Welcome to my epic journey of crocheting my wedding dress in 6 weeks following an intricate Japanese pattern from the Keitodama summer 2019 issue!
This was a real ordeal that I recorded from Day 1 to Day 42, plus my big Chinese wedding and some extra clips from my stay in my hometown, Harbin, China. I only learned to crochet one year ago and this project was a huge step up with working in fingering gauge and deciphering Japanese patterns. It was also an emotional journey since I hadn't been back home for 4 years and got all excited and anxious about the trip. I was feeling a lot of pressure for doing the project perfectly so that I could make a great impression on my family and in-laws. In the end, al went well!

@@style_icon997 I can’t either but I really do appreciate the artistic talents of all Asian people. Back after I had only been married a few years and in the yard around our small first house I spent a lot of time trying to create a Japanese garden. I planted many of the recommended types of plants. I loved my Japanese Maple, my Mimosa tree, my wisteria, my Bonsai trimmed evergreens, my Ajuga ground cover, and my Chrysanthemums. I had a hidden strawberry bed and my little baby girl loved to go pick the fresh strawberries in her own back yard and bring them in to wash and eat. I hope you have a happy marriage and a happy life and many happy memories. I was married 43 years and my husband died from cancer at only 65 years old and I was only 58 when he died and I am now 78. Thank goodness I have my daughter and granddaughter who live with me because I have a nice piece of country ground and house with a horse in the back yard and a poodle and cat. So we are very happy. My son married his first wife who didn’t want any connection to families and she was a narcissist who eventually started abusing him so they divorced and he is now on wife number 2 and after 25 years on the first marriage she really changed the family ties because he believed her lies about us and that hurts because he should have known his mother and sister weren’t capable of the things she told him we did.
Don’t you have to worry about dye lot? I was a knitter and I never learned how to crochet but I love the pattern but I never mastered the art of crochet, I think it’s harder than knitting. But your dress design is so cute! Make sure you keep it in case you have a daughter who wants to wear it in the future. Wow it’s going to be hard to do the skirt. That is a tremendous amount of work. I wish you would have started sooner! You are making me nervous trying to get this much done!

Wonderful project! I love this sort of soft green/blue, it looks good on everyone. A friend crocheted her wedding dress (1978!) all semester. Full length, and unfortunately it grew in length, so she had to remove about a month's worth of work. But beautiful, as is yours.

Thank you! It took lots of courage to do so (and many arguments with my mom 😂 ), but in the end it was worth it! And mom was impressed!

My grandparents used to live within walking distance of the river and I remember walking along the river with my them after dinner every day when I was a child as part of their daily exercise. If I had this beautifull dress, I would want a miniblanket to sit on public bench, because those materials can snag the yarn? 🤔 often use my coat to sit on but still damage lot of skirts before I discovered that.

Honestly I’m not for wearing a pair of birkenstock with a beautiful dress, maybe wear ballet flats instead?? But your wedding, your choice! The dress is stunning!

Thank you! Nainai is very shy on camera. She kept saying “don’t put this footage in your show! They will unfollow you after seeing this old lady talking!” I had to reassure her many times that her talk would only attract more subscribers for me. You will get a lot of good out of your Birkenstock sandals. I like Chinese food but I don’t like Japanese food theirs is too plain, your style of cooking has more flavor. I could eat Chinese food everyday but it does take a lot of hard work.
