Miyako knows the way to Carnegie Hall! So much of her life has been about practicing, learning, practicing, playing, practicing and performing. And practicing. Which is why she's such a guitar and piano maestro.
@@bobcieslinski This dedication to achieving perfection is something clearly apparent in many Japanese bands. Though their principle of Wabi-Sabi, something known widely in Japan, is a world view centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. @@tonygriffin_ Your perspective on the Japanese aesthetic sense is very intriguing. However, I'm not quite sure I see the connection between the Japanese worldview of wabi-sabi and their pursuit of perfection. Asami said something like: Every band needs to have Miyako, but only we have her. Guitar, piano, she composes most Lovebites songs, plays bass and even drumms a little bit, wrote some songs too-her talent is limitless. She is a priceless treasure.
Your comment: All is said and done. Period. Thank you so much, once more. 🙏 5:00 Here Miyako's _quiet_ section starts. As you know yourself, playing _quietly_ but also _touching_ is the most diffcult task on any instrument. Everybody can _hit notes loudly_ ; but only very few people can _play quietly_ *and* touch souls. And: Miyako uses _quiet_ playing and even _silence_ to emphasize the loudness which then follows. (6:01 and following) *That* proves masterclass. Miyako _lives_ there. Mistress on the piano, mistress of composing (also of _complex_ arrangements). Asami (Lovebites singer) once went, " _Every_ band should have a Miyako." 🥲 Said with humour, I personally find it absolutely _unfair_ towards many other Metal bands, that Lovebites have Miyako in their line-up. That puts many other bands in their places, I suppose. 😉 I am so glad of any world class musician (no matter which genre), putting all his/her indivual excellence in their compositions and performance, to prove, what _music in general_ is capable of.
Miyako has her own TH-cam channel and she shows her practice sessions for pieces she is working on. This insight is fascinating - I think you'd really like that aspect of her. It shows this isn't at all easy - why works so hard and it pays off. The EP of her piano interpretations is a joy to listen to - when it arrived I was like a kid in a candy store. Oh, and there's a new Lovebites live video on their channel - The Hammer Of Wrath - Live - from their forthcoming new DVD. 100% recommnded. Great reaction here for Miyako - she's truly a musical genius.
Miyako has so much self-discipline to practice and be the best. Most of us can't get anywhere near this. We don't have the time to dedicate to it. We are glad she does!
Such a great reaction. And yes, this was magnificent - the arrangement, Miyako's playing, her charisma. No doubt she's one of today's most consummate musicians - let's be grateful to have her in our lives.
I love that so many children in Japan (and other Asian countries) start so early on their instruments. Miyako, Jill of Unlucky Morpheus, and both Yuko (piano) and Beni (shamisen) from Wagakki Band all started young and are all incredible. I once showed clips of Miyako and Yuko each playing piano to a friend of mine, a longtime piano teacher, and she said both have a “silky ease” to their play styles and that both use their hands with equal proficiency and skillful positioning. What I wouldn’t give for those two to do a piano duet!
Miyako is classically trained pianist from age 3. She is 33 now so has been playing for 30 years. The baby grand she is playing was a gift from her parents when she was 13. She calls it her "little buddy!"

The most beautiful, elegant and tallented piano player I have ever seen. She just blows me away. Same on the guitar. Im fairly sure she and the rest of Love Bites are not from this world. ❤❤
In addition to the Baroque and Romantic era influences in Miyako's debut EP, there're a couple of tracks in there that also contain bebop and cool jazz vibes (reminiscent of Dave Brubeck). She's just a phenomenal composer, arranger and performer.
Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Eddie Van Halen are a few musicians that come to mind who doubled on piano / guitar. Respectfully, I don't think they're even in the same universe as Miyako and her abilities on both. I don't know of anyone today in any music genre who composes / plays heavy metal and for a side job, releases classical piano renditions of pretty much any rock / metal song or classical composer. And what's remarkable, she looks so relaxed / matter-of-fact doing it. Certainly once in a lifetime talent and I'm ecstatic to witness it! Great reaction Bob! I'm sure you got the memo, Lovebites released a new live video on their channel, from their March '23 show (1st live show in 2yrs!), featuring Fami live for the first time! Song is Hammer of Wrath and is blowing up on their channel. Safe to say the Goddess in White are back, firing on all cylinders, rejuvenated! And the smile/excitement Fami brings to the band, contagious and you can't help but feel so happy for all of them! A great live comeback performance! 😀🤘
She honored the original but this is a complete reworking of the song for the piano. She wants to show how Classical and Metal are in fact very related. The EP has six great metal songs again reworked for the piano. This women is insanely talented. Her brain isn't pushed enough writing, composing and arranging songs for LB, practicing guitar, practicing piano, practicing with the other beast, Midori...NO she needs to do an EP of metal songs in piano and also do a recital tour in Japan to show off that piano talent. Talk about a super mom, just how intimidating do you have to be(LOL). She is also sweet, kind, and modest despite that insane talent. LB as a band have insane talent and dedicated musicians to one another and their craft.
