  • This device, called a radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG), powers satellites and space probes. It powered Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, as well as the Curiosity rover on Mars. It also powered the central station on the surface of the Moon that transmitted data to Earth during the Apollo 14 mission. RTGs can generate electricity for decades without refueling or maintenance. In this video I explain in detail how they work and where they’re used.
