      I did my dissertation on Prader-Willi Syndrome. Personally I don't see it. For me it seems he may be in bed too early (I don't know the time he sleeps) that may explain why he's up so early! All kids wake up hungry and they will ALWAYS go for the goodies they know are in the cupboards. He was asked if he wanted breakfast and he was full on the junk he'd snuck. There may be an issue such as sleep disorders (sometimes comorbid with ADHD or ASD) but it's very much a behaviour issue in my (not professional, but educated in eating and childhood disorders) opinion.

      My daughter has Binge Eating Disorder. When she lived with me (she’s an adult now),I never bought biscuits,crisps,cakes,etc.. She would eat raw bacon,frozen chips,salad,sausages,rice,noodles,yoghurts,meats-all sorts. No matter how late she was up,she’d wake up in the early hours to binge. I bought locks for the cabinets,fridge,and freezer. She broke them off. (They were very durable and required keys to unlock them-which I wore on a chain around my neck.) When she visits me,I can guarantee that she will steal food and hide the containers. The doctors say she has no control,and it will take a long time to get her to have a healthier relationship with food.

I'm not saying that these children are abused, I'm saying that those parents need to evaluate WHY their little one is so hungry.

    This kinda made me feel sad. I’m struggling with anorexia atm and I’m not sure whether or not this kid is struggling with an eating disorder because I’m not a doctor, but calling a kid naughty for sneaking food just creates a halo of shame and guilt around this. There’s probably a reason he’s over-indulging. They should get him into therapy. It’s likely he’ll do this again, he’ll probably get better at sneaking it or getting food somewhere else and it’ll really turn into an issue. Odd food habits indicate more going on.

    • @pandypop1
      @pandypop1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Are you from America? I ask because many Americans seem to think everything needs "therapy".
      I reckon that he goes to sleep early and wakes early, it makes sense that he would be hungry and seeking food, but mum and dad are too tired and possibly too lazy to get up and see to his breakfast, so he takes the innitiative and goes for what he can get into.
      They should leave a fruit bowl sitting around and healthy snacks since they can't be arsed.

    • @chloeravs
      @chloeravs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pandypop1 agreed they should try that. But from the looks of it there’s more going on. They should for sure be providing more healthy snacks but they don’t seem negligent to me. Also therapy is very common here for good reason. People go to therapy even if they don’t have mental illness and just need someone to talk to about life. Sneaking food is something that should be looked into. Maybe a therapist can help that child better express his needs and what he needs from his parents so they don’t consider him “naughty.” My point wasn’t even that he was struggling right now, but how the parents handle it will cause him issues down the road. Negative reinforcement is not helpful here.

      It’s the fact that kitchen scissors are usually sharp and for all we know those scissors are for cooking not just to open crisps and paper instead they might be used for meat. One slip can seriously hurt the kid and the little one might learn to steal the scissors and play with them.

    • @duxghost3985
      @duxghost3985 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Allen Tax no one should even think about bringing a child into the world without knowing what they are doing and some people just shouldn't have kids, if you don't have enough patience to deal with your child without screaming at them every second than you should either work on your patience or not have kids.
      It's like parents are too proud to ask for help so they resort to arguing and violence.

      People go 'no contact' with people who are toxic. If these parents have gone no contact with their own parents, it's because their parents were toxic. This can and often does include abuse and/or neglect. So you tell me why the parents of today aren't getting any parenting advice from their abusers.

    To everyone saying "stop buying junk food", as a former bulimic I can categorically tell you that that is NOT the answer. Yes it may help the situation but it will likely worsen it, because he will still have those cravings and instead will get the food elsewhere. By the time he gets to a shop he will go crazy and buy more food than what was in the house.

    Removing the junk food from the house and not buying anymore it is a quick solution, but i do believe he needs more than that, a therapist would help him think why he searches for food confort and what does it mean. My parents did the "remove the junk food" thing at home when i was a kid, but as grew older and got my own money i would sneak eat, they did prevent the binge but it didn't help me to understand it and try to work on the causes not the consequences. Now i'm 24 and still struggle, eating disorder is a constant battle.

    There are so many easy ways to solve this problem... lazy parents won't solve simple problem. When my kids got to an older age where they were capable of getting a snack on their own, a drink on their own etc... I would set out certain things for mornings. Bananas, Berries, Rice cakes, applesauce etc.. Cereal I would pour in a bowl, cover it and then pour a measured cup of milk into a smaller cup ( to prevent spilling) cover and place in the fridge. Not only are they eating healthy breakfast items, but they are also learning simple life skills. Luckily I can see the kitchen from my room.

      ironically, trying to prevent a 15 year old from his addiction, whatever it is, is far far far too late, and will only cause his eating disorder to get worse. This is Science and _not_ opinion. But it would get alot of hits on TH-cam and could compete with The Cardasians (I've only ever heard of them, because I have enough entertainment in my own life to suffer from). Yep!
      Oh, and I'll addendum this: the advice on seeking _professional_, qualified, experienced medical help is more appropriate than playing mind games with a kid you raised. It's more than just MHO.
      Sometimes even doing nothing is better than deliberately creating conflicts with your children.
      But he's yours, and you can do whatever you want with him, until he reaches the Age Of Majority, which isn't too many years into _his_ future. "It takes a village to raise a child", and only a parent to ruin one.
      You obviously haven't been successful so far, so I wouldn't gamble on the outcomes of your parenting skills.
      No offense, but please don't your psychology theories over those who know more, know better, and have the certs. and the references, and the citations that you as a parent obviously lack.
      Being truthful never made me rich, but at least I don't have a 300 lbs 15 year old to further abuse. And yes; kuh-ching, abuse is nearly 100% related to addictions. In a statistically meaningful way.