"Classical and Metal are in fact very related" this is a myth. They aren't related at all. people just love to think this way, idk if it makes them feel smart or whatever.
@@JacobsKrąnųg Please support your statement with arguments. Most Rock and by extension Metal are based either on Blues scales, or Classical ones, that seemed to be common knowledge... Now, not every Metal musician will use that for inspiration, or even acknowledge the roots going back in time, but they can't change history, and most classic Rock musicians are tightly connected to the Classical heritage. P. S.: I mean, hell, listen to this cover of "Eagle Fly Free" and hear how the performer neatly uncovered the fugue pattern under the verses! I am not sure Michi Weikath can discuss the fugue technique, BUT it is there, and the piano only adds transparency to highlight it!
As has been said many times, Classical music was simply an early form of Metal. Now we come full circle. And as for Miyako, she seems to be not of this world. Amazing.
I've listened to all the songs that came out on her piano cover EP that was released June 21, 2023. Mikako can play multiple instruments - piano, guitar, bass, drums but she says first she is a pianist. She started piano at age 3. She is a dedicated to her craft that's why she is so great. Here is the track listing “Battery” (Metallica) “Far Beyond The Sun” (Yngwie Malmsteen) “Eagle Fly Free” (Helloween) “The Loner” (Gary Moore) “Burn” (Deep Purple) “Addicted” (Lovebites)
Miyako is an amazing musician, just today I received the cd and I'm happy to support a talent like her, Fantastic Girl and it's a pleasure to hear her play, whether it's the piano or the guitar or whatever instrument she wants. Great reaction.
I think she's the greatest musician around today (at least within rock/metal), we know she is a master of guitar and piano....but she can play the bass and drums pretty good, she also have a pretty good singing voice. It wouldn't surprise if she could handle a lot of more instruments...I'm sure she can!
Watch “A Frozen Serenade” (again 🙂) and you’ll see that it looks like Miyako has hyper mobility in her little fingers because during the harmony with Midori, towards the latter end of the piece, her left “pinkie” looks almost hooked. Her arrangement here is beautiful. I’m not sure if you are familiar with the original, or with Lovebites excellent cover from “Awake Again from Abyss”, but there is no slow section, yet it’s probably my favourite section of her version. And finally, check out the cover of “Burn” where she manages to “pianise” vocals, vocal harmonies, a Hammond C3 organ solo and the Lord God Almighty, Ritchie Blackmore’s solo.
Have you ever listened to the original song by Helloween? It's a German metal band from the 80s/90s. Hearing it might be interesting because Lovebites often gets compared to them. In fact, Helloween is regarded as one of the first and most influential power metal bands and like Lovebites, they have a classical touch in their compositions.

@@bobcieslinski That is his goal. Two weeks ago, my wife and I along with my youngest daughter and granddaughter went to see him in his first summer stock musical. Afterwards all 5 of us went to NYC and saw some Broadway musicals (Kimberly Akimbo was really good and Parade is one of the best musicals I have ever seen). By luck, I was also able to see a Japanese band called Asterism in a small NYC club. They first started playing together when they were 11, 12 and 14. They are now 21, 22 and 24 and the 21 year old female guitarist is one of the best I have ever seen. As much as I love the playing of Midori and Miyako, she might be better than both of them. Hey Bob. I could see your intensity during this performance. Of course, Miakyo is classically trained and a virtuoso. Like your reaction with technical analysis. Enjoyed that! Have a great weekend.
As you mentioned about pianists with small hands Yuja Wang comes to mind. She is tiny but the power and speed in which she can play is quite astonishing. Then you have Khatia Buniatishvili who is about 6 feet tall and for the most part she plays very sedately but with such stunning artistry. Would love to see Khatia and Miyako work together.
Beautiful! ✨ Great pianist! (Another fantastic pianist from Japan is Hiromi. (Full name: Hiromi Uehara). Her way of playing is awesome!! She plays a lot of jazz but her classical skills are obvious. It is great!)
@@bobcieslinski Thank you! 🙂 Yes, please do, I think you will be amazed! 😊 I find her intriguing. For a live performance maybe start with her rendition of the well known ”I’ve got rhythm”. It shows both her classical and jazz skills and is filmed so you see her technique well. And that is mind-blowing! Be prepared for a lot of notes..! th-cam.com/video/CY5dTBhRxOA/w-d-xo.html Or have a look at this shorter video where she plays jazz and has an incredible piano solo! th-cam.com/video/PHi4tFz-F0g/w-d-xo.html And if you go to her YT-channel the One Minute Portraits are newer videos with interesting collabs with famous musicians, eg Avishai Cohen, Hadrian Feraud, Robert Trujillo and Simon Phillips.
