I gave up fishing the west arm in summer for the same reason. As you know the east arm is usually quieter as the feather brigade can't be bothered to walk abit further. Good to see some,albeit, small giltheads.
Summer of '76 - inside the arm was black with whitebait and small bream. Mackerel came and hammered the whitebait. We floatfished whitebait and a bite every time but not a fish. Arm was of course packed in those days. I will make a stills video of those days.

I used to fish the east arm all the time as a kid in the 1970's and the fishing was great and even then the west was always busier
