In Ghana the old students of all secondary schools give back to the school. The tradition is to take on a project in the school at your 20th or 25th anniversary. The group also hosts the speech day for their anniversary year. It's a big thing especially in the central region. It's called homecoming. We stay from Thursday to Sunday. You should attend a speech day in the central region and see old students on display.

Lilly as Ghanaians we see some of these as so basic that we overlook it's significance really. Thank you for letting us know it's not as normal as we perceive it to be. God bless you. Admission into these schools is by how well you perform in your BECE mainly and a few by protocol and so it does not really matter which rural area you are you can still gain admission. SHS are categorized ie A, B, C so basically your performance in the BECE determines where you fall. And mind you students in almost all categories do well it is the extra infrastructure that makes the difference and our various governments as well as old students are doing well to bridge the gab.

My dear Lily, one of the benefits of free education in Ghana is that it gives equal opportunities for children from poor homes and rich homes. In these schools u see children from poor families doing better than those from rich homes. The effect is that there is respect for each other because both the rich and poor are seen to be equally endowed. The credit of this policy of social engineering goes to DR KWAME NKRUMAH OF BLESSED MEMORY

A school is a school, is a school. Whilst it will be fair also shining the light on Nigerian schools just as she’s doing for those Ghanaian - based on her own chosen criteria - she can still do a comparison, if that’s her objective in a video. Positives & Negatives on either side can be highlighted, & there’s nothing impossible or “apples & oranges cf” about that.
IF one is uncomfortable with the praises heaped on any- & everything Ghanaian, take that as entirely her bias.

Yes. UG looks foreign especially the structure. If you look at Oxford and Cambridge, Legon has some of their structural arrangements. So is our Supreme Court and former House of Parliament. Tech is modern. The beauty of Legon is that, it’s still neat and beautiful.

Lily God bless u for a good job done.
One thing u should know about Ghanaians is that we do not place HIGH VALUE on money, don't get me wrong, is good to have money. U may be sitting very close to a billionaire in Ghana and u will never know bcos we place HIGH RESPECT to HUMANITY. We believe all MEN and WOMEN are the same and must be treated and respected EQUALLY. These are some of the things that do not make US channel our energy on who is the richer than the other. We would rather brag about our schools and trust me it has really helped us as a country, a typical example is the EVIDENCE u are showing us today through your Channel.
God bless u Lily for showcasing our Schools and Ghana (OUR MOTHERLAND) as a whole.

I am from Ghana and I attended Holy Child School, another girls school in Cape Coast, which is the “rivalry” of Wesley Girls and i write that lightly because one of my best friends is a past student of Wesley girls😂 Anyway, I just wanted to touch on the legacy project scheme. Most of the high schools, if not all, in Ghana have such schemes. My school in particular is every 25years I think and last year, the year group that was in charge of the project invested in solar energy for the school which was really awesome. Other schools also do that. That is one way the various high schools improve mainly. I can’t wait for my year group’s turn😊 Thank you Lily for this

Another thing Lilian i want u to note is the futility of comparing Ghanaian system and that of Nigeria. Right from the time of independence the first president chose to build a socialist society where all citizens were seen to be equal. While right vfrom the beginning of independence Nigeria chose the capitalist system. This should put to rest why Nigerians are agressive in business while Ghanaians are usually a little lay back when it comes to business.

Biggest bullshit to suggest that Dr Nkrumah domesticated his marauding tribes while Nigerian founding fathers chose to leave theirs untamed!
While l agree that every country is shaped by different sets of events , socialism and capitalism are not the reasons for different Ghanaian and Nigerian behavioural differences, it is a more complex situations than that simple label. That was out of whack in my opinion 😮

    • @harrietacquah2545

Actually Kwame Nkrumah introduced the communist system not socialist system but your comparison with Nigeria makes sense.

Has the two political systems shaped the countries In question? It’s laughable to suggest that Nigerian behaviour is shaped by capitalism while on the other hand Ghanaian demeanour was shaped by socialism. What do you think the hundreds of thousands of women, men in the markets , streets in Ghana are doing ? That is capitalism in full view! What is in Nigeria that shows they are capitalists? Go to Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan lndonessia or South Korea to understand the power of capitalism and how the tools of capitalism are used to build these countries that started from very low bases and at the same times as Ghana and Nigeria . Abrasive and loud behaviour or timid public demeanours have nothing to do with the political and social economic systems that created the nations .