Beautiful. I hear many popular melodies in this piece. You might be interested in pianist Gamazda and/or guitarist Gabriella 9797, both of whom mash the vocal melody and the accompaniment together for many well-known songs.
@@bobcieslinski Russian. th-cam.com/video/nV4wFBijcwQ/w-d-xo.html. Many covers. I’ve been to Russia and did a show with the Bolshoi in Toronto. An amazing country with some very bad tendencies.
She started learning piano at the age of three and achieved master level. If I remember correctly, she started playing the guitar at the age of 18. An incredible talent.
I was lucky enough to get ticket to Miyako's first piano recital. I'm really looking forward to her one-day-only recital in November. Now, my only dilemma is what to wear. She's a member of a heavy metal band, but this time, it's a classical music atmosphere for the recital. Should I go with a collared jacket, maybe? ✨🥰🤘
What did I just hear? What an amazing, talented, beautiful, gifted, and a whole truckload of other positive adjectives. Omnia(Offical)- Saltatio Vita is something I would like your reaction on
Miyako has said that she always knew that she wanted to be involved with music for her career path. So, in University she got a degree in Music Composition. I loved what you said about practice and dedication. As a guitarist I realize the importance of repetition and training your muscle memory. Miyako has gotten much more active on her YT Channel and is practicing for a full recital of Metal/Rock covers and straight up classical pieces. You might enjoy a new Miyako video, where she has started practicing to perform Liszt's super difficult La Campanella for that Recital. It's super interesting to see her gain proficiency as she practices the skills and techniques through repetition th-cam.com/video/-q7trbbUC14/w-d-xo.html&t 🤘🐺🤘
Great, educated and truthful reaction! You would be even more amazed if you listened the original HELLOWEEN anthem "Eagle Fly Free" (you never mentioned or compared to the original, so I assume you are not familiar with it). That glorious song is a true speed demon, and Miyako arranged it into THIS. Not to mention getting all the notes off the original - she did not skip even the solo section! - but right after the solo she inserts a breakdown where she really milks that melody for what it's worth.. and it is worth to be up there with the most beautiful! In one swoop, the genius girl shows off her amazing skills (not unequaled on the concert pianist level, but still jaw-dropping), the lush and ample piano sound - and the often overlooked fact that Hard rock and Metal musicians have written, and continue to write, some of the most touching, memorable, exceptional tunes under the Sun. What a service to the music to pinpoint that!
You talked about her being able to do an octave with one hand; I'm sure she can do a tenth without any trouble. Chopin is one of her favorite composers and nearly all of his music requires a person to be able to reach a tenth. In fact, Chopin once said that if a person cannot reach a tenth, they shouldn't be playing the piano. I wouldn't be surprised if he intentionally put tenths in his music so that not everyone can play his music.
Miyako is a once in a generation musician, we are fortunate to be here to witness her talent. Thanks for reacting to this one Bob. I assume that posting of this one was delayed , as Miyako's EP was released last month. Wait until you hear her arrangement of Battery by Metallica. No MV, it's audio only. A slow start (as was the Metallica version), but once it gets wound up it is a total mind wrench! Cheers. th-cam.com/video/Z6JXuzW9fPk/w-d-xo.html
I was never a fan of the original song, in fact I don’t believe I had ever heard it until the Lovebites cover. That being said, it’s a case where I enjoy and appreciate her composition but just a bit sad for me it is a song I don’t enjoy. However the quiet middle section was absolutely stunning!!
try the original song from Helloween then you can really appreciate her musical talent and maybe learn something about one of the most infuential power-metal bands.... as this is "just" a piano cover of a metal Song....
@@bobcieslinski i would recomend the album version for a first listening... their live versions are really good, but the album version shows the connection to Miyakos cover better...
Great review. Try Far Beyond the Sun Yngwie Malmsteen cover from the same album. It's an audio track but it is a great work. @@danw6048 that’s pretty cool. Maybe he will be on broadway or a touring company. A lady I taught with had a daughter go into music and she does their broadway in Germany.
I don't think you have reacted to Asterism. If you want to see three young people give an amazing instrumental performance (when they were only 16, 17 and 19) watch this live video of them playing a song called Dawn which they composed themselves - th-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/w-d-xo.html
@@danw6048 sounds like a cool trip. I’ll check them out thanks for the list. That’s saying something about that talent cause those are some pretty good ladies.
Behold, the delicate power of Miyako!❤😊
For sure.
Hey Bob. I could see your intensity during this performance. Of course, Miakyo is classically trained and a virtuoso. Like your reaction with technical analysis. Enjoyed that! Have a great weekend.
