I used a 20 year old Finnish Army respirator and filter (unissued mask and filter in sealed foil) to spray solvent based auto paint in a spray booth. Not only did it prevent inhalation of paint particulates but also the solvent didn't get through! That said, in a survival situation with a NBC attack and your life depended on it, then I'd use kit that is as NEW as possible every time!

Well said mate. I do have a silly question though, do cartridge filter, say organic gas or acid gas, become ineffective after 1 month or ineffective? I use cartridge filter when I am doing DIY with chemicals but concentrations are never too high to worry about my life, I am slightly concerned about the chemicals used to soak the activated carbon/charcoal over time. Also being the newbie I am to this I am upset by the fact that 3M labels China's 6002CN filter yellow when it is a Acid Gas one, and not Organic Vapour one. I may have missed something there

Great explanation in your video bud. I can't believe that the guy who attacked you thought that filters don't ever expire. Unfortunately due to entropy everything in the universe has an expectation date. Tbh against simplistic gas attacks like chlorine or even some of the less complex chemical nerve agents 9/10 most gas masks will protect against them, I use a Finnish m61 gas mask and filter when I make chlorine gas for some experiments I do and it protects me perfectly. But against actual chemical agents that are specifically designed to kill people that are complex the filter will be eaten away and when you're Being exposed to gaseous agents that were invented after the filters it's not always going to protect you, some will erode the filters because people have tried to design gases that won't be stopped by a gas mask

Glad you find the videos helpful, I have an M50, it's a very good mask but not really good for civilians, the reason being it uses a filter only the US military has a large stock of, you really want 40mm for a prepping style mask as you can find the filters fairly easily. Unlike a mask that uses a unique filter.

Hey, mate. I think I had asked on another of your videos about what sort of filter would block cigarette smoke, as I have reactive airway disease and asthma, possibly COPD. If it wasn't you, forgive the mistaken identity, but it was mentioned that ABEKP43 filters would be best. I am having a hard time finding any source for this sort of filter. Are these a variation on a standard NATO 40mm-style filter? Or is ABEKP43 its own special type? I realize this is like going after a fly with a bazooka, but I cannot afford to take any chances, as secondhand smoke can lock my airway from direct exposure, and make me sick from 200 feet away. Thanks in advance, and cheerio.

    • @Weaponsandstuff93

I have seen on another of your videos that demonstrates varying levels of protection from different types of masks, and I wonder if the half-face respirator would do the job. However, I worry that it would not sufficiently block the particles from cigarette smoke and the fumes that accompany it.

Obviously not ideal. Got mailed these on Amazon and seller refuses to pay for the return shipping for the refund and I'd rather not foot that bill. Concern for expired particulate filters seems to be the rubber seals for fitting to the elastomeric mask, and maybe 'glue' between the layers of paper inside?

If they are tan Israeli filters they should be fine but they have been using the same filter design for 30 years so you have no guarantee of when they were made, Israeli filters come with a date stamp on them, so if they were out of date the seller may have peeled the sticker off.

I opened the filter and used it on the gas mask for like 2 minutes. I then stored it in my bug out bag. Will it still last a long time even though it was used for only a couple of minutes? Maybe if a North Korea attack comes, will the filter still have enough life? Thanks! Also, I love all of your videos! They were very amazing and informative!

    • @Weaponsandstuff93

Without knowing more about the filter I'm afraid I can't really answer that, as long as it's in an air tight bag that will slow down degradation.
You can always buy more filters anyway.
If a nuke goes off all proper gas mask filters will offer good protection from irradiated dust/fallout, but old filters will provide a lot less protection from chemical vapours.

Kind of a stupid question but can a recently expired filter (around a year of expiring) theoretically stop a virus like the one in China right now?

    • @Weaponsandstuff93

Yes assuming the viral particulates are larger than the holes in the particle filter.

I can't really do a video where there are not even expiration dates on certain filters.
Basically do you have a production date on the filter? All filters should have a production date, if so add 10 years or so to that date and that's your expiration date.
All the filters you mentioned have long since expired anyway.
