I did this with my BMW 1 Series 118d. I have a few main take aways if you are trying this at home. First of all thank you for this video. There are differences between my model and yours, but this still helped me a lot. This will take you a lot lot longer than the guy in the video. Took me two hours total, removal plus installation. I would not attempt this unless you have quite a bit patience and even then don't do it unless you have to. BMW are particularly hard to remove and install their consoles and dash. I removed the cigarette lighter and replaced it with a usb port. The cigarrette lighter is a bitch to get out and in the end i had to cut it out. On installation i found it easier to remove the two under section one on the glove box passenger side and one under the steer wheel. This is for when you are putting the main centre console in. Then go back and tighten them up after. Hope this helps someone!
I've used your video to open my centre console for me e87. Very good tutorial and I'm coming back to it to open my other e87. Solid videos. It's a shame your BMW is gone.
Very helpful! For an automatic transmission ...it took quit a bit to get it over the shifter and ebrake, I basically had to bend the whole thing to get it out. Do you have any information about removing the cup holders?
Hey Matt, I just found your channel and even though it's been a few years, find your videos super helpful. I'm planning to do a little resto work on my 135i's centre console. My cup holders look like sh*t and I'm debating between trying to re-coat them myself or spend big bucks on replacing the whole console. Do you happen to know if the cup holders are detachable from the console? Trying to sand, clean and coat them in situ seems like it would be really tricky. Thanks for your content!
did you ever figure out how to remove that piece without taking centre console out? I just have a storage compartment there. No ash tray/lighter or flip up lid so am hopinb it will be easier. Thanks!
Very nice, i need to replace 1 center console M trim, and having to remove the complete console just to replace 1 trim kills me. I already replace the full interior for the M Version, Seats, trims, doors, roof and pilars all black version, exterior as well, 17" rims, fenders, side skirts, exaust etc, full M conversion. The ultimate adventure is gona be the chrome original foot rest, and bixenon headligths.. And conecting the side bolsters from the front seats.
Hi, could you please help me with the part# of that foam insert from 11:40? The one under the shift boot and around the shift lever? I can't seem to find any info about it, can't find it on realoem, and my 118d is missing it. Thanks in advance!
I just attempted following this DIY last weekend. I also have just the Aux interface, on my 135i, and I got stuck on the very same thing. That connector is a B*tch to remove. There's no a clip and nothing to squeeze on to release it. I couldn't even get a pick tool on it. It's just held in by friction. I ended up carefully using needle nose pliers to pry it out of the socket. I barely avoided crushing the stupid thing, but did unfortunately break off a small piece or two. The wires/slots are fine so I can certainly re-use it, but I'm actually hunting for a replacement connector.
great video, my only question is below my shift boot I don't have the foam, and the trim surrounding the shift boot won't come off. Are they the same as you have and do i just been to give it more force?
Thank you for the video .. I have 116i and there a line shape bulb is occured upper side silver trim of passenger side because of heater. How could I fix this?
Can you tell me what radio you have fitted, is it the business or professional radio and does it accept USB interface to play say mp3s via a usb stick? I have a Business Stereo installed with only an AUX port under the armrest but would really like to retrofit a USB port.
Same problem here. Can only guess we have our handbrakes nicely adjusted up, lol. However, do not release it as suggested that only reduces the clearance. You have to seriously yank the handbrake hard!! Then twist and force the button though the hole. Not easy, but eventually I got it out.
Matter moo i've painted mines including central..advice mask all the slat with the knob for left right air control do not mask just the knob. Anyway that slat is almost black .... I've used spray black matt paint. By the way i have to send you a beer for this movie
Hi, very useful video. Colud you, please, check out and provide me with the OEM part number of the foam insert for shifter. I do not have such a part in my BMW E87 1 series and would like to instal it. I checked with BMW and this part - for no reason - is not available for my car model, although it is built exactly like yours as to the shifter area. Thank you.
"Useless cup holders"? How dare you. I only removed my centre console to replace it with a console that has those cup holders. The one that came with my car had this useless tray thing.
It was soo uncomfortable watching you use screwdrivers and plyers. Why didn't you use any plastic pry tools? They are soo cheap on ebay. Anyone doing this should invest in a set. Thanks for the video.
Been 6 years and still helping people🙌🏼wouldn’t have been able to do it without you
Just replaced my centre console, wouldn’t have even known where to start if it wasn’t for your video! Absolute hero. Thank you 👊🏻
happy to help!
9:20 silver trim around ash tray. Can it be removed without removing the whole console?