Thanks so much Chris! Man she is amazing. Have a great weeekend!
miyakos magic
Man she sure is. Such a huge talent.
As you mentioned about pianists with small hands Yuja Wang comes to mind. She is tiny but the power and speed in which she can play
is quite astonishing. Then you have Khatia Buniatishvili who is about 6 feet tall and for the most part she plays very sedately but with such
stunning artistry. Would love to see Khatia and Miyako work together.
That could be epic. Thanks.
Мияко.❤❤❤❤❤
Miyaco play piano.since 3 years old. I dream to.see miyaco in a.concert just she and piano. To me she is a.classic concertist
She really is a world class musician.
Beautiful! ✨ Great pianist!
(Another fantastic pianist from Japan is Hiromi. (Full name: Hiromi Uehara). Her way of playing is awesome!! She plays a lot of jazz but her classical skills are obvious. It is great!)
Hi Petra! It’s nice to hear from you! I’ll have to check her out. Miyako just nailed this. What an incredible musician.
@@bobcieslinski Thank you! 🙂
Yes, please do, I think you will be amazed! 😊 I find her intriguing. For a live performance maybe start with her rendition of the well known ”I’ve got rhythm”. It shows both her classical and jazz skills and is filmed so you see her technique well. And that is mind-blowing! Be prepared for a lot of notes..!

Or have a look at this shorter video where she plays jazz and has an incredible piano solo!
th-cam.com/video/PHi4tFz-F0g/w-d-xo.html
And if you go to her YT-channel the One Minute Portraits are newer videos with interesting collabs with famous musicians, eg Avishai Cohen, Hadrian Feraud, Robert Trujillo and Simon Phillips.
@@petraljungberg thanks Petra! I’ll check those out. They sound amazing!
Miyako ❤ The Golden Touch! ✨✨
Beautiful. I hear many popular melodies in this piece. You might be interested in pianist Gamazda and/or guitarist Gabriella 9797, both of whom mash the vocal melody and the accompaniment together for many well-known songs.
If you don't mind, I'd add pianist vkgoeswild to those artists.
That’s sounds awesome! If you get a chance send me a link. Thanks!
@@bobcieslinski Russian. th-cam.com/video/nV4wFBijcwQ/w-d-xo.html. Many covers. I’ve been to Russia and did a show with the Bolshoi in Toronto. An amazing country with some very bad tendencies.
@@bobcieslinski th-cam.com/video/DELXw6hLp80/w-d-xo.html California I think.
@@rexwave4624 got to thanks.
So beautifull.❤❤🤘
Both in looks and talent. That’s a deadly combo.
Miyako is one of the best musicians out there.
Agreed.
How can you master 2 instruments and also be a mother at 33?
I have no idea cause the time it takes for being a great Mom and a great musician is so much. I have so much respect for her.
She started learning piano at the age of three and achieved master level. If I remember correctly, she started playing the guitar at the age of 18. An incredible talent.
She’s a major talent. World class for sure.
Yes maybe depends. How lucky are you to have seen her and you are seeing her again.
herbpoints , maybe you should go in a white dress. lol
What did I just hear? What an amazing, talented, beautiful, gifted, and a whole truckload of other positive adjectives. Omnia(Offical)- Saltatio Vita is something I would like your reaction on
Thanks Ron! Can you send a link please thanks.
@@bobcieslinski Yes I can. th-cam.com/video/69OSmdm9G3w/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Patrick I’ll check it out. You can really tell she works harder than most people do.
Thanks
You talked about her being able to do an octave with one hand; I'm sure she can do a tenth without any trouble. Chopin is one of her favorite composers and nearly all of his music requires a person to be able to reach a tenth. In fact, Chopin once said that if a person cannot reach a tenth, they shouldn't be playing the piano. I wouldn't be surprised if he intentionally put tenths in his music so that not everyone can play his music.
Good one Ralph and I bet you are correct.
Thanks I’ll add that one to the list.
Thanks Guy for chiming in. It just blew my mind watching her play. Such a talent. She really showed it off.
Helloween cover!
🤘🏻🐺🤘🏻
try the original song from Helloween then you can really appreciate her musical talent and maybe learn something about one of the most infuential power-metal bands....
as this is "just" a piano cover of a metal Song....
Thanks I will.
@@bobcieslinski i would recomend the album version for a first listening... their live versions are really good, but the album version shows the connection to Miyakos cover better...
Great review. Try Far Beyond the Sun Yngwie Malmsteen cover from the same album. It's an audio track but it is a great work. Since the original composition sounds so much like classic, it is as if Malmsteen covered on guitar a classic piano etude done by Miyako. th-cam.com/video/3RzRNijnaKA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks I’ll check it out. It’s added to thr list.
