great aunt Grace was the youngest girl of 9 siblings and the only one to go to high school. For graduation the young ladies wore dressy gowns not robes. Like you would wear to a fancy party. Her family could not afford a store bought gown so her sister Ruth crocheted a beautiful gown for her. It was somewhat similar to this lovely gown. Grace graduated in 1933. I had a photo of it but somehow it was lost in a move.🙁😥
    She looked beautiful and proud.

    Wow, that's gorgeous! I do think that the first bit of the skirt before you ended would make a lovely sarong it would make a great wrap around for a bikini. Just an idea in case anyone didn't want to make the whole dress or ran out of yarn. It's so beautiful.

    I do a lot of filet crochet in size 20, 30 and smaller threads that require a few hundred chain to begin. I place a marker in every 50th chain. It’s easy to keep track of then and should you need to recount, you’re only recounting 50 or less.

    Beautiful dress not something I would make but it would be lovely for a period dress dance or a special occasion. You are an awesome instructor. You took the mystery out of the Solomon knot for me. Now I can actually make a scarf/ shawl That I have had the pattern for and did not make because the instructions were horrible.

    I have a crochet booklet from 1935 with evening dresses in it, but a different one! This is so cool! There’s a dress in my booklet that I’ve wanted to make for years… you may inspire me to finally attack it!
    I feel your pain with the slip situation… I ended up just having to sew my own for under lace dresses and such…

    Tough times. I think we’re living in tough times ourselves. Sometimes I feel sorry for my children. They have more than I did but there’s just something missing. You know what I mean?
    I loved the fashion then and in the 40s.
    You’d have to have some figure for this gown. Wow, so pretty.

      A lot you can work out from context. Patterns and yarn would be expensive and so was time. So if you look at the family content you get an idea of what she might have had access to. My own relatives I know made a lot of day to day clothing and work wear, household goods including doilies, they’d perhaps share some patterns among friends and through church. But I remember that printed patterns in any volume were somewhat out of reach and they would have had no where to wear an evening dress for sure! In later years they did subscribe to a knitting/crochet magazine and got patterns through that which would be shared, and was quite a thing as it was so new to them all. In old photos we can see the same pattern being used for multiple cardigans for example pre magazine, which must have been a standard one they knew. And then there would be something more fashionable when the magazine started.
      And of course, people didn’t used to have as many clothes so having as many patterns as we like to collect today would be bonkers.

    That is going to be gorgeous Corrina! And I hope that you'll model it for us when it's done. Wouldn't it be pretty in black or wine?!??!? So far, the pattern doesn't SEEM to be assuming you know what to do as much as the vintage bra or gloves patterns you made did! There is no way I can model it lol, Im a size 14 lg - extra lg, this patterns was not written for anyone bigger than about a size medium , people were just smaller then , but it was the great depression os it makes sense

    you can use a piece of thread in the locations you need to by draping around the parts that need to be changed so as to have approximate size in order to change the amount of stitches for the waist, bust and hips. this will be helpful to enlarge the pattern. it may take a bit of math for the count hopefully this will help with resizing to fit. love your channel.

    Hi I am hopefully be going to make this for my daughter probably following along with you. I'm a bit confused about the yarn I have looked at it and it's lovely but I'm not sure if it was you or on the site where you purchased the yarn I'm sure I have heard or seen something that said its 6ply cotton yarn what would the equivalent be in UK terms I've not heard of 6ply in UK we have 2, 3 and 4ply but I'm not sure what the equivalent would be. Also how much yarn in the end did it take I probably get the pattern but still follow your instructions thank u and I'm really enjoying your channel even when you say u mess up its hilarious and you make it so good and real because we all get it wrong at times it's how we deal with it and you bring laughter and fun to my day. You are doing a great job thank u again

    Too funny - I Just taught my husband's daughter the value of chaining extras when making a long chain.
    I wonder if I could make this in a year's time . . .. I always crochet a shawl for our annual vacation (our lumber company sends 350 or so people on a 5 day trip as a thank you annually). This year I took a friend instead of the hubby and we hit up some speakeasies so this style is on my brain at the moment. How fun would it be to have this for another speakeasy jaunt?!

    Hello I am new to your channel and I am loving this vintage dress. I was thinking 🤔 if I could us the crochet thread #10 0r #3? What would you suggest 🤔?

    • @justvintagecrochet
      @justvintagecrochet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you would be closer with the #10 , that may actually work out pretty well , the only diff is the knot st(s) may look thinner due to the lack of " fluffyness" , but regardless that #10 should still work out :)

    I love this project! I have watch all the parts over and over again, decided to try it so I came back and followed the link and ordered two pks of the yarn. I have gone ahead and worked few rows with scrap yarn so I can get familiar with the soloman knot stitch. So far Im pleased with the outcome, tommorrow though, I want to work a swach with sz. 10 thread just to see how that looks. I have a question, how can I adjust this pattern to have the waistline start just under the bust? Would I shorten the top part? Please tell me what you think because it would suit me better to have a higher back, belt under breast, kinda A line you know what I mean? Thank you for this channel and all the work you have put into it.❤❤

    • @justvintagecrochet
      @justvintagecrochet  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would most def shorten the top and work extra rows for the skirt as well if you still want it to be floor lenght! I think you vision of this sounds very lovly in my opinion :) and thank you

    I'm almost positive you miss read the beginning of the pattern so that you're doing a modified Solomon's knot I think you're supposed to form the first half knot do 2 sc into the beginning band then do another half and at the end of that half know make another half know before joining the second or rather third half knot to the band 2 half knots = one whole knot rdguardless I think this will turn n out stunning any way