Is there no way to get that ashtray part out without removing the entire centre console?
This video was extremely helpful with clear and careful instructions. Thank you
Impressive! And most of it with just one hand 🤣
I've used your video to open my centre console for me e87. Very good tutorial and I'm coming back to it to open my other e87. Solid videos. It's a shame your BMW is gone.
Great video!! How do you remove the stick if it is an automatic transmission?
Great video, dude, thanks. And, props for disassembling your interior one-handed.
“Shut up phone” 😂 Make more! This video was helpful and funny 👌
Opened and fixed my ashtray thanks to this video
Very helpful! For an automatic transmission ...it took quit a bit to get it over the shifter and ebrake, I basically had to bend the whole thing to get it out. Do you have any information about removing the cup holders?
the cup holders themselves i believe were molded to my center console piece, I'm not sure how they are on an Auto transmission
Thankyou for this upload. You've saved me from destroying half my interior

Great vid! You have to rip the whole center console out to get to that front piece which surrounds the ashtray???
did you ever figure out how to remove that piece without taking centre console out? I just have a storage compartment there. No ash tray/lighter or flip up lid so am hopinb it will be easier. Thanks!
I can't believe they put screws on the underside of the ashtray 😡😡😡. I did this on my E92 years ago to wrap it and it was so much easier.
best tutorial plus that you did most of it with one hand
"and loose that in the depths of your seat forever" 😂 love the sarcasm ended up enjoying this more than it was helpful
Great video. I dropped a screw behind the ashtray now gotta attempt this Haha
Does the cup holders come out ?

Matter Moo Thanks! I'll try.
Followed your every move very helpful my BMW appreciate because I didn't break her off. I wish you did some on seat removal too
16:30 I've got just the cigarette lighter and just the aux connection, does anyone know how to remove that aux connection?

This is a really helpful video, thankyou!
Great work here extremely clear and therefore helpful. Keep up the good work..
Omg, thank you so much for this video! 🙌🏼
great video, my only question is below my shift boot I don't have the foam, and the trim surrounding the shift boot won't come off. Are they the same as you have and do i just been to give it more force?
Great video! i have a 13' DCT, my question is... the center console will be removed the same as the manual transmission or differently?
My bmw e88 doesn’t have that foam piece under the boot. Should I buy it? Does it make things smoother or something?
Nice video! where did you buy those pedals? Are they just glued on or what have you done?
Can you make a vid on how to remove the dashboard
Thank you for the video .. I have 116i and there a line shape bulb is occured upper side silver trim of passenger side because of heater. How could I fix this?
hi Matt great video thanks, when you have the interior trim out, can remove the cup holders ? i want paint them. thanks

Can you tell me what radio you have fitted, is it the business or professional radio and does it accept USB interface to play say mp3s via a usb stick? I have a Business Stereo installed with only an AUX port under the armrest but would really like to retrofit a USB port.

I can't get the centre over my hand break?!?!
put your foot on the brake and then release the handbrake putting it in the lowest position
Same problem here. Can only guess we have our handbrakes nicely adjusted up, lol. However, do not release it as suggested that only reduces the clearance. You have to seriously yank the handbrake hard!! Then twist and force the button though the hole. Not easy, but eventually I got it out.
My A.C. vents are a bit ugly, is it possible to remove them and paint it?
Matter moo All of them
Matter moo i've painted mines including central..advice mask all the slat with the knob for left right air control do not mask just the knob. Anyway that slat is almost black .... I've used spray black matt paint. By the way i have to send you a beer for this movie
