- I've been working on an idea to make a t-shirt style yarn from a length of stretchy fabric and is very simple way to do super chunky yarn like a t-shirt yarn but much much longer, is perfect for big crochet or knitted projects. Such as pillow cases, scarf, rugs and giant knitting, coasters, blankets and much more. Learn how to make something beautiful using stretch fabric and just follow my tutorial Simple Steps

The sewing thing is brilliant and makes an ACTUAL one thread and not this zigzag cut rope that you get when you try to use sheets and not a t-shirt.

Just a suggestion. Fold the material in half away from you (with that leading edge allowance) so the folded side is closest to you. Then make your cuts starting and across the fold & cut across the far edge but stop short of that farthest seamline. This will allow you to only need to make the 'diagonal' cuts across that farthest seam. (If you run your hand 'into' the material allowing the untouched 'spine' to lay across to top of your arm from shoulder to wrist, you can scissor your diagonal cuts and be done.)

Help, I'm math challenged. I know it depends on how thick the strips are and how much fabric but could you make a guess on your experience of how many yards or feet of yarn would you get from one yard of stretch knit?
It is hard to say I will recomend make your own and calculate. From my video I did 3 balls from 1 metre of fabric , like on the picture
Hello. Thanks so much for the tutorial. Just have a couple of quick questions. How wide should I make my cuts for super chunky yarn (arm knitting)? Can you give an estimate as to how many shirts or yards of fabric I would need? And last but not least, do you have any suggestions as to where I could buy some (if cuts that big are impractical on a tee)?
Wouldn't the stitches just come undone where you've hand sewed the material together and then cut it into strips?

How come you don’t show when you put the cotton inside of it for beginners
There's no cotton stuffed inside of the yarn. The fabric strips are just pulled and stretched to give a rounded look.
How well should you hand stitch it? Like how big can the stitches be?

Don't hand stitch it, it's not going to stay. Use your sewing machine or serger!

It's not helpful that in the part you cut diagonally you're out of the range of the camera half the time

This video should’ve been about 9 minutes shorter. Nobody wants to watch you do EVERY. SINGLE. STEP… Slow, at that… you lose viewers like that. Use time lapse or show about 30 seconds of each step, because I was ready to pull my damn hair out.. and I barely have any. 🥴

I would of saved these fabric for a pillow or lining of a bag. Such a waste to cut it up.
I completely disagree. The resulting yarn is GORGEOUS, and will make a very special project.
velvet yarn is all the rage atm. and making it from velvet fabric is way cheaper, esp the chunky stuff. and it makes gorgeous things. i am starting a black pocket shawl for my 2.5 yo. it should be beautiful.
It's actually not a waste when super bulky yarn costs twice or even 3 times as much as a sheet of fabric 🤗. It's only a waste if it is then never used.
