Thanks for showing a green rider, the chalkboard analogy was great too.

I loved this one. German is also a great teacher. Loved the erase the chalkboard...the stop and reset to relax. And just looking to where you want to go and your body will tell the horse where to go. Thank you for this.

My horse will go forward until I say “good boy “ so I’ve changed it to “Brav”. 😂

Excellent teaching from German. It's important to remember that for our horse's ancestors, it was better to be safe than wolf dinner.

Very helpful. Rider made it look easy though. I'm struggling with turns/circles. I feel like the horse, my chalkboard has too much written on it and I can't get my body to respond fast enough, lol.

I have a really backwards riding horse. (The black one in my photo) I know he can move better, it's a lot of work to post a trot on him. The moment he does move forward and up underneath himself it's easy.

Great video! My mare used to stop in the ring out of nowhere. Kicking did not work but taking a short break did. She no longer stops in the ring. Nice to see that we were on the right path. 😊 now she stops , when we are walking in hand in the park…head is high and she is alert. We have been matching steps, chatting and giving scratches. I have been waiting at the stop. I may, or not, get 1-2 steps and then she stops. This just continues. When we turn around to walk home, she does not stop and can be a little pushy. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks

I notice she gives him leg (taps him with her foot) every time she posts. Do you encourage that?

      Hi there,
You're right, you don't want to kick every stride! We're always working on something - even I have to focus on keeping my leg quiet. Dressage is hard!

I noticed her arms are straight out with no movement with the horses neck. I have an instructor who says this is too stiff and need to go with horses movement. Which is correct .

    • @AmeliaNewcombDressage

Yes the correct way is have following elbows which are bent. That being said we wanted to do this video with a student who is learning. It helps other amateurs relate when they see other people that may have the same riding issues as therm. :-)

    Hi Amelia & German
I just had this situation 2 days before you loading this video. My instructor said don't allow her to stop, give it a kick, come on give it a wipe . But I didn't. I heard my horse saying what are you doing? . What this wipe for? I just stopped & tapped on her neck and put my leg & she moved forward. Before reaching the same corner again I tried to figure out why did she stop. There were 3 horses standing at this corner. I though she may have been distracted &before reaching the same corner again l decided to walk a little far from the corner and she dildn't stop this time. I got off my horse & I wasn't sure if I did the right thing&2 days later I watched you video I said my God! Amelia was watching me😊. Thank you for this and all your videos that are really informal, helpful & inspiring.
