I'm sorry, but the path you're taking to the metal is pretty terrible. Too much backtracking. I think your best bet would be to take the path to the left of your district center that runs in front of the houses, then make a 90 degree turn and cut through those chestnut trees and carrots and make a straight line for that submerged little outcrop of land with the drowned trees on it, and then continue to the metal. I'm not sure, but I think stairs might actually reduce your max path length, so I'd probably build platforms across any elevation changes (which is why I'd head for that outcrop). I think you'd have a lot better chance of getting to that metal. You might even get all of it. Good luck!
While that would be the more direct way, that pool of water is like 5 tiles deep, and without bridges yet, would take a ton of resources to build that many platforms. That is, if we are talking about the same area which I believe we are. Once I get bridges (or lots more resources), definitely!
